So this is my take on this set up and why it wont work. The main reason being that the drone itself is giving off the wifi signal not the controller so unless this booster is connected to the drone in the air it won't amplify its signal, basically when you connect the drone to this repeater and leave it right next to your phone it's only going to get the same signal as your phone because its connected from the drone to the repeater to your phone . But if you was to leave your set up there and take your phone back another 300 meters you'll get the extra range this way.. if the controller gave off the wifi signal then a repeater would boost the signal the way your trying in video

I have a great range with my Holy Stone HS700, but the camera range is poor, I lose picture usually around 120m. I was wondering if there was a way to extend it's range. Since the camera uses 2.4g WiFi to the phone and the controller uses 5ghz to the quadcopter separate, this just might work.
I tried this with my Holy Stone but I am also having issues connecting to unsecured networks. I have an iPhone so the android links to get to the old version are not working. Does anyone have an iOS link?
So in case of hacking or signal interference in flight how difficult is it to lock one of these up and set an auto pilot to original starting point.....
Hi would this work for my action camera? Am looking to put my gitup git 2 camera on my dji phantom 2 and wondering if the wifi extender would connect to the wifi on the camera then connect my phone for the feed.
It should. But even if it does, the range would still likely be very short. The WiFi on action cameras is mainly for framing and taking selfie shots. As such, range is normally only 10s of feet. You might be able to double the range of the camera. But double would still be short and laggy for aerial video purposes.
thanks , I already crashed it today . I lost one propeller :) later on when I read ur reply , i realised the action cam wifi was interfering with the mi drone controller. It just slowly floated away . I had to do emergency shutdown
All links are dead now. I'm looking to do some serious tinkering with my Snaptain SP500, I'm going to completely replace the antennas on the quad and remote and I also plan on boosting signal with one of these repeaters. Do you have any suggestions on which one I shpuld biy in 2022 I imagine this tech has improved etc. Any advice would be awesome. Liked 👍 and already subcribed.
This doesn't work with all drones. I tried connecting it to the HOLYSTONE HS165 but it refuses to connect. I keeps saying, "Public Networks are not supported, connect to your home network"
I cann't connect Xiaomi repeater to SG 906 Pro. "Public networks aren't supported. Connect to your home network" message appears in MiHome when trying to link the repeater and the drone...
As long as your drone is a 2.4G like most current drones right now, Mi Repeater will work. Although some Latest drones right now especially the GPS versions has a "5Ghz instead of a conventional 2.4Ghz. You cannot use Mi with those 5G drones.
Unfortunately, that is the only model that includes a signal amplifier in addition to the repeater. But it's still available on ebay from China (may take a month to get to you) www.ebay.com/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Amplifier-Smart-WLAN-USB-WIFI-Repeater-1-Extender-Signal-Booster-300M/393063331677
Hi Quadcopter 101, thank you for all the great quadcopter reviews and tutorials. I bought the Xiaomi range extender and it does really offer some great range however I have one problem when I use follow me the quad doesn't really point in the right direction. Usually it points slight to my left, I am still in the frame but at the edge. Did you notice something similar?
As the drone uses your phone's GPS to tell it where you're at, there's going to be some error between where the drone/phone's understanding of your position for follow me. To reduce this error and move yourself center in the shot, increase the distance between the drone and your position.
Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it. The weird thing is that if I connect directly to the drone it always gets my position right but If I connect with the repeater it always gets my position wrong. I repeated the test few times just to make sure is not coincidence. And as you said the drone uses the GPS coordinates from the phone so it shouldn't matter if I connect to the repeater or not, this is why it is weird.,
Unfortunately no. If you want to switch to another drone, you'll need to use the Mi Home app again. Another option is to purchase additional repeaters for each drone. They are inexpensive.
Hi Quadcopter 101, can the repeater be used in same way with Runcam2 connection a tablet/phone? I want to fit my Runcam 2 to my Hubsan H501S and want to extend the range of the WIFI connection between the Runcam 2 and the tablet/phone so I can control the Runcam 2 from the tablet/phone etc.
The problem is that the controller of the H501S is also transmitting on 2.4Ghz, and thus creating interference. It should work better than using the Runcam2's WiFi alone, but you won't get the distance seen in this video due to the interference from the controller.
Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Do you know expected range of the standard WIFI connection between the Runcam 2 and a phone/tablet device without any repeater? As I have not actually fitted the Runcam yet to the H501S I have not been able to test.
Most WiFi cameras use the WiFi connection for remotely setting up parameters of the camera, framing the shot, or clicking the shutter. As such, their range is usually very short. FPV preformance is usually very poor, with maximum range being about 20 meters.

Tried to set up extender with my Eachine e58 and it wiped out my e58's WiFi output! I had it when I used Mainland China and set it up as you showed. I changed to US server and signed in then the indicator stayed yellow after 4-5 resets. I turned the extender off and tried to just connect normally and now my e58 isn't broadcasting it's wifi ID. Any suggestions? Thanks, Rocky
Quadcopter 101 I think the extender may have caused my SSID to be or become hidden. I don't have it written down anywhere, so I was wondering if I replaced the FPV module, (which includes WiFi TX, SD card reader, and camera), will that make the new SSID visible? The module is $20 from Banggood. Thanks, again. Rocky
I really can't envision the extender doing such as it merely connects to the WiFi the same way your phone would. I really think that it has something to do with your phone. Do you have antoher phone or tablet that you could try connecting to the e58?
Quadcopter 101 Yea, I set it up on my Note 8. I went to settings after 1 connect and switched to US server. Followed same steps EXCEPT there was no selection of models like the Chinese version had. When set up didn't work, I just disconnected the extender and looked for my e58. Nothing. Got out my old trusty Note 3 running a. Note 5 Lollipop ROM. Again, no e58. Turned everything off and started fresh, this time using my iPad mini 4. Still, no e58. Now, back to my question, will that replacement board, (new), broadcast the new SSID or is that generated by the main flight control board? Thanks, Rocky PS, I am leaving that extender alone for a while.
That I don't know. By the way, when using the Mi Home app, select that you're in mainland China (not US). That way the Mi WiFi extenders show up in the menu. You may need to reinstall the app to enable the China selection to be available.

My Drone's wifi has no password so MI Repeater wonnt connect to it... What can I do? Is there any config that I can set to connect to routers without pass?
First off, recommend viewing my video showing how to set up the repeater ruclips.net/video/nvK68qrv33U/видео.html And secondly, you will need to download an older version of the Mi Home app. This older version does not require password for the WiFi. It is the same version used in the setup video, and may be downloaded here for Android www.androidapksfree.com/apk/mihome-5-1-1-apk/
@@erickbooster1 just like the answer I got. If you find an older version of MI home app you wont need a password. I could connect ir. The problem was that de wifi signal from the drone was too low. So the repeater couldn't do much.
I downloaded the older version of the Mi Home app here (for Android only) www.androidapksfree.com/devapk/xiaomi-inc/mihome/ Unfortunately the older version is not available for iOS.
I wish I could send you a screen shot. The repeater is added to the Mi app. The blue light is on. The Mi app say's 0 connected devices. I turn on the Flytec and I don't see any changes any where when searching the Mi app. I don't see any place to find or add the Flytec, not even manually. Obviously I'm not seeing or missing something. This isn't easy or simple to set up. I do have more drones I want to use the repeater with.
Since you have a blue light, the repeater is connected to the drone (hopefully you connected it to your drone and not your home WiFi signal). You are done with the Mi app unless you want to connect to a different quadcopter (in that case, you'd repeat the Mi Home connections steps). Since you got to this point, 1) turn on your drone and place it on the ground. 2) Wait about five seconds, then power up your repeater. 3) Wait for it to automatically connect to the drone (shows blue light once connected). 4) Once you get a blue light, open your phone's settings and look for your drone and your repeater's WiFi signal. Your repeater signal should have the same name as the drone signal, but with the word "Plus" after it. Connect to the repeater. 5) Now open your app, and go flying.
It might be working and I'm not aware that it is. This is what I'm doing. I plug the repeater into a power bank. The repeater light turns blue after a few seconds. I open the Mi app, there is a picture of the repeater with a green check mark on it and just below it say's my signal source name ( my house router ) with waves coming from that name. Then I go to the phone wifi, turn on Flytec Quad. After the signal is locked I go to the Flytec app, turn it on and hit play. The quads camera is showing a live picture. So am I now going thru the repeater or just the Flytec wifi and app signal? I don't know how to tell the difference. Thank you for all your help as I know this takes your time to. Also please don't change the way you do your reviews. A lot of people don't explain the transmitter functions like you do. You are my first to go to person for Quad reviews.
I opened the phone settings to wifi, there is no repeater wifi signal only the Flytec. Going back to the Mi app the signal source say's my home routers name. This is what I said before. Every time I open the Mi app my home router is the source. How do I change that? Remember my phone screen doesn't show anything close to what yours does.
Maybe used on eBay? Unfortunately Xiaomi stopped making these years ago. But I don't recommend that you buy this anymore. Xiaomi has changed their setup app so it no longer works with this repeater.
It's very similar in terms of power output. But the original is easier to use as the X-Hubsan app automatically recognizes it (no need for initial setup with Mi Home app).
This was a Hubsan H501A model. There were quite a few versions of the H501, and they all looked similar. But the H501A was different than the others, in that it was controlled via WiFi through your phone instead of a normal RC controller.
Thanks to your help I think I might buy one of these ,I have a nice power bank ,and thank you for getting back to me,I enjoy your videos very much ,and I learn about my new hobbies you been very helpful to a lot of your fans
OK thanks, and do you know of a Bluetooth or wired hand controller that can be used with the phone app or a way to use 2 phones (1 for control the other for video) as I would like the control and video separate but both going through the repeater
Ya, the repeater works only with the wifi app....the controller is 2.4 ghz but not wifi compatible....BUT you can connect more than 1 wifi device at a time! Watch on an ipad and control with a phone.....
Craig Diamond thanks, this is great! And what about the controller? Maybe there is some drone apps that we can use with a bluetooth controller connected to the phone? It would be nice too.
I'll try this next time with my 200mW router or my 1000mW CPE for long range flying rather than this 50mW repeater. Might make a good base station, flying the copter around while from the comfort of my bed.
Hubsan H501A. It's a very capable drone. ruclips.net/video/Il97-cPIrlM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/VUE7ur36qp4/видео.html You can find it here, bundled with the HT011A long range controller amzn.to/2IEEQqB
Most H501's are analog. Except for the one in this video. This was a H501A, digital WiFi drone. It and the H501M were the only H501s that used WiFi, and an app. The idea was to give them waypoints capability.
It should work the same as with the H501a, as they're both 2.4ghz WiFi drones. However, you may need to Google search for an older version of the Mi Home app, as the latest version requires a password for the WiFi signal.
I managed to figure out how to make it work. It was my own paranoia of those app permissions... I turned them off. The app permissions are ridiculous. After I reluctantly gave them to the app, it worked... sort of. The connection timed out, but it still connected to my Yi 4k. So all is well. Hopefully. :)
Yep, the app is designed for remote controlling Mi devices through their home servers. However, the Mi repeater does not really need such control. So when the connection times out (after you get the blue light), just hit cancel and close the app. Unplug the repeater from the power supply, and it should still remember your quadcopter's WiFi signal for when you're out in the field. Remember, when you're ready to fly you connect to the repeater signal (has the word plus after its name), and not the quadcopter. The repeater will automatically connect to the quadcopter.

This one returns to home and lands at takeoff point on lost signal.
But double would still be short and laggy for aerial video purposes.
did u tried the wi fi repeater with the action camera . did it work - how much range ?
Dont do it i learnt the hard way and near lost my phantom. The wifi interferes with the 2.4ghz signal and will cause the phantom to fly away
thanks , I already crashed it today . I lost one propeller :) later on when I read ur reply , i realised the action cam wifi was interfering with the mi drone controller. It just slowly floated away . I had to do emergency shutdown
Do you know if this will work with the Hubsan 507A?
Will it work with the sg900 drone
you open your app then something flashes on and off fast. I can't read it. It looks like the Mi icon with words under it that I can't read.
Is the interference between the remote and extender really that bad? I like to use a separate remote.
Any suggestion for transmitter control
pls tutor me for 1808 falcon 4k connector to it ...
Liked 👍 and already subcribed.
hi will this extend range of fpv on sg 108 drone.? cheers
No. It will not. The SG108 uses 5Ghz WiFi. This repeater amplifier is only for 2.4Ghz WiFi.
Does that work for hubsan zino 1
This doesn't work with all drones. I tried connecting it to the HOLYSTONE HS165 but it refuses to connect. I keeps saying, "Public Networks are not supported, connect to your home network"
Try the older version of the app shown in this video here www.androidapksfree.com/devapk/xiaomi-inc/mihome/
Would this work with an SG 906 Pro ?? thanking you skipper
I cann't connect Xiaomi repeater to SG 906 Pro. "Public networks aren't supported. Connect to your home network" message appears in MiHome when trying to link the repeater and the drone...
Do you think the same method will work with the eachine e58? I have only been getting 30m of range and then losing control. Thanks and great video
Not sure. I've found that some of the Eachine's and JJRC drones do not work with this.
Quadcopter 101 ok I’ll give it a try anyway
@@Quadcopter101 Check out this video. It uses the E58 with the same wifi repeater.
Would this work for the AR Drone 2.0? Thanks.
Yes it should.
Quadcopter 101 Thank you.
Quadcopter 101 Because it says it can only support WPA?
@@alexbarkey7032 Here you go ruclips.net/video/_KsxF59-yqc/видео.html
As long as your drone is a 2.4G like most current drones right now, Mi Repeater will work. Although some Latest drones right now especially the GPS versions has a "5Ghz instead of a conventional 2.4Ghz. You cannot use Mi with those 5G drones.
Sir 101, wondering if this will work a dji spark? Sucks to get 70m and lose signal. Thanks
Ahhh you gave me an idea for another video :-)
Thanks!!!!
Hi there... wondering if you're going to give this a go has you've got a few viewers like me who'd like to know Thanks!
It works, I've tested.
The Xiaomi repeater is no longer available, any other repeater you've tried and could recommend?
Unfortunately, that is the only model that includes a signal amplifier in addition to the repeater. But it's still available on ebay from China (may take a month to get to you) www.ebay.com/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Amplifier-Smart-WLAN-USB-WIFI-Repeater-1-Extender-Signal-Booster-300M/393063331677
@@Quadcopter101 any recommendation for 5GHZ repeater?
None. All the 5ghz ones that I've tried provided minimal improvement.
Will this work with the jjrc mini elfiy
Does this actually exchange the full range of the drone itself?
Is mi repeater good.or tplink WA820RE?
Good work. Bro can dji mavic2zoom range be extented to unlimited range plz
You seriously asking for unlimited? Try hacking a Verizon Satellite...
And as you said the drone uses the GPS coordinates from the phone so it shouldn't matter if I connect to the repeater or not, this is why it is weird.,
Is it possible to save other drones with the repeater or every time I hit the reset button it forgets the previously saved drones?
Unfortunately no. If you want to switch to another drone, you'll need to use the Mi Home app again. Another option is to purchase additional repeaters for each drone. They are inexpensive.
Quadcopter 101 Thank you SO much for your quick reply!
Well this is a bust .... it says it won't connect to my Potensic T35 drone because the signal is not password protected.
The latest version of the configuration app requires that the WiFi signal has a password. You may download the earlier version 5.1.1 shown in the above video here, as it does not require a password www.androidapksfree.com/apk/mihome-5-1-1-apk/
And here is how to set it up using version 5.1.1 ruclips.net/video/nvK68qrv33U/видео.html
Will I have to set it up this way for my hubsan 501s
+Suazzz H501s does not use WiFi, so no.
Quadcopter 101 I understand I'm new at quads
Is this a good drone to put my go pro on?
Tried to set up extender with my Eachine e58 and it wiped out my e58's WiFi output! I had it when I used Mainland China and set it up as you showed. I changed to US server and signed in then the indicator stayed yellow after 4-5 resets. I turned the extender off and tried to just connect normally and now my e58 isn't broadcasting it's wifi ID. Any suggestions? Thanks, Rocky
I really doubt that the repeater would cause that. But make sure to select and forget the extender signal if its still showing in the WiFi list.
Thanks, Rocky
PS, I am leaving that extender alone for a while.
That I don't know. By the way, when using the Mi Home app, select that you're in mainland China (not US). That way the Mi WiFi extenders show up in the menu. You may need to reinstall the app to enable the China selection to be available.
Hi 101... Great videos but I can't get this Mi to connect to the app at all. I'm in the UK so I've chosen European regions as my 'Locale' but it still refuses to give me anything other than 'No Devices Found' :( Any ideas mate?
+Andy Osmond reinstall the app, but select mainland China as your locale.
Cheers ... will give that a try now mate :)
Cheers 101 .. All sorted ... many thanks :))
Great video as always!one question..sides this work on 5ghz wifi?my bugs b2w could use a boost.im only getting 140 or so meters fpv right now off of ipad.
No unfortunately the repeater only works with 2.4 Ghz WiFi.
My Drone's wifi has no password so MI Repeater wonnt connect to it... What can I do? Is there any config that I can set to connect to routers without pass?
First off, recommend viewing my video showing how to set up the repeater ruclips.net/video/nvK68qrv33U/видео.html
And secondly, you will need to download an older version of the Mi Home app. This older version does not require password for the WiFi. It is the same version used in the setup video, and may be downloaded here for Android www.androidapksfree.com/apk/mihome-5-1-1-apk/
Have you figured it out? I bought the repeater and e58 drone is on the way, can't wait to test it and see if it works?
@@erickbooster1 just like the answer I got. If you find an older version of MI home app you wont need a password. I could connect ir. The problem was that de wifi signal from the drone was too low. So the repeater couldn't do much.

Whats the application youre using in your phone?
Which app did you download it's alot on here?
I downloaded the older version of the Mi Home app here (for Android only) www.androidapksfree.com/devapk/xiaomi-inc/mihome/
Unfortunately the older version is not available for iOS.
I hope it works on the e-58 and the jd-20
My signal source is my home router for tv ect. Is that the correct information or should it be something else on the repeater?
+Bruce Anderson no, the signal source is the quadcopter's signal. Your home WiFi or the internet has nothing to do with the setup.
Since you got to this point,
1) turn on your drone and place it on the ground.
Does this repeater help with the WiFi signal for the camera?
yes
can I use the repeater to control my action cam long distance? my cam wifi only has a range of about 30 feet
That's my problem too.
I wonder if the new ios 11 update has affected what's going on.
Sir can use the apps from mjx b5?
Can anyone confirm that this works? And if so, how much more range can you get

Will this repeater work with SJRC s70w/t70s?
Bro.... Can you tell me the Drone App that you are using?
"X-Hubsan" app. But it only works with the Hubsan H501A and H501M drones. It will not work with the H501S or H501C models.
Thanks bro...
will it work on DJI P2 WiFi ?
Where can I get that repeater now?
Maybe used on eBay? Unfortunately Xiaomi stopped making these years ago. But I don't recommend that you buy this anymore. Xiaomi has changed their setup app so it no longer works with this repeater.
Do you think it would be good for the bugs 2 b2w please reply brother because I really want to do for experience!! Haha
+Brandon Haynes Bugs 2 is 5G WiFi. You'd need a 5G repeater.
Hello, what was the original range
About 100 meters.

worth a try. does not work in british isles for some reason.
Is this better than the original Hubsan brand?
It's very similar in terms of power output. But the original is easier to use as the X-Hubsan app automatically recognizes it (no need for initial setup with Mi Home app).

Hi, what is that drone? I had similar one.
This was a Hubsan H501A model. There were quite a few versions of the H501, and they all looked similar. But the H501A was different than the others, in that it was controlled via WiFi through your phone instead of a normal RC controller.

Does it will work for every fpv wofi drones?
No. Some JJRC drones seem to have a problem connecting to this repeater.
Can this repeater be used with the quad's controller or only with the phone and app?
Only with the phone. The controller's signal is not a digital WiFi signal, and thus can not connect to the repeater.
OK thanks, and do you know of a Bluetooth or wired hand controller that can be used with the phone app or a way to use 2 phones (1 for control the other for video) as I would like the control and video separate but both going through the repeater
Craig Diamond same question for me. Did you found the answer?
Ya, the repeater works only with the wifi app....the controller is 2.4 ghz but not wifi compatible....BUT you can connect more than 1 wifi device at a time! Watch on an ipad and control with a phone.....
Craig Diamond thanks, this is great! And what about the controller? Maybe there is some drone apps that we can use with a bluetooth controller connected to the phone? It would be nice too.
But the live wifi video is not real time like dji drone wifi

I'll try this next time with my 200mW router or my 1000mW CPE for long range flying rather than this 50mW repeater. Might make a good base station, flying the copter around while from the comfort of my bed.

Most H501's are analog. Except for the one in this video. This was a H501A, digital WiFi drone. It and the H501M were the only H501s that used WiFi, and an app. The idea was to give them waypoints capability.

Yes it is the same.
Quadcopter 101 ok thnx bro
Quadcopter 101 im sorry one more question, will it work with my hubsan x4 h501m drone?
It should work the same as with the H501a, as they're both 2.4ghz WiFi drones. However, you may need to Google search for an older version of the Mi Home app, as the latest version requires a password for the WiFi signal.
Quadcopter 101 why? password is a problem?
Did you tried it with spark?
I did, it works.
Will this work on upair one plus?
No, sorry. The upair one uses 5.8 GHz analog videofor FPV instead of digital WiFi.
Thank you sir.
Can't use to dji spark?
Yes it should in 2.4GHz. I'm going to have to try it :)
Please do! Your videos are great!
It's not working for me. I can't add it. I go to add manually, and nothing shows up.
Are you following the steps shown in this video starting at 1:39?
ruclips.net/video/SBQS8OHN25c/видео.html#t=99s
Thanks for the clarification!
Does NOT work with the JXD 523 Tracker Drone
