The. Kids. Are. Alright. The harmony between Ava and Savanna is stellar, and, honestly, almost too melodic for a song with this tune's grunge pedigree. Those two team up again on another SoR AllStar video, contributing transcendent, show-stealing background vocals for a really, really nice version of "California Dreamin'". Well worth checking that one out, too. And, like an earlier poster mentioned, both videos were recorded at Sunset Sound in LA. The production values are outstanding.
Wonderful to see and hear the youth of today covering this gem of a song with much attention to detail. Very glad there are still young people who aspire to be real musicians that learned an instrument. Great job!
Whomever is teaching bass to the women, they're just KILLIN it. Between this one and the Cheap Trick bass performance from a few months ago, it's almost a master class in how to properly Perform the bass and not just 'play' the bass. I have to imagine there's a teacher encouraging that. Keep it up!
Recently I started to watch School of Rock. I was impressed, but I keep seeing even better videos with the SoR covering songs from my youth and they do a fantastic job. I haven't heard this song in ages because local radio stations play the same stuff over, and over and over. Good to hear these lost classics being played again.
I will admit, I have never heard this song before. So I watched this, went and watched the original and came back and watched this again. I would give you all an A+. Excellent.
If you ain't ever heard this then it's a D- for you.. sorry.. but just try harder. They do a great job, if you hear the breeders try this live it ain't great. One slight gripe for me and I'm sure my insignificant opinion will have zero impact on the amazing existence that I'm sure she will experience.. but the singer's voice is a bit too generic rock sounding. She's young.. hopefully she'll find her own voice as she goes.
I think the success of this track and California Dreamin' (same girl singers) is due in large part to the staff at Sunset Sound -- the mixes are exceptional. And also, the videos are exceptionally well produced.
That was great! One of best S.o.R. clips I have seen. Not many kids would have a clue of The Breeders. Lead singer totally got the song. And so much pressure on the bass player on this one. Just an excellent job by all, no weaknesses. A+
Well .. I would have to say that was really enjoyable to watch. The girls compliment each other really well, and the performance is really tight. I haven't heard that tune previously ..so that made it even more enjoyable ... and yes the drummer was super consistent. To all of you .. SALUTE and ROCK ON!!! -Dan-
I just saw this on Facebook reupped and had to come find the original to lavish my praises! Honestly this is on par with the original if not BETTER. I appreciate the detail of capturing the same inflections on the words that was always my favorite thing about this song. ♥ I'm gonna go binge on these now, this was all my serotonin for the day. You guys are brilliant and I'm so thrilled classic gems are being made available in the best way possible for the younger set. The talent here is bonkers.
I dig it.....just different enough from the original to feel new, and just close enough to feel familiar. People always told me that "anyone can do covers" and it didn't really count as music. I never bought into that idea. A lot of musicians start out experimenting with other people's sounds on their way to finding their own sound. I hope these kids ignore the haters and doubters, and just keep finding and refining their sound and style. They're already well on their way. Definitely a lot better than I was at their age. Much love and respect!
I'm the same. I was the vocalist/guitarist in my garage band and I always tried to put my own tone and style into the covers we did. Imagine Black Sabbath played through a cheap 90's metal rig, with added pinch harmonics, wah-wah and Floyd Rose whammy action.
Great stuff, kids! I loved it. This was one of my favorite songs back when it came out when I was in high school. I'm sure that Kim Deal herself would be happy to hear you singing her song this well.
Wow! This is just so well done on everyone's part. Oh my God! This is my first time seeing Ava and she sings this so freaking good. I have seen Savanna in a couple other videos and she has an amazing voice and style. Bass player and drummer are dead on. Guitars players so good. Well done everybody! Thank God for the School of Rock. Where were you in the 60s and early 70s when I was young, haha.
@@dennisheaton4008 I have come to realize that in the last couple days that I've watched that great video.. So I take it back because apparently I have seen Ava before without realizing it. haha
So fantastic to see you appreciate this alternative rock classic! I saw the Breeders on "down the rabbit hole" festival 2018 in Holland. Brought back memories from when I was your age. Kim Deal is stil the coolest rock queen, together with PJ Harvey of course..
I recently saw an interview with Blu De Tiger where she mentioned that she got into music via a School of rock program in NYC. So great to see this path being made more accessible to young people!
Savanna, Ava et al; you gotta realize something. This is music "we grew up on". We being the over 40 crowd (some way over 40)! We have been subjected to some real crap music over the last 30 years or so. Auto / Radio tuning vocals has replaced talent. So when we see talent on display, as shown here, and in other SOR vids; I can only speak for myself here, but we acknowledge your hard work, and show pride in it by sharing it. Thank you for the great music and the smiles!
WOW!!!! You guys nailed it!!!! It's one of my favorites songs back in the day and i wasn't sure what to expect before hearing your version, but i'm amazed. Well done!!!!
Me a month ago: School of What? Me today: Have you accepted the kids at School of Rock as your lord and savior? Please take this pamphlet, God bless you Sir.
When my mom told me to go to school of rock almost a year ago I thought I would hate it because I wasn't that good at guitar and I was also really shy. But I'm so glad she forced me to go because it's my favorite thing ever
@@pi2z806 No, Pi. I was referring to Blind's idea that I didn't know abt SoR, but when I learned, I believed! Great concept and the results are stellar. Wtg, kid! Are any of your videos up?
There are two SOR songs I keep returning to, one is "California Dreaming" and the other is "Cannonball", both because of the vocalists. I heard the original "Cannonball" on the radio the other day, and this is actually a superior version.
My hat is off to the instructors who are guiding these young folks into music of the past, my past. Great job!
We of the '90s salute you, great choice great cover.
By far and away, the best SoR video on RUclips. This group should all stick together.

I agree - they have incredible voices, but it almost makes this song too pretty. Not a criticism of them at all.

Absolutely
After watching multiple school of rock videos. I am seeing the same students. I am proud to say these kids are professionals. Keep it up.
Videos like these remind you:
- Life goes on;
- The kids are alright!
Difficult song to cover but these kids nailed it. Each and every one of them. Great work everybody.

Carol Kaye, perhaps.
