I have it since last year and all i can say is that visibility in car is awesome, higher sitting position and comfort.
With 150 HP 2.0 Diesel engine, Highline equipment, 18" Durban Rims, avg. consumption about 6 l/100km (forget papers, the all lie about this figures) i am very very satisfied with this car.
If i need more space for my family i would go just line up for new Touran.

I was pleasantly surprised for the quality of your review, few places do a detailed review. Sadly most of European cars are not available as well in Canada but I like to keep updated with what's out there. Keep the good work.

Well, if many others demand this car, they might think about launching it on your market too :)
Indeed almost all English language reviews are either made by hooligans who take the car to a track to powerslide (AutoExpress etc) or they're very quick and shallow (Carbuyer), or they very long but never drive the car (the army of Saabkyle clones).
Granted, there's Alex on Autos, which is excellent for the US market, but he's a one man show so it sometimes gets a bit static in terms of camerawork.
Volkswagen doesn't stand for "People car" does it. It stands for properly built alternative to mainstream rubbish. Few manufacturers offer you this level of quality at this price. I drive a mk7 golf and I love it, and I like what they have done with the SV. Excellent review as always and I liked the fact you mentioned the gas strut for the bonnet. Also note how VW's always paint under the bonnet and around the tailgate as well as the rest of the car, when other manufacturers, even BMW just spray primer, and also the lack of visible spot welds around the door frames on VW's.
Great that you like our reviews. Indeed the Golf SV is a great piece of quality! The real "people cars" _pricewise_ are nowadays rather the Skoda or Seat which are cheaper but also offer good quality. However, in Germany, Volkswagen is still bought way more than anything else, so just figure wise it is still people's car!
***** Oh I know. I went to Germany recently and nearly every other car is a VW, well Stuttgart is where I went so that's not a surprise. I am a sucker for VW, by dad has been buying them since the 70's in the UK. But seriously, so many cars are built to a budget, VW's are built to a standard. Most amount of cars on the road in Europe and north America with over 100,000 miles (160,000 KM ;)

***** Stuttgart, I meant Wolfsburg ahah! Stuttgart is Porsche. Wolfsburg is VW, because someone told me there when the MK5 golf came out, VW were so proud of it that they wanted to change to name to Golfsburg. Don't know if that is true ahah! I went to Lower Saxony, Wolfsburg is there isn't it.
Oliver Newell I was already surprised :) Stuttgart is Porsche and Daimler. In Wolfsburg, everything is about VW indeed. But a name change would never be possible in beaurocratic Germany ;-)

Hey Frank, sorry somehow it's not possible to answer directly to your comment, so I'll do it here. This is the shoreline near St. Tropez in France, where the esterel mountains are just beginning. Very impression as the red rocks reach out for the sea. Beautiful place indeed.
Really a shame that the Sportsvan is not available in the US yet, are you saying that people basically have interest in that segment over at your place?

Sadly, this car is not available in US.
there are lots of European cars are not for sale in US, I don't like that.
There are also lots of US cars not sold here in Europe, but we don't miss them !
That is the same shape and look of touran except golf sv looks a bit more sportier look

hugh panting I see your confusion! Definetely do NOT pick Habanero Orange Metallic, this one is very ugly. Actually, in Germany we have about 30 colours to pick from, so there is obviously a wider variety. Indeed you cannot pick Sunset Red in the UK, however it looks to me that Camen Red is the closes colour to this! The Tornado Red is a more intensive, brighter red. Maybe ask you local dealer if he has / will get a car in Camen Red colour to show you?

I think google is also confusing because results for Camen Red also show the Habanero Orange which is definetely way different - so dont trust google picture search on that one :) I will try to find you another answer on the comparison to the two dark red colours though, hold tight.
VW should have simply spruced up the Touran....to reflect a "sporty" pedigree and increased engine size....
Very nice car, but I can't stand the silver line arround the windows. It's like go back to the eighties.

It's probably all well and high standards, good materials but it's just wack to call this thing 'Sportsvan' that is really too much a title for a hightened box on wheels. I'm sorry.

***** Thx. It's strange how some titles are used when they're not in place.
Some presenters on What Car call everything that is a little hightened on their wheels and looks rough 'SUV', while it's actually a crossvoer. Or some car makers call a sedan with a coupe-styled roofline a coupe. It ain't right.
It may drive well, this VW, but it's not dynamic enough to have any name that says 'sport' or something in that style.
