Derek is probably THE MOST underrated rock vocalist of all time. He's not underrated to those of us who are fans but he just never got the recognition he so deserved. Even though in this performance they tuned down a half or a whole step to a lower key, Derek still has it.
Tuning down 1/2 step here was almost certainly not to accommodate Derek, in that as of 2023, Derek's band still tunes to std. pitch for his solo artist live shows (where, of course, he does many Nugent songs that he originally sang). Ted's band started tuning down 1/2 step quite a while back (1995 or maybe earlier) when Ted unfortunately decided to be the primary lead singer. Will say I always loved Ted's primal screams...but not his singing!

Check out Mastodon.. their newest full length “Emperor Of Sand”, Baroness, The Sword, Moon Tooth, Marcus King Band etc etc.. Ted is great but new cats smoke him hands down. The bands you name are all very good bands. There is some good music out there, not to ever be found on FM Radio. Pretty much like it was when we were young: "The Oldies" so popular now was the FM crap none of us listened to. We were digging albums.
I saw Ted in Lansing at the civic center. Initially on the way there, because we were walking down the sidewalk, people were slowing and asking if we were going to he Nugent show. We then found out Ted had been in a crash on the way and the show had been cancelled. I must confess the "make-up" show was so fucking electrifying I remember it to this day. One of the best rock concerts ever and I can't explain why. He still had a bandage on his left cheek and it was probably the first time I ever saw him play a Les Paul. I'm getting "goose bumps" right now...........
Sad thing is if you see re-runs of WKRP on TVLand or some other channel now, they have replaced all the original music I assume due to licensing issues. It's like the fucking scumbag lawyers have ripped out a chunk of my childhood when I see it now.

He played this in Memphis North Hall in like 1976. I was there. That was an awesome show even though Mahogany Rush had some kind of problem and never made it. it was all Nugent that night.
I don't know if I was at this show or possibly a show there (star plaza theatre) a year later. He seemed to play there every tour since 2010 or so. Anyway, I had been seeing some concerts and the guitars always sounded like they weren't really being cranked up. I saw REO speedwagon and the lead guitarist (Dave Ammotto ?? I think (sp?) who happened to play with Ted at one time) his guitar seemed as though it had no overdrive. The chords sounded fine but when the solo came around you just couldn't hear the guitar. A tech was messing with the amps during songs and Dave was even switching guitars during songs. So I was telling my sister about guitars not really being cranked up and she said "your hearing is damaged, all your concerts and you've damaged your hearing". Not too long after that I see Ted is coming back to Star Plaza so I get a ticket and I told my sister" if I think Teds' guitar is not cranking, I will go and have my hearing tested". So the concert rolls around and I was seated just a few seats to the side of the soundboard. Ted comes out starts jammin' , my hearing is fine because Ted has the thing cranked. It was pretty loud. he played maybe 2 songs and then during the next tune I see the sound guy slide a couple buttons up higher and I swear the volume doubled! It was about like getting hit in the head with a brick. It stayed that loud for the rest of the show. Ordinarily after a concert I have a 2 or 3 day period where my hearing is a little messed up. After this show it was messed up for about 3 weeks. I was just about ready to go to the ear doctor because I thought my hearing was permanently screwed up. Fortunately I woke up one morning and it was back to normal. I've been to 100's if not 1000's of shows and that Ted show was easily the loudest I had ever been to. The opening band was called "pistol day parade". They did a tune called rock stars girlfriend and also a cover of feel it coming in the air tonight (or what ever the title of that is). Even they were a pretty good warm up band. That's just for a reference of what tour it was. I just saw Ted a few months ago at an old movie thetre in Kalamazoo, MI. Never had seen Ted there before and it was awesome. No trouble hearing Teds' guitar but it wasn't anywhere near as loud as the Star Plaza show.
jsdspif3 Cool story, but do yourself a favor and buy good earplugs and use them. You have certainly experienced hearing damage, and Ted is wearing earplugs, of course.

The first release of the shows on DVD had new songs due to licensing issues (it was awful) but you can get them with the originals now.

He played this in Memphis North Hall in like 1976. I was there. That was an awesome show even though Mahogany Rush had some kind of problem and never made it. it was all Nugent that night.

I don't know if I was at this show or possibly a show there (star plaza theatre) a year later. He seemed to play there every tour since 2010 or so. Anyway, I had been seeing some concerts and the guitars always sounded like they weren't really being cranked up. I saw REO speedwagon and the lead guitarist (Dave Ammotto ?? I think (sp?) who happened to play with Ted at one time) his guitar seemed as though it had no overdrive. The chords sounded fine but when the solo came around you just couldn't hear the guitar. A tech was messing with the amps during songs and Dave was even switching guitars during songs. So I was telling my sister about guitars not really being cranked up and she said "your hearing is damaged, all your concerts and you've damaged your hearing". Not too long after that I see Ted is coming back to Star Plaza so I get a ticket and I told my sister" if I think Teds' guitar is not cranking, I will go and have my hearing tested". So the concert rolls around and I was seated just a few seats to the side of the soundboard. Ted comes out starts jammin' , my hearing is fine because Ted has the thing cranked. It was pretty loud. he played maybe 2 songs and then during the next tune I see the sound guy slide a couple buttons up higher and I swear the volume doubled! It was about like getting hit in the head with a brick. It stayed that loud for the rest of the show. Ordinarily after a concert I have a 2 or 3 day period where my hearing is a little messed up. After this show it was messed up for about 3 weeks. I was just about ready to go to the ear doctor because I thought my hearing was permanently screwed up. Fortunately I woke up one morning and it was back to normal. I've been to 100's if not 1000's of shows and that Ted show was easily the loudest I had ever been to. The opening band was called "pistol day parade". They did a tune called rock stars girlfriend and also a cover of feel it coming in the air tonight (or what ever the title of that is). Even they were a pretty good warm up band. That's just for a reference of what tour it was. I just saw Ted a few months ago at an old movie thetre in Kalamazoo, MI. Never had seen Ted there before and it was awesome. No trouble hearing Teds' guitar but it wasn't anywhere near as loud as the Star Plaza show.
jsdspif3 Cool story, but do yourself a favor and buy good earplugs and use them. You have certainly experienced hearing damage, and Ted is wearing earplugs, of course.
