I was there!!!! There were so many great musicians performing, and time makes you forget some of the smaller things. But Mr. Nugent playing "Stranglehold" being carried through the airwaves was one of the major standouts!
For those of you who do not know, this was the last time that the 4 original members from the Ted Nugent band played together. After this March 18, 1978 concert, Derek St. Holmes and Rob Grange left the band because Nugent "did not want a band concept." However, drummer Cliff Davies remained with Uncle Ted up until 1981.
My dad let me fly out to California with my friends for this gig. The first of O so many Ted Nugent shows. What a fucking experience it was. 20 yrs later, I became friends with Ted and ended up working with him. My favorite guitar player ever. And a Damn good friend.
It was fucking crazy, soo many people, wacked out people but the vibe was overall good. The rush for the stage when they announced Ted was scary, a wall of crazies!!! Oh the Days
I probably said this before...but working on the Milwaukee Brewers Ground Crew...I worked Ted's headlining gig at Milwaukee County Stadium...it held just 42,000 before final additions settled in...but I watched Ted in amazement as he lit up the crowd with his natural love for kicking ass...and Gonzo just kicked me in the nuts...his electric magic just said...This is Rock Music...Ted Nugent said it all that day...ALLi could sit and listen to him talk all day and learn what life is baby ...LET IT BE KNOWN !!
Right towards the end of the classic era and they actually look like their having a ball ha ha Ted and Co. Honestly don't get the amount of respect in the rock world that they really deserve. Say what you want but when they were in they were serious and tight!
Kicked ass back then, and still doing it now. I've seen him numerous times fron the 70's up until now (yes I'm old), and he still blows the doors off. Keep it up Ted!
I was gonzoed off a duster I bogarted. Had to watch on my knees with a massive hangover but still digging it.. about a quarter of a mile away from the stage!! Took me way back!!
I had a job working for Ben Sterns Catering which worked the food concession, so we get in the night before, got to hear all the sound checks. It was so cool. Until the next day when they opened the gates and the audience came flooding in. Packed in like sardines against the stage for Ted.
I was also at this concert. :) They ended up letting us in, if I remember, around 11/12'ish the night before, when it was supposed to be the next morning around 6 am. We made a mad dash to the front and set up our blankets and ice chests. Partied all night long, and when we woke up, we where less then 10 rows from the stage. :) Had a great time, and there was no trouble at all. I doubt that you can put that many teens and young adults in one place, nowadays, without bad things going down.
I remember the day was going along pretty good..and then Gonzo hit the stage! I reckon all of the 300,000+ were on their feet. Fun part was the family friend from farm town, Iowa. He was there for Nuge: first concert, first time high. He was goin nuts- as u can imagine. Next day we watched him wrestle in a tournament..won his class handily. Oh, very good times indeed! 😎
@@tarasbulba3190If you buy the DVD Frank was one of the last to perform because he kept being pushed back in the line up and ended up playing at night and he played some of his songs but ended up playing the Mickey mouse song on guitar at the very end because he said that it was set up and run by about bunch of Mickey mouse screw ups in a interview he had with someone . He has a website that you can join for free and not much time spent creating an account for it but there are a bunch of old photos and there are different areas for posts and you can ask him questions and usually in short time he will respond to them back to you . He talks about all kinds of things like why he left the music business or how it was to work on tours with other bands and how Ted Nugent had his roadies shove Teds amplifiers out on stage to start a guitar dual and how Frank could play any licks Ted threw at him and that Ted at the end bowed down on his knees in front of Frank as if to say you beat me all mighty one lol . Frank also said that he was a headliner for a concert that a young Stevie Ray Von was in and Frank said that he would go around and talk and meet some of the other band and members and said hi to Stevie Ray Von and he said that Stevie Ray Von wouldn't even look at him or acknowledge him at all like the coked up punk was at the time but I'm sure Frank was blowing Stevie Ray Von"s band off the stage each night and Stevie didn't like this so he snubbed Frank . Frank also builds his own guitar amplifiers and effects pedal or modifies pedals he gets to make them work and sound better so he's quite different in ways to other guitar players where he has the knowledge to do this . He is retired now because of health issues but look into his agora theater DVD set that's 6 hours out of a 12 hour concert he did and look to see why it took so many years for him to come out with the DVD and how he created the software for his computer to bring back the lost drum tracks for the concert and how many edits he had to do to bring the drum tracks back because it's very interesting because everyone he knew including his brother Vince who was in the original lineup of the band and had moved on years later and became a big recording engineer in NY said that nothing could be done to bring these lost drum tracks back but Frank figured out a way to do it .
Ten Nugent is one of the best music makers of ALL time, Right up there with the MASTERS KISS, Yes they are getting older BUT I bet they can run circles around many musical artists of today. when you hear themusic of today it just has that electrical voice sound and not the music from the soul like Ted, Kiss , Meatloaf, and Led Zeppplin thanks for posting
