Hi PC J Law ! The thing with Mongolia's UA is that you shouldn't only consider the combat strength for itself but also for the fact that, while making you stronger against CS units, it allows your units to xp more easily than they would usually do. As you said, fighting CS is easy, even on Deity difficulty. Thus you could consider declaring war to one or two CS in order to quickly get your units trained for real war. :)
Hi! And thanks for the tip! You're right that I could fight some City States for a while to get xp levelling since my units are stonger. It's true that I don't have to use it for capturing! I could have done it with Chariots I suppose, but I was only ready just in time for my war with America, and needed infrastructure beforehand which meant I didn't have time to train them for a bit C Rendler is right below though, I would have to have left my initial worker steal war open on the City State, otherwise I would have taken a diplomatic hit
@@crendler9912 Good point - always worth bearing in mind. I did a rare multi-steal in a very recent game and it really came back to bite me as that City State was crucial to happiness!
Hi! I'm new to Civ5 and I'm learning a lot from your tutorials and gameplay. Please keep them coming! May I ask what mod you used to show the Production tooltip at 9:55? I have the Enhanced User Interface mod but the tooltip shown is completely different.
I just found out that I can get the same information by hovering over the Production of a city at the bottom left corner of the city's screen. That works for me, so never mind! I'm assuming we're just using different versions of the EUI Mod.
@@TuringMachine001 Hi - glad you found your answer! Also thank you for the kind feedback and I'm glad you're finding it all useful! I am using v1.28 (legacy) version of EUI. Perhaps you're using the newer v1.29? I use the older v1.28 because 1.29 is frowned upon in the multiplayer world
@@TuringMachine001 Alright glad we reconciled the difference! It's frowned upon because it gives you extra information compared to normal. With 1.28, you don't get extra information over and above what's available without the mod. It takes non-mod users longer to get, but you can at least get it Whereas in 1.29, the info addict style graphs DO give you access to way more information, which is a big advantage in multiplayer
CSs will keep the conquered cities if there is available happiness (lux or buildings captured) . You can see that Indonesia's cities are pretty much never razed bc there a unique lux under the cities...
I think in Indonesia's case, the city states won't raze the cites because Indonesia's unique ability actually specifically states the cities cannot be razed.

I dont really like the Mongols. They just seem to be a mediocre war civ. You can get Khans from cs allies if you have patronage. patronage is really good anyways.(i have won many games with it easily but i have never used it on deity yet). Keshiks are just worse camel archers, and you can get camel archers from military cs. Going to war with cs is usually not a good idea long term. the -20 resting point is difficult to deal with. if you are going to attack more than one cs you can declare war, attack, and make peace before they can ever attack. This works much better with the Huns or Assyria because they have early siege units. The Keshiks and Khans work well together but you need a high movement melee unit. otherwise it is hard to actually take cities. you almost need a knight from a cs to help your army, but then you dont get to use the +30% bonus. overall Khans and Keshiks are good but their bonuses are contradictory. civs like Arabia or the Huns are better in my opinion.
You would be correct - great assessment! In the multiplayer community people are not so fond of Mongolia, preferring several other war civs. The Keshik is a weaker Camel Archer and takes away the Knight, which is a powerful unit itself (being the best combat strength you can get, at high movement, until the musketman comes along). Granted you can still "not upgrade a couple of horseman", but losing the Knight is sad times They just don't have any bonus towards the peaceful portion of the game, whereas Arabia has an excellent bonus, and the hunnic bonuses are very decent too And the worst bit is, Mongolia's abilities don't really synergise with gameplay. AIs/player's cities are very often better than CS, a decent portion of which get garbage land. PLUS, not only do you take the -20 and lose influence faster if you declare war on multiple, but AIs will hate your forever for killing one Definitely agree with you, a lack of all around synergy with things that are good and bad in civ 5. That's why Mongolia AI gets rekt every time! However, Keshiks are superb units in the hand of a player against Deity AI, it's just a shame that's the ONLY bonus you have!
You make some decent points but overly relying on getting gifted the right cs units/great people is unwise and a somewhat unfair assessment, imho. Sure, you could always get gifted exactly the correct unique units and unique great people that you need in any situation, rendering any and all unique units and great people that are inherent to specific civs obsolete - but that is highly unlikely and you could also just get pikemen and warriors instead.
@Nr4747 Agreed. In order to get a Khan from a city state, you need to finish Patronage. And if you can afford to finish Patronage, you were probably going to win the game anyway.
It's highly-situational, but the extra movement on Keshiks makes it a lot easier to attack through the civ that built the Great Wall. Moving onto a hill inside the Great Wall costs 3 movement points, so a camel archer wouldn't be able to kite away after shooting a city.

that makes sense but you then have to deal with the -20 resting point.
