    The bonded windows are definitely the ones I would choose as well for my boat, and its great that you chose them as well, its been great seeing the process on which the windows were made.
    It goes to shw how much human manual work goes into the making of the windows, something that I guess doesnt get appreciated that much or seen for that matter and its been a delight to see the process from the beginning to end with having your windows made.
    3:54 was definitely Shaun's lottery "release the balls moment" bless him
    The falling glass moment was breath stopping, but you know the man knew what he was doing, he will have been doing it for ages and the surface at first glance is very deceiving too, it looks totally solid but has some very interesting hidden features.
    I think we have a small theme as well here for Colin with his toblerone mentions - great choice in chocolate by the way.
    I loved what barry said about the windows that they can be easily replaced and a new one sent out to you in the post, that is pretty good really.
    Also that with the windows being able to be removed completely for emergcny exits etc it does make alot of sense when you think about it should that particular situation have ever arised, its forward thinking as a backup in case the fore and aft exits are unreachable especially in rapid situations....
    A HUGE THANKS to Barry for making this possible for the guys as well and for letting us take a look into the behind the scenes of window making for a narrowboat.

    Thanks for letting us see that really fascinating process. I never cease to be amazed by modern processes. There are some very clever people around. I remember as a picture framer having to handle large sheets of 2mm glass and I was always relieved to get the sheets cut into smaller peices without any costly accidents.
    You two suddenly reminded me of Doddy's Diddy Men! ;D

    Brilliant video - nice to see they've got you linked on their site - nice PR for both of you. It always amazes me that companies can make a living from what I have perceived as niche markets: Narrowboats and horseboxes! Plus I always wonder how people think 'I think I'll make windows for boats and horseboxes' and know they'll make a living. Love it!!!!!

    I am amazed! That was just so interesting to see the CAD Cutter knock out those window pieces from that big sheet of glass. Damn, how come that didn't break? If you or I had done that it would be smithereens and star in the bloopers section. In a past life (1995), I did a short stint as a CAD Kitchen designer and we had a CAD cutter for the doors etc. Came from Italy and was amazing to watch, a stinker to program. All done in DOS. Sigh. Had never seen the process to produce those awesome windows, just blew me away. They show just so much style. A bit like you lads really LOL

      The reason why that huge piece of glass didn't break when it fell was because it didn't fall on to just a hard surface it actually fell onto a little cloud of air which cushioned the fall to where the glass would not break until they wanted it to. The table in which the glass fell onto is actually a airtable much like you would find in an arcade game called air hockey game.

    A few years back I had a Liverpudlian boyfriend. We took a trip to Glasgow to visit my relatives. On the way back we had to take a bus out of Wigan. It was stuffy and airtight. I had to fight against having a panic attack. From then on when we had to do something we didn't like, we would comment, "I'd rather be on a bus to Wigan." It was funny at the time.

    Thanks. Another great, interesting vlog. A practical consideration: when you say ‘toughened glass’ does that mean it’s security glass - in other words hard (or harder) for a burglar or a vandal to smash? Is that level of security something you’ve considered or are windows somewhat standardized nowadays (I genuinely don’t know!)? Thank you.

    • @baitcommajail
      @baitcommajail 5 лет назад

      Why don’t you want double glazing? Seems an odd choice?

    • @FoxesAfloat
      @FoxesAfloat  5 лет назад

      Double glazing on a boat doesn’t really reduce as much noise as they do in a house. The cost and installation differences don’t make any financial sense. Also, they don’t reduce humidity in the boat. They may reduce condensation on the windows (a little), but the moisture has to go somewhere, so it just enters the carpet, bedding etc. The cost is also silly! That’s why you don’t see many boats with double glazing.

    • @baitcommajail
      @baitcommajail 5 лет назад

      @@FoxesAfloat Ah. I was more thinking about the insulation properties of better windows. You have that lovely layer of foam sprayed in under the wall and roof boards, but they you have a single layer of glass radiating all your heat out in to the winter.
