Another band with sophisticated simp[licity is Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark. They blow my mind with their genius simplicity. Why didn't I think of that?
Very enjoyable Espen! I'm always amazed, when really paying attention, at the "sophisticated simplicity" of DM's musicality. The bass and melody lines, especially in their early work, are almost always cleverly intertwined in both shape and time, with the melody leaving "room" for the bass line to pick things up, or vice versa. The same can be said of their sonicality, where each sound is given a "spot" to shine through in the mix.
Thanks! Making "chords" by using monophonic synths and lines in the early days is very effective and transparent. Very clever. It's also interesting that they often, at least post VC, their synth solo lines often came in (ended) one semitone under what they started. Very unusual in chart pop. ;-)

Here's my own Top 10: 1) Just Can't Get Enough - iconic Clarke sound, to be continued in Erasure :) 2) Photographic - one of the few darker tunes in the Clarke-era "bright lights, dark room", a glimpse into what's to come later 3) Everything Counts - the industrial samples were definitive of the Wilder-era sound 4) Shake The Disease - Gore's iconic "moaning" :) 5) Black Celebration - that iconic gothic sound, to stay for years to come 6) Behind the Wheel - Gore's iconic simple guitar riffs 7) Little 15 - DM's iconic minor scales 8) Strangelove - definitive DM opening in the late 80's 9) Personal Jesus - Gore's iconic guitar riffs++ 10) Walking in my shoes - iconic of DM's transition to the 90's and later post-Wilder era, distorted guitar and drums .. end of the classics.
Wonderful list of intros that made me discover again some early gems. Hearing some sounds that are practically identical to the original songs has amazed me, even if it's crafted with the same synth. What about the intro of "Nothing" from "Music from the masses"? Also, i'd like to ask if there's a possibility for a future collaboration with @Alex Ball ;-)

No Blasphemous Rumors? That’s blasphemy! Seriously though, this was great stuff. Nice to see (and hear) Agent Orange there.
Thanks man! :D
I liked your version of Never Let Me Down Again. Well Done!
Cheers! :D
This is great! Love that room, with all that vintage gear, like the EMAX or the Drumulator. And of course I love how you created your own way to play those DM songs. Just a thing: the name of the song at 2:30 is "The Meaning Of Love" published on "A Broken Frame" instead of "Dreaming Of Me" ;)
Thanks! Yes, that's a bad one on my part. I made the cover art first, to help me organize my recording, in sequence, but then I changed out that song and forgot the cover art. Very bad, but can't reupload videos on RUclips unfortunately. I've put it in the video description. Cheers :D
Espen was just testing you to see if you would notice ,you passed 👍
@@EspenKraft Don't worry, it's not a big deal, the video is very enyojable anyways. Keep up the good work man! :)
@@TheMontyfire haha wow, thank you very much!
OMG que haces aquí
Shout, a B-Side; the greatest intro and song. Vince and Daniel coming up with that Arp 2600 Random LFO S&H percussive sequence.......still sounds forty years ahead of its time..... TODAY.
Loved the never let me down again version, sounded really smooth.
So many to choose from and I’m sure you left some out that on another day you would put in but where so you stop ? 😀
Strangelove, see you and the landscape is changing to name just 3
Thanks! There are actually some practical reasons for the content on this list. Sometimes when I'm making drums template and stuff like that it's easier to do small covers like this to get a sense of the direction I'm going and why not go the extra length and release them as such, for a bit of fun. ;-)
Great video Espen! You captured the essence of those wonderful songs. DM one of my all time favourites bands.
Happy to hear that Nicolas! :) Cheers
Here's my own Top 10:
1) Just Can't Get Enough - iconic Clarke sound, to be continued in Erasure :)
2) Photographic - one of the few darker tunes in the Clarke-era "bright lights, dark room", a glimpse into what's to come later
3) Everything Counts - the industrial samples were definitive of the Wilder-era sound
4) Shake The Disease - Gore's iconic "moaning" :)
5) Black Celebration - that iconic gothic sound, to stay for years to come
6) Behind the Wheel - Gore's iconic simple guitar riffs
7) Little 15 - DM's iconic minor scales
8) Strangelove - definitive DM opening in the late 80's
9) Personal Jesus - Gore's iconic guitar riffs++
10) Walking in my shoes - iconic of DM's transition to the 90's and later post-Wilder era, distorted guitar and drums .. end of the classics.
Without timestamps this is utterly useless.
@@omgtkseth Timestamps for each track ?
Nice to see a little love for the Alpha Juno, underrated synth!
It's paid my bills for years. ;-)
Thanks man! I could easily have done every song from that album, but then again there are so many great ones. ;-)
I really don't collaborate on making music in itself anymore. I just don't like it.
It's a pity, but I do understand your position. Anyway, I can't wait to watch your next video! Cheers man!
Nice work. Thanks for the help working some of this out for me.
Cheers!
