    Very proud to have been part of two Slicer Sabre videos, both times as a prop to contrast the main subject. Folks, don’t ever let anyone tell you hard work doesn’t pay off 😤

    One of my students from 4 years back won through that first situation. Opponent false starts 3 times, 3rd one being the final point. Ref gives the card, opponent goes nuts. My student is still on guard, turns his head to me and says "What just happened?" I tell him "You've won." Still on guard, "I did?" Opponent is still going nuts.

    On a personal level I sort of feel for Tarantino, I remember many annoying fights against taller fencers who leveraged their reach being full of those "Non è possible" one light hits before the 2016 timing change.

    I don't condone Tarantino's behavior on the strip but I can say that for the very very brief moment i trained with him irl (albeit outside of competition), he was very nice

    The Curatoli - Bazadze bit is especially funny, two dogs with entangled leashes showing force, but with moderation.

    Bout 1: referee is quite correct
    Bout 2: I feel Tarantino's pain
    Bout 3: I feel the referee's stress
    Bout 4: Yakimenko is a cheat

    So, Bazadze's 1st phrase should've been "attack-no"? He steps first, then hits. Referees tend to count it as a miss (at least in my country)

      That's such a hard call to make. If Curatoli is looking for a parry then it can be attack composee with that foot-hand timing, but it's really not clear that he is. Maybe? Abstain is probably right IMO.

  • @johnrohde5510
    @johnrohde5510 Год назад +2

    At 3:40 the fencer from the right clearly hit after his front foot landed. It isn't close.

    • @SlicerSabre
      @SlicerSabre  Год назад +2

      Unfortunately the foot landing isn't always judged as attack no, which makes these situations more complicated. Especially when the defender might be searching for a parry.

      @@SlicerSabre I've never seen a top level match where it isn't called that way. If we are going to second guess the rules, then we'll have nothing but arguments and not much of a game. From our club's correspondence with one of the two top sabre referees, a couple of years ago; they apply the rules except for the flunge. Until the pro and anti-fleche factions work it out in the FIE, that's a don't ask, don't tell issue. For the rest, they call it as written.

    • @SlicerSabre
      @SlicerSabre  Год назад +1

      @@johnrohde5510 this is a clear example of foot landing not being applied in a top level match. I could send you many many more also. I wish it were a consistently applied rule, but it's not. The final of the world championships this year is also an example.

    • @johnrohde5510
      @johnrohde5510 Год назад

      @@SlicerSabre then it's not a close call, just a bad one. The referee is infallible in matters of fact, not of the rules.
