I know it’s been SEVEN YEARS, but I reference this video as a “refresher”, as well as recommend it to others, quite often! Today is another one of those days! It is 09 Feb 2024! I am a crocheter mostly, but this stitch is used from time to time, but not often enough - FOR ME, personally, to feel completely confident. At any rate, I appreciate you STILL and thought I’d pop into the comments and say so, on the off chance y’all will see this! Thank you so very much - again! 😊 cheers! Lisa in Ohio ☺️🫶🏻🧶🪡🧵
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! As a Father who doesn't have a supportive mother and whose grandma died before she could teach... I've always wanted to learn. It's such a good skill to know and use.
I know this was 2 years ago, but I just wanted to leave a supportive comment (since the others aren't, really). It is so wonderful to hear of a father who wants to sew and do what he can for his family. I really hope you were able to keep this up! What you and your family can get out of sewing is so much better than anything store bought, or can enhance what was store bought (like new clothes for their dolls, or keeping existing clothing in good condition)! Keep up the good work
I have looked at five books trying to figure out this stitch to no avail. I watched this twice and have already completed sewing around my pocket as desired. I am so happy. Thank you so much for this clear tutorial. I’m ready to do the edge of my skirt now. 🌼
Really nicely explained. My daughter was given a cushion kit to make and I had to show her the blanket stitch. She and I were able to make sense of what looks like a complicated method. Big thanks and thumbs up from us both.
Thanks for the easy instructions and video. Love how you started the video with the first stitch and explain as you go. I have stared at countless tutorials and it hasn't clicked. I finally feel confident enough to finish an applique project I started years ago!
Trying to prevent fray on the inseam of a set of pants that split at the crotch. This video is 8 yrs old and was still the 1st recommendation when searched for refresh!!! Thank you!
i keep coming back to this video time to time since i haven't fully mastered it but you always explain it SO well!!!! i know it's been many years since you made this but i just want to thank you so so so so much. have a good life.
11th November 2024. This video is perfect! I've bought a nursery garland kit (sealife creatures) and hope to be able to make this (out of felt) for the arrival of my first grandchild 😊
This was amazing I never learned how to sew and you made this easy and so easy to follow (especially with the colors and thick thread) thank you for posting 😊
I have searched and searched AND searched for a tutorial on the blanket stitch and watched countless videos and still not able to get it. Yours did the trick! It was perfect! I just subscribed and look forward to your other videos. Thank you so much!
omg thank you!! as a crafty girl im trying to make a plushie with felt but i couldnt for the life of me find a proper tutorial but this tutorial was really slow and easy !! so thank you ❤
I am making sweater slippers, I looked and it said, "Blanket Stitch Recommended." I looked up it, and you were one of the most popular, Thank you very much. Very Helpful. Can't wait to see more.
I come back to this video all the time and always specifically look for your tutorial. It’s succinct, friendly, and so informative! You’re wonderful, thank you for your help! 😊✌🏻
My fist step: take 30 minutes trying yo get the thread to go through needle 🪡 but thank you SUCH! i was trying to make a blanket thanky yoyt such a lifesaver!
Thank you for the up-close tutorial! I’ve been trying to remember how to do it. I want to use it on the front facing and collar section of a whimsical cow fabric jacket I’m making. The facings are already sewn together, just want the decorative stitching for a little more whimsy.
Maggy, I got the idea for a Coleman camp oven cover from the beginning of this RUclips video. This will show you what I was try to describe to you: "Lake Mead Rec Area Camping, Hiking, Coleman Oven Baking! Full Time Van Life!" The only difference in my version would be the welding blanket type (3/8" thickness "felt" type welding blanket like I explained to you previously) and hand sewing the back seams. Thank you for your time, Paul
Lots of ways to do it. Depends on the circumstances. I use it in moccasin making to put my tops on and I just back stitch it. You can also do the thing where you make I a stitch and then go back through in the opposite direction. I'm not a fan of knots so I usually do several loop backs or something that will anchor it without a knot
Don’t mind me just learning the blanket stitch for my fursuit 🚶🏻♀️ edit: made this comment when i was 13 and didnt end up making that fursuit, now at 16 im almost done with my first fursuit and am set to go to HDCC :) if you see this comment feel free to reply, you can do anything you set your mind to ❤
Thank you for your clear tutorial. I am having difficulty in remembering tasks which I used to find so easy and was getting very frustrated with my blanket stitching efforts. I think I am back on track now thanks to you.
Today I learned how to blanket stitch in my stitch book but not on a page-edge yet so hopefully by the end of today I'll have the edging done. Blanket stitch is pretty easy once you got the technique so I can't wait to do this for my stitch book.
Thank you very much for making this video! You didn't make a long intro, just straight to the tutorial and the tutorial itself is very explaining and clear! Thank you :>
Thank you! I had bought flannel fabric instead of fleece today. I don’t have a sewing machine. I was trying to find a way to make a baby blanket with my flannel fabric.
Thank you so much! This was just what I needed to learn and because of your clear, easy to understand instruction, and easy to follow video, I was able to pick it up right away!
I have just learnt how to blanket stitch for my class work and i need a bit more practice because mine was not the best but your video was really helpful. Well better than my mum's explanation!
I got a plushie kit for Christmas, one of those that have the pieces pre-cut. It calls for this stitch and I’ve had no reason to use it before now and the instructions were absolutely awful. Thank you so much for being so clear and helpful!! ❤️❤️
Hi Maggy, I've looked at a couple of your RUclips videos on hand stitching, and I have to say that I'm really impressed with your expertise on sewing and also your ability to transfer that knowledge to us so easily! I'am a 69 year old male that has a sewing project to perform. I need your expert advice. Mind you, what I know about sewing you could fit in a thimble(get it?...thimble...LOL!). Anyway I would really appreciate your advice. I'am going to make a thermal cover for my Coleman camp oven to increase its thermal efficiency. The oven is basically a metal box that you would sit on top of a camp stove over one of the burners. The burner would heat up the inside of the box so that it performs like an oven. So here is what I plan to do: I have a welder's blanket that I would cut to shape to cover the top and sides with an overlapping flap for the back side. It would then be just a matter to sew the two back left and right corners together to the sides to make the thermal cover(I even bought Kevlar thread-heat proof). The welder's blanket is like a thick soft felt(3/8" thick). I plan to butt the back flap up against the side material and sew it together thereby completing a cover for the top, sides and back of the oven. The front of the oven will remain exposed. My question is: What type of hand stitch would you recommend? I was thinking the "blanket stitch" would probably work if I pushed the needle through the material at the very corners of the box. I'am open to any suggestions that you might have even if it means using another type of stitch. Thank you in advance for helping an old man with sewing....};-) .
My kid was asked to make a Blanket Stitch and you have wonderfully demonstrated it. Absolutely wonderful even I want to try it now... Thank you very much

Woohoo that makes me so happy!

As a hobby horse maker, this is an extremely important stitch for me to learn. Thanks for making it so simple!
Thanks for the easy instructions and video. Love how you started the video with the first stitch and explain as you go. I have stared at countless tutorials and it hasn't clicked. I finally feel confident enough to finish an applique project I started years ago!

Thanks for making this video! I’m using it to make valentines for my coworkers this year. I hope luck follows you through life
Quick tip… Use a piece of masking tape along the bottom to keep your stitch length even, using the edge of the tape for a guide.
Thank you, good tip!
It's 1am rn and u saved me from getting in trouble in home ec bc I needed to blanket stitch a LOT

How do you finish the stitch?
I was wondering that too
