- So what did Victorian sportswear look like?
I'm replicating an original Victorian 1890s gym suit from @metmuseum (The Metropolitan's) collection, for an Olympic themed ball set in 1896.

I do like the whole video and I think this outfit is very cool, but I truly cannot tell you how much I loved that intro.
In that case, I have fulfilled my life’s purpose! 😅 chocolate anyone 🍫?
Yes, please!
That was definitely my kind of workout!
😅❤️
I love how that sash is like, the opposite of practical gym attire
😅
That opening sequence was giving me horrible high school flashbacks, 1982, and the gym teachers decided to just plonk us down in front of Jane Fonda. If I had had the nerve, I would so have been the kid with the giant bar of chocolate and a book (1982, remember), but as it was I just lurked as far back as I could and did as little as possible.
I’m sorry for bringing up bad memories 😅
🤣🤣🤣 one thousand percent worth the wait, girlfriend! The opener was hysterical and way too relatable!
Haha glad you liked it, and stuck around❤️
Fabulous. Plus it's fabulous to see you making videos again. Glad you're back. Have fun at the ball.
Thank you for sticking around❤️ stay tuned, next video will be the ball vlog😅
If I had such a lovely outfit, I’d be inspired to actually work out!
Hahaha it does help I can say😅❤️
This is such a cute outfit!! Not exactly what I think of when I hear "Ball gown" but appropriate for an Olympic theme, certainly!
Thank you 😊😅❤️
So *that's* what I'm doing wrong when working out. Must have more chocolate. This outfit is adorable. You will fly around the floor in that at your Olympic ball. Thanks for sharing your creation.
Haha thank you ☺️
Bruh!!! The beginning of this video... you’re 100% my spirit animal lol
😅❤️
Super cute and that intro was hilarious!
Thank you 😅
Amazing and gorgeous costume and a great video Nikki!
Aaaah thank you my love!! Let’s work out together sometime😅
I've been OBSESSED with victorian gym suits so this was a blessing 😭
Aaaaaaww thank you ❤️
It gives me such a great pleasure to watch you sew. It’s like ballet. So beautiful.
Ahhh thank you❤️☺️
You have the best music with your sewing!
😅 thank you ☺️
I’m so excited that you’re back!!!
Thank you ☺️
You had me laughing so hard (and hooked) in the first 60 seconds. Mix of your title mashed up with Victorian clothing ... especially as (shocking) I remember that Jane Fonda video (in a videocassette!) making the rounds. Sadly -- also remember the amazing new shiny (unfortunately smelly, sometimes) stretchy fabrics.
It turned out so cute!!! I love it!!!
Thanks 😍
What a wonderful re-creation! You did an amazing job!
Thank you lovely ❤️
Absolutely amazing as always, Nikki!
Thank you! That is very kind!❤️
Lovely video! I love all the little details.
Thank you 😊❤️
So great to see you again! Lovely video!
Thank you for sticking around😅❤️
I’m making an 1890’s fencing outfit from the Met! But it doesn’t have that fabulous sash… 😏
Who says you can’t add one 🙃😉
OOOOO that looks so comfy.
Hihi ☺️
Hahaha, the into is big mood xD
🤣🙈🍫
This is an extants I keep going back to. Wonderful to see it recreated ^_^ Where do you get the solid color glazed cotton? I've only managed to find patterned versions :)
Thank you😊 I bought it at the kniphal in Amsterdam
Do we have any idea whether the sash balls serve any utility? I would expect they would just get in the way.
According to The Met “The middy style blouse and bloomers allowed movement and fully concealed the female figure, while the balls on the end of the sash could be used as props in calisthenics.”
But personally I experienced them to be great fun props and excellent punny conversation starters 😅
Imagining a class full of bored young ladies at boarding school attempting to smack each other with these every time the instructor isn't looking, all through calisthenics.
"props". :)
Hehehe🤪😈
Its lovely. Will you be making a special sports corset for it too ;)
No plans currently 😅
Fantastic job. Looks wonderful. I hope the ball goes well.
This is just epic!
Thank you ☺️
Viscose is made out of wood!? Well
I haven't even finished the video, but I have a dire need to know where that Stitch bottle is from...
It’s from Primark 🙈
@@Leeam Love the suit, love the bottle more, I may be a tad obsessed with Stitch aaaand now I'm gonna check Primark

anyone know where i can find the pattern used?
Oh, how I miss Dairy Milk…the US recipe is TERRIBLE. The gym suit is fabulous! I hope you have a wonderful, and safe, time at the ball.
Thank you! Hope you get to taste the good Dairy Milk someday soon❤️
Is it as comfortable as it looks?
Super comfy, except for the shoes, they turned out a size to small😅
@@Leeam Any chance of swapping the shoes? Glad the rest was comfy
