  • Are you ready for the annual ❄️ Winterball at Castle d'Ursel?? Cause we are!!!
Our favorite castle in Belgium was able to hold it's annual ball again, but it almost didn't happen last minute due to new government restrictions.
Dance Master Lieven Baert, guides us through the turn of the century era, with beautiful choreography, accompanied by a live orchestra.

WOW!! The dances always look so hard. You look very pretty in black, by the way. What FUN!

Gosh, especially the ones with the variable tempos! 😮 The bit that really impresses me is how everyone manages to not crash into each other, even when the couples are so close together? (& not always facing in quite the same direction depending on what the pattern being danced is...)

What an event! Everyone was smiling and laughing! It was so much fun to watch all of the dancing with all of the dresses swishing. Your dress was so elegant. I remember there was something you were not satisfied with but watching you dance all I saw was a lovely woman in a fantastic dress having a wonderful time. Thank you so much for sharing your evening.

Cutest Couple in Europe. (I haven't seen every couple in Europe, granted. However, I have a strong feeling about this!)

The only thing I didn’t like about this video is that I wasn’t there. Looks like so much fun 🤩

Kudos to the event organizers for managing things in such a way that everyone was able to have fun and also stay safe! (Apart from maybe a few slipped discs from the tassel high kicks? 😂 Long-legged Melchior definitely had an edge there!)
Gosh, I can see why people of the era were able to eat such prodigious formal dinners... Dancing like that afterwards looks like an extremely thorough workout!! 🥵 I'm very curious as to how long the participants usually practice to learn each dance - that one around the halfway mark (each gentleman squiring two rotating partners) looks especially challenging to perform without collisions 😆

Wow! Going to a Victorian Ball is definitely on the "as often as I can go to one" bucketlist!

So much fun! I love the games and am definitely going to show them to the dance masters for my RSCDS and swing dance groups to see if we can come up with some fun variations. Are there any websites that you would recommend for learning some of the dances you are doing - or international clubs? Would love to be able to attend one of these events in the future, maybe one will be held when I’m next in Europe for a conference or OIDFA Congress, and it would be nice to be able to participate without be dragged around - as happened at my first ceilidh in Pierowall.
