  • Come To A 1940's Fashion Exhibit With Us!
Our friend Birthe Weijkamp who is a fashion curator, dress historian and vintage collector, had her very own exhibit containing fashion from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s at Museum Bussemakerhuis. featuring top pieces from her huge private collection.
The exhibit was part of a local fashion event. As the big finale there was a fashionshow narrated by Birthe. And I walked the runway! Birthe asked me to model for her! Prior to the show, we got a private tour of the exhibit by the queen of vintage herself.

What a great exhibition! How fun to get to model the 40's fashions!

That was spectacular I am often reminded that cars, and driving cars, changed everything about fashion. :)

Fabulous video of the exhibit and the show. Though is it just me or does the title of the show an exhibit sound a bit sexist. I apologize because I'm probably putting my modern American sensibilities onto something historical. And probably the person who came up with the title didn't mean it to sound that way. And very probably it's just me nit-picking.

I agree and I'm dutch, the title echoes the same sentiments (in a polite way) I see expressed by some people (not most people) in the comment section of many videos on the topic of vintage and historical fashion, for example "when women were women and men were men", "back when women didn't dress like (redacted)", "women these days dress and act like (redacted), I wish they'd go back to dressing and acting like they used to."
The title does have that undertone. I'm not sure it was meant that way or not. I'd like to think the people who picked and signed off on the title are not in the vintage fashion community, because if they were they would have been aware of the controversy since this topic has come up many times before and they picked it anyway which suggests they agree.
"Vintage fashion, not vintage values" is something I agree with, as do most in the community, and one of the most annoying things about this hobby imo is the small group of people who continue to inject an undertone of s3xism into all aspects of it. It feels very gross to be complimented on my outfit and that person does so by putting other women down, and assumes I would be happy about such a 'compliment' and assumes things about my values.
