    Thanks, great tips Kathleen! I wanted to know how many tbs were needed for my 32 oz Bodum. Also, learned more about the temperature general rule of thumb for cool down period. So in addition, there's a wait after boiling of 2-3 minutes for green tea. I heard it makes a difference in the type of water you use as well. Glad I didn't burn myself ;P

    I find it helps to steep for another few minutes after plunging; it makes the flavour stronger. I have a metal double walled press though; not sure if a glass one would end up too cold

      Look up gong fu brewing and mei leaf on RUclips, if you really think you like tea, you'll be blown away by how wrong you're likely doing things. If you want to try an exceptional tea from mei leaf, I'd go with the Superior Iron Goddess Oolong. Amazing floral jasmine notes. Their amber gaba is amazing too and very different to the iron goddess.

  • @user-rt4yo3xy4y

    Lol, for Chinese tea, we simply pour out the tea once the pot is filled with hot water, nvr wait for more than 3 sec.
    Btw, u do hv to wash ur tea leaf for the first time by simply pouring the water into the tea leaf and pour out immediately, nvr drink the first batch.

    What was the manipulation with water in the beginning? First hot water into the French press, then hot water into the cup, then hot water from the first French press into the second French press. Where did the water from the cup go?

    So that's why my tea tasted like soap...
    I bought two new flavors of tea from a tea and oils shop. White and black blends. They both say to use boiling water (212 fahrenheit specifically) and to steep for 5-7 minutes.
    I figured it'd be harmless to mix them in the French press. They're both floral blends so what's the harm right?
    They're not even compatible with temps and steep times, and they both burned horribly.
    Thanks, now i know how to do better next time

    1 Tablespoon per 8 oz? Isn't it normally 1 teaspoon per 8 oz?

    • @Frenchpresscoffeelove
      @Frenchpresscoffeelove  7 лет назад

      It's personal preferences. But 1 tbsp./8 oz is recommended. Also keep in mind that a steeping time is very very important. Enjoy your tea.

    • @Kittn_Kat
      @Kittn_Kat 5 лет назад

      I agree with you. All my loose leaf tea instructs me to use 1 teaspoon per 8oz cup. I tbsp would be much too strong.

    • @cheeseandonions9558
      @cheeseandonions9558 Год назад +1

      An average French press is about 1L, which is 3-4 tea cups. But unless you're making tea for 3-4 people, it's better to use about half. That way the tea won't overbrew and taste like crap.

    Why can’t you use the same press for coffee and tea?

    • @papa_squat
      @papa_squat 2 года назад +1

      this comment is old, but perhaps this response will answer you. Mixing coffee or tea leaves a residual flavor in the container. Considering the differences in the flavor profiles of coffee and tea, you will taste them if you do not THOROUGHLY clean the french press between using one or the other. As coffee and tea are very different, you will never get quite the right taste if they share the same brewing vessel. They will taint each other unless you spend a significant amount of time cleaning the vessel every time you use it between switching from tea to coffee. Considering that even heavy cleaning with soap can change the taste, it's a lot of hassle. However, if the crispness of taste does not really concern you, then don't waste your money on both. This is probably more for people with a particular taste for things.
