Very helpful, thank you. I'm starting to get more comfortable with FreeCAD thanks to tutorials like this. Like all software it has its idiosyncracies, but it is clearly a very powerful and versatile tool. I'm going with FreeCAD because I want to answer "no" when asked if I'm running Windows 10 or 11. Running on Zorin with no problems. I'm using FreeCAD for 3D printing and woodworking. I've been using CAD since Noah was a lad, I was very proficient with CAD in the days of DOS, so I'm not learning from scratch, but unlearning and relearning. These tutorials would suit people like me and total noobs. It's not easy to strike that balance. Well done!
FYI: Freecad 0.21.1 does NOT have the Image workbench. Use File>Import to bring an image in, then you will get the tools shown for the image workbench.

@@Adventuresincreation I'm in sketcher and have a square. I have all the values in a spreadsheet. E.g length 50 and width 50. In the sketch I see also for length and width 50. Now I change both the 50 in 60. The values in the sketch stay 50 and 50. They will change if I activate the values in the sketcher. In the Part design and I chage the values in the spreadsheet the values in the square change real time. So the question is: when will the values also change real time in the sketcher. At about 10:15, when I do the Cut operation I get an error "Boolean: Result has multiple solids. This is not supported at this time." I've tried this in versions 0.20, 0.20.1 (the current version) and 0.21 (weekly build). The Fuse and Common operations work as expected in all 3 versions. UPDATE: In my initial attempt, I didn't pad the hex sketch enough to 'stick out' of the edge of the circle. I enlarged the pad such that the hex ended about half way from the edge of the circle to the end of the rectangle and the cut worked.
I am really enjoying these videos. Back in the early 90s I worked for Kimballs and majored in computer drafting . It has come so far since then . We had a version similar to Autocad that Kimballs had made . I'm going to go all through your videos and refresh my love of drafting . Thank you for all the time you have put into this . @@ronaldcrowder404 You can definitely use FreeCAD for engraving, there are some other applications that work well for that too. It depends what you want to achieve.

Thanks for the video. The basic idea makes sense. But it's a little unclear how you would best refine this to get a nice final shape that matches the plane as closely as possible. Would be interested to see how you would actually do that. Any possibility of creating a video showing that? Boolean operations are interesting but would only be really useful if you could refine without tons of work. Would also be interesting to see the difference between using the refined boolean approach vs trying to create the model directly without using booleans. Would be interested to see these processes compared with each other. Thanks.
You would probably want to use the curves workbench, honestly if I would modeling something with lots of smooth curves I would use Blender, create the STL then dimension FreeCAD. You can create curves in FreeCAD but Blender is designed for that type of modeling.
Is there any way to modify one of the secondary bodies and have it change the final boolean besides deleting the boolean, changing the secondary and re-doing the boolean?
is there anyway to place bodies accurately for bollean opperations or do just create a sketch which incorporates all these aspects and separate them before bollean. funny how freecad does not use the standard naming for such opperations like difference, intersecting and union but its own terms

Had a problem with the objects. I'm using Linux so I don't know if it is a bug. I could not get the rectangle to pocket so the cylinder had the circular cut out. Any suggestions
I haven't tried this on Linux and am traveling at the moment so not able to access my Linux machines. I think the version should be feature compatible but I can't confirm for a week or so.
Very clear lesson. I guess when tracing you can just trace half the the plane and then use mirroring functions to generate the matched other half for a truly symmetric result. Many thanks!

The Image Workbench is no longer included after version 0.20.
Its functionality has been integrated in Std Base. See Std Import and Std ViewLoadImage.

Finally I was able to understand the Boolean operation.
I am glad it helped you to understand it. Once you grasp the concept it is very powerful especially if you are creating "internal" geometry.

The images should be the same scale if you want to produce something close to the part. Of course you could use any image and create a hybrid.

Yes, you should be able to just modify the sketches and the final model will update including the boolean result.

You can use the attachment offsets to place anything accurately, it allows you to adjust x y z and rotation.
If you want to keep both the box and the cut cilinder, say you're building two parts to fit together, make a clone of the box and use that fot the cut
