Thanks for feedback, I appreciate providing additional insight for others. Glad you are enjoying the series. I am planning to redo some of those videos in anticipation of the new version release.
Well I've said it before but I'm going to say it again, "I always find something new to learn from your videos"; even when I think I'm pretty comfortable with the subject matter! I didn't know about using the draft workbench like that, so thanks! Another great video!
One of the most sanest and simple ways of explaining the entire design sequence (actually a darn tricky thing) for me, personally a 'part design' was a catch. Thank you!
Very well the background, go, slowly and exactly. I am not a beginner person but I saw a lot of tutorials and you did very well. Thank you for the lesson.
I think you should be having a LOT more views, but I have a new theory on that. Your videos are so informative, people only need to watch them once, then they spend the rest of their free time working on FreeCAD.
I'm back six months after I watched these the first time and not using FreeCAD in all that time. It's easier the second time through. These are wonderful, informative and fun (a 3D airplane!) videos. :)
Not sure if I've already said thank you for these so I'll say it again. Thanks! I've been able to create some pretty complex parts already... just from your instructions. Neat tip: if you are over a value in the left model panel you can hover over it and use the middle mouse button to increase or decrease the value. Keep up the great videos!
Many thanks for this tutorial. The clincher for me was explaining that the hole had to be in a new sketch. Fundamental to some, to me not so. Thanks again.
A quick way to re-orient the model is to use the 6 blue cube icons below the WB selector menu. Each cube selects a different face: top, bottom and the 4 sides. You can also use numeric keys 1 to 6
I'm back! :) still working on my bladeless fan first project..almost done really just need to make it printer happy and here to look into making objects follow a path.. love your videos man!
It can also work the other way around, you can transfer a sketch from Part Design menu to the Draft menu and you can use a sketch of the Part Design as a path in the Draft menu. Because I am able to draw easier in Part Design menu than in the Draft menu. (Kipróbáltam, és fordítva is működik. A Part Design-ből át tudom vinni a sketch-et, és azon is meg tudom csinálni a vonalvezetést. Ezért azért jó nekem, mert a PD-ben, könnyebben rajzolok. Ez a fekete vonalakkal még barátkozom :) )
Awesome video sir. Quick question. When you created the new sketch for circle, your padded rectangle disappeared. Mine still shows. What am I doing different? TIA.
Thanks for the videos. I have a problem with path arrays, it seems a bug but maybe I am doing something wrong. I select circle and then wire, then path array. The array is not aligned with the the circle but it is traslated from the original circle. If I change the counter and then return back with ctrl Z it returns to the correct place. I am using 0.19 version.
The path you sketched showed a number of explicit corners. The circles on that line are placed at equal distances, so did not land on these corners except for the first and last one. Is there a way to have unequal distances between the circles so they are placed on the corners?
I've made an HO scale oil storage tank and 3D printed for a friend that's into model railroading, but haven't been able to figure out how to make the staircase that curves with the tank without sketching and padding and reposition each individual step, if there's a simpler way could you show how?
@@Adventuresincreation Oh, thank you so much, I've stumbled my way through making things but there are times I get stuck trying to figure it out. Going back through your videos has helped many times.
I am doing a part that requires a pentagon, hexagon, and octagon centered on a central hole. I am able to sketch the part and get a polar pattern for one of the shapes. How do I get each of the other shapes to show correctly on the padded part. If I add addition sketches the end result seems to tear apart. ??? thanks
When you create the polar polar pattern you can use the dropdown to select a reference. You can select any valid reference including a datum line that you have placed wherever you want it.
What is happening when I open Freecad and nothing comes up, no start screen or straight into part design and all my tools are missing? What causes this?
@@Adventuresincreation First, thanks for your response man. Really appreciate. Regarding my issue, not sure if it's due to the fact the body I'm trying to transform is from a sketch that I padded, and from a datum plane I created. Great video again, thank you.
Just a note for others learning, at around 15:30, you need click on the blue hash icon - turns on Snap To Grid :)

@@Adventuresincreation Sounds like a wise idea. Some of the icons and other things have changed now :)
Thanks again.
Thanks!💯 The pattern along a path was the missing information I needed to make a set of holes along an eccentric circle.
Thanks!

I agree. There is always some little tidbit that gets demonstrated that expands my knowledge. Fantastic video series.
Some of the best tutorials out there ..
Thanks Tom.
Loving these clear and concise well spoken tutorials! Very professional! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💯

Fabulous!

Another great tutorial. If I needed to make a matrix of holes, would you suggest a compound pattern? A pattern of a pattern? Is that possible?
It depends on what the matrix would look like, you could do a linear pattern and just replicate it
Awesome video sir. Quick question. When you created the new sketch for circle, your padded rectangle disappeared. Mine still shows. What am I doing different? TIA.
It's a setting, I have changed mine so it doesn't disappear now. You can always switch it on and off at will.

That sounds odd. I am not near my computer at the moment. Perhaps, a Google search can tell you if others have the same bug 🐛?
I also have the same problem. I though I was doing something wrong.

Not in a polar pattern. Create one and play with the parameters

I am sure you could do something with a "pattern" are the steps in a spiral? Do you have any details (maybe a picture) of what it should look like?

As long as the subsequent sketches result in a solid part, you should be able to just create a similar sketch for each shape.
Thank you I did get it work for me. A lot more to learn for sure. Videos like yours do indeed help out. Cheers from Canada
How do you edit the size of each hole after creating the Pattern?
It's a pattern of the same hole
How would you anchor the polar pattern around a point that is not the origin?
When you create the polar polar pattern you can use the dropdown to select a reference. You can select any valid reference including a datum line that you have placed wherever you want it.

I am not sure why, I don't block anything
What is happening when I open Freecad and nothing comes up, no start screen or straight into part design and all my tools are missing? What causes this?
It seems like you do have a ghost!
Anyone here have idea regarding error "transformed shape does not intersect support"
I suspect that means one of your transformed shapes is out on its own not hitting the main body so the model would be in two parts

Bwaaahhhh 😂
Ok, under view, toolbars, everything got un-selected, really? Must have a ghost?
That is very odd. I have never had that happen.
