Phil, I was lined up next to you in the first heat. This was my first cycling event ever and I had no clue who everyone was. I got absolutely smoked but had a blast regardless. Ended up googling my competition after the fact and found your channel. That led me to your books; finishing "Ask a Pro" now. I'm inspired to get better and enter few races in the next few months. Goal is to not get dropped by you in the first 10 seconds at next year's hill climb so you better come back to do this event again. Thanks for all of the content.

4:48 everybody has an Oakland break in story. When going to Oakland, don't take anything that you can't carry with you. the trick is to take out your valuables and to simply leave your car unlocked. they'll sift through your car and move on; it saves you from replacing a window.
You should come over to the uk and do a hillclimbing season (check out bike radars series they have at the moment).
It's really cool to see your take on this event compared to VC and NorCal cycling.

No comments about the new carbon seat. I haven’t got the ism but I have a carbon seat and if I’m not seriously putting power down it’s uncomfortable. What’s the secret? Probably lose any excess body weight...
I've ridden 4 bare carbon saddles and only 1 of them was comfortable regardless of effort so it has more to do with shape vs padding.

I'm friends with and raced with Johnny here in TN and I just have a personal pet-peve about how so many people are "national champions" and forget to qualify a division or age group.
