      nah most sports like soccer and baseball holds a lot of old head goats too, it's just so different because for all those 20 years he hasn't deteriorated as a player. you could say it's just genetics but even genetics can't keep you giving it your all for 20 years in a sport that requires all aspects of your body and mind to be top tier at all times.

      @@kwoo6925 very very few athletes have dominated for 20 years. Messi, Ronaldo, Djokovic, Nadal, and some others are examples of athletes that have dominated for about 15 years. 15 years is crazy, but even then those guys had peaks and valleys, and generally had about a 10-12 year span where they were at the absolute top. Lebron is a freak because he has literally been at the VERY top for 20 years without (really) declining. I cannot think of a player that has been the best of the best since 2003, except maybe Tom Brady (but his position isn’t as athletically depended). Lebron is a freak of freaks

    Michael Jordan has 6 championships as opposed to Lebron James’ 4 championships. Jordan has 6 final MVPs while LeBron has 4. MJ has 10 scoring titles to Lebron’s 1 scoring title. Michael Jordan has 5 MVPs, while LeBron has 4. Michael Jordan is also the only one of the two to win Defensive Player of the Year (winning it in 1988)

    I’ve literally watched Lebron’s ENTIRE career including his high school games! His first NBA Game against the Sacramento Kings was on my Birthday 10/29/2003. I remember watching that game and I told my cousin, “he will be one of the greatest” To see him still be just great as the day he entered the league and be in the conversation as top two (for me he’s number 1) … it’s insane! He’s dedicated his Entire life to the NBA and has done it with style, sheer talent, and grace! When this man finally says he’s done, it’s going to break my heart!     Brett Favre was the toughest QB ever and his streak of games will likely never be broken. But longevity doesn't make him the GOAT. James is most dominant player of his era, no question. His longevity plays a key role in his stats. But James was a choker in the playoffs until it dawned on him that he lived in the era superstars could form their own teams and that was the only way he could stop choking in the playoffs and finals. He has stats to back up and confirm his greatness, but Jordan is the GOAT. No one owned the game the way Jordan did. No one.

    Kareem had 6 rings, 6mvps, and scoring leader. Barely anyone (like 1%) had Kareem as their GOAT. Lebron had a 4yr head start, took 1600 more free throws (1172 points or equivalent to an extra 800fgas) to pass Kareem. Also, played his whole career in an era attempting to boost scoring by restricting defense.

      But although most people value longevity, they also value things like winning, accomplishments, accolades, stats, impact etc. And frankly, LBJ only beats MJ in longevity - To most people, that isn't enough to put him over MJ.

Modern science, load management, soft league, genetics, whatever it is, to play on this level for 20 damn years is truly something. And the fact that he has other accolades and accomplishments as well, like multiple rings, mvps, fvmps, etc. Is why he's in most people's top 3. I'm just saying, that to most people, the part where he excels at, and where he is above everyone else, isn't winning, or prime, or stats, it's longevity. Which is why most people have Jordan over him.

    Its not a coincidence that even though he has most points ever no one considers him an elite scoring threat. He couldnt even win scoring championships against his peers and has many holes (worst of which is FREE throws lol). However, if you play long enough (despite accumulating injuries and missed games), change your game (eg, play less defence) and can score consistently (like Malone, Kareem etc) you will be able to compete for the longevity stat that is the highest total points.
