I can’t thank you enough!!!!! I decided to completely change cottons, big mistake ‘cos the cotton I’d purchase were sooo course. Thanks to your video I managed to re-thread🥰🥰 my serger without any hassle. The other rubbish cottons gone straight into the bin👍
Thank you so much for this video tutorial. I was dreading starting to use my overlocker because I stupidly listened to other people saying that "it's too complicated" but you made the process so easy and it gave me a boost of confidence that I can never repay. So, I subscribed to your channel and can't wait to keep on learning!😊
I thought I had real problems with my machine due to loopy stitches, but no, it was a case of adjusting the looper tensions. Thank you so much for the simple explanation. It has helped me conquer my fear of my overlocker. 🖤
Amazing, so glad we can help! It's so nice to hear that as overlockers can be really daunting! You just have to stick with these things, once you know the problem you'll know what to do the next time!
Thank you so much for this video..best I’ve seen! I’ve got the brother 734ds and it seems pretty much the same. I tried to thread it the first day I got it…very frustrated especially as my eyesight isn’t brilliant…always worry I’m going to break something! ….so walked away and came back to it today it’s working 🤞hurrah! It was great to have a through but straightforward run through. I got a dvd with the machine..but don’t hair w DVD player! I actually think it will be straightforward to use, but will come back to your helpful video!
That is super nice of you to say! Thank you very much! As overlockers go, it is one of the most user friendly for sure! No one has a DVD player these days, I assume that they include it for legacy purposes (just because they always have). It's a lovely machine and I'm certain that you'll get the hang of it in no time!
This video could have been so much better without the music. It is really difficult to hear the speak, which is too bad because I think you show a lot of useful things.
Hey! I'm glad you found the video useful! I'm actually the editor of the videos on the channel and I'm still very new to editing, thank you so much for the feedback and try to fix this in future videos! I'm sorry for that! If there is anything else you'd be interested in seeing Rachel cover, feel free to let me know too!
@@SewingMachines_UK I also agree with Anette, very low key music in the background, or better still, none at all, thank you very much. Loved the tutorial, it showed up a fault on my machine - my guide for the needles, which sits just under the brother sign is missing. I thought there was something missing but couldn't put my finger on it - have now though. Sad to say
Hey! Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad that you managed to enjoy the video in spite of the music! I'll endeavor to tone it down a lot in my future edits as I understand that people find it distracting. Again, thank you for taking the time to give this feedback and I hope you enjoy our upcoming videos!
Hello I have been trying to use a viscose it is a silky handle fabric , I have re threaded the overlocker and played around with both loopers but I just can’t seem to get it correct . Any ideas for settings you’d suggest ? Many thanks x
Hi! Slippery fabrics can be quite tricky! Try adjusting the differential feed. For thin fabrics, brother recommend between 0.7 and 1, this dial is also located on the right of the machine, towards the front. Some people say that pulling the fabric taught as it feeds through the machine can help quite a lot, followed by a quick press by an iron. Perhaps you could try a new needle, if you're using a 14 then try a 12 instead. It really can be quite a lot of trial and error. Let me know if this helped at all and goo luck!
Hey Sonia! I would check the quality of your thread, to start with, we always recommend a known brand such as Gütermann or Madeira. As simple as it sounds, this can cause an issues. If you're using great thread, perhaps unthread your machine completely and follow the video step by step and use the same settings as Rachel. the smallest mistake in the threading process can sometimes have a knock on effect! Try replacing the needle too, we always say new project new needle! It's surprising what kind of issues this can cause. If you've had the machine a while or just use it very regularly, it may be an issue that could be buffed out by a simple service, if you're local to us, feel free to give us a call! If not, get in contact with your local sewing machines repairs company, as it may be a fault. Any repair shop worth their salt will give you a free estimate and should be able to tell you at first glance if it is a fault with the machine. Good luck Sonia!
Hey, It is definitely suitable for a beginner as it has easy laying tensions (just pull it between the disks), it's very easy to thread due to colour coding and it has easy lower looper threading! Can definitely recommend it!
Hey! The strechier the material, the higher you'll need to set your differential but also, low differential can be good for thinner fabrics . I can't tell you for sure what will be best for your specific material but I recommend just testing different settings on your machine with a test piece of the fabric you want to sew and check the result. If you're getting gathering, try lowering it and if it is pulling too tight and stretching, increase the differential.
Hello! You need to take it to your nearest Brother authorized dealer and get them to service the machine for you as they'll catch any issues. If I was to say with no other information, it could very easily be the foot control that is broken as the board in those can go sometimes (even with just a small drop ect) resulting in what appears to be your machine not working exactly as you stated (but I can't be certain)! Good luck!
I have threaded the machine as stated. It works for a while and then the lower looper thread keeps snapping. I am sewing with a lawn type cotton fabric and have tried the tension dial on 3 & 4 but still happening. Any tips?
If you've had your machine for over a year without servicing then I would perhaps try getting it serviced as well as checking the quality of the thread that you're using, as it may not be up for the job (try it with a good quality thread on some scrap fabric). If none of that works, then maybe try new needles and ensure that they're the right size. Hope this is somewhat useful, I wouldn't know without seeing it exactly what the issue is. Feel free to get in contact with us if your based in the south east of England by chance as we can look at it for you!
I believe the 1034D is both discontinued and a US model, so I'm not really familiar with it, I'm afraid. I assume that it is just an older machine range, so it is probably comparable just a little less modern.
Hey! Sorry, it's not possible to change the video at this point sadly. As the segment was filmed in one take, it was more to show the way that the mechanisms of the machine worked and how this interacted with the fabric; rather than get a perfect sewing result.
The camera needs to zoom in so we can see the threading and the narration needs to be slower so we can follow the threading and the explanation together.
Thanks for your feedback! I've toned it down a lot in my edits as I understand that people find it distracting. Again, thank you for taking the time to give this feedback and I hope you enjoy our upcoming videos!
The music is completely unnecessary in instructional videos with the voice over, especially when you cant even hear what is being said. Could have been a very useful video if not the music.

A few of the threading steps were completely blocked from the camera and for most of the others the camera was too far away so it was impossible to see what you were talking about. The only thing that was clear was the tension bits. Also, the music was WAY too loud! 😱😖🤨 Such a shame...
Why the need for the background music at a slightly higher level than the woman mumbling all the way through the video? She doesn't speak particularly clearly as it is, the loud music is so distracting for anyone trying to focus on what she's saying.
Hey! Sorry about that. This was really early on in our RUclips journey. We now have microphones and lights ect. I'm afraid we didn't know better at the time, and we aren't able to change it retroactively. I hope you got something from the video in spite of this. I would say that, in Rachels defense, it's the lack of microphone that is to blame, I don't particularly agree with your critique of her delivery.
Haha, I love that analogy. I end up replying to comments like this on this video in particular all the time. It's not something that I can change post upload, but is something I have fixed in more recent videos. Sorry for the casino lift vibe!
