Why in the world does this not have more views? I've been searching all over RUclips for ways to beat the backlog and this another in-depth one that needs more people to see!
GOG Galaxy, HowLongtoBeat and the always trustful excel spreadsheet. After 3-4 years of battling my backlog, I have only 80 games left to end it (adding more than 500 games to the "never gonna play" category helped a little bit). I can almost imagine me buying a game again or reading the books sitting on my shelves for 10 years (my 2nd backlog, much smaller enemy).
I also have a book backlog... and a board game backlog... and a movie backlog... we just started a game of backlog golf on our discord server and that has been super helpful for people. Best of luck!
I used GOG, but with my current library it was lagging, and decided that I wanted even more customization. Then I started a google sheet, EXTREMELY detailed backlog, and it is absolutely perfect for my needs. It not "pretty", but it is SO functionnal and adapted to what I want to track.
I've used HLTB since January of 2020 and the difference it made was huge. Maybe I'm just used to the website at this point, but I don't find it clunky or cumbersome to use at all. You can sort and categorize your backlog in a huge number of ways and I love looking at my game stats. One other amazing benefit is the forums, which you glossed over. There are always interesting conversations going on and it makes beating your backlog so much more engaging because you're not doing it alone but with the entire community.
Love the video. I think GOG Galaxy should accept being THE platform for handling your games and backlog progression, but they are still fighting on Steam and Epic Games ground as a game distributor.
Wow! I just found your channel and it's great! The quality of your videos is insane, and I can't believe that you don't have hundreds of thousands of subscribers!
Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate it. I haven’t been consistent with posting videos and I haven’t had a consistent genre of content, so I imagine viewers aren’t always sure what kind of video they will get. But I do appreciate your feedback!
Glad to hear it, hope it helps! We also have a great Google Sheet in our discord that one of our members put together. People really seem to like that one.
Thanks for this informative video. I've been experimenting with a bunch, but I think Grouvee is probably the best for "gaming updates" and HowLongToBeat is best for cataloging and determining what to play next. This is always changing though. I like the Trello idea too.
@@ChrimChrimbo oh cool. I’d love to see a more detailed walkthru of your Trello board if you were ever up for another video. I bet there’s a lot of thought that went in
@@forkyfork I actually copied it from someone I used to play backlog golf with (which is talked about in a different backlog video I made). I am currently working on a couple videos about why it's so hard to pick a game to play and how to fix it, so stay tuned!
great videos! what we do with some pc friends is similar to the other video (we make a monthly dashboard with which games are you playing, and update if you beat some one) you can join someone if there is a coop game and by the end of the month we make a summary and by the end of the year we buy a game key for the winner
I've made so many spreadsheets at this point. I tend to go back and forth between the tools, but Trello has stuck it out for me the longest. Really have enjoyed using it!
I tried a few of these throughout the years but in the end, I reverted back to the spreadsheet (Google Sheets actually). The least attractive of the options, sure. Also the most work intensive of the bunch, as you have to input the data manually. But it is the most customisable. I can filter to criteria that matter to me. e.g. If I want to filter my games to be "3rd person action games on PC that are compatible with 21:9 aspect ratio, hdr, have surround sound and run with an uncapped frame rate", then I can. For data crunching I use the pivot tables.
I’ve used Grouvee for a few years, but HLTB has way more user data on completion statistics. I can’t recall if Grouvee implemented console game import, mostly because I just bit the bullet and did it manually.
I've been using the Games Track app off and on for a few years, and the 2020 update made it a top contender for me. Otherwise I've used CLZ and Gameye a lot.
I highly recommend stash, I used GG for a long time but it bothers me that I don't have any ways to categorise, for example my "I want to play" by release date or alphabetically, it's also clunky at times on mobile. Stash though is very fluid and flexible, multiple ways to categorize!
Unfortunately, not as far as I know. I think Nintendo is pretty defensive about these kinds of things, so you'll have to do it manually. I'm sure there is some kind of illicit backdoor you could do on your switch to get this data exported, but I know nothing about that!
The games I wrapped up in my backlog recently is for honor little nightmares and hyrule warriors calamity I really want to deal with my backlog but I'm always getting games lol
Playnite is the best launcher I've come across that allows to to aggregate all your libraries together (+emulators) and loads much quicker and never disconnects account compared to GOG
Just subscribed. Great content! I was using Playnite, recommended from another RUclipsr but it isn't helping as much as thought it would, will give a try at GOG Galaxy, thank tou.
@@ChrimChrimbo Thanks! Yeah, I noted that with the right plugins Playnite can become a great experience. I need more time to test some stuff as creating custom lists. I want to divide my games in categories like "Favorite TBS", "Next racing games", "Don't forget that top 20 best simulation and management games from a video watched on 2018" ahahahah
Man, my backlog is so bad that I have to search for ways on how to deal with it. Lol
Hey that's what the video is there for! I hope it was helpful for you.

That's great! Glad that works for you. I like GOG but I've moved on to Infinite Backlog. I know some people that use Sheets and love it too!

TBH I didn't realize HLTB has forums. Good point that I missed. I'm going to look into that now, thanks!
Love the video.

Thanks for the tips!

Pretty much what I do as well.
Another great video for those irresponsible game hoarders! I'm for sure going to use GOG Galaxy.
GOG Galaxy rox.

That's a really cool idea. Also idk why I never thought about a prize as simple as buying a game for the winner. That's brilliant!
I got gog galaxy. Thanks for the video.
Good! I'm glad it was helpful. I have loved using GOG Galaxy.
Thanks! I was starting to create my own Google spreadsheet, but I'll check these out first. No sense in reinventing the wheel. :)

This is way too true. As much as I've liked used GOG Galaxy, it just doesn't format/filter like I wish it could. Totally get it.
thanks for this
glad i could help!
Those all look great! I really like Playnite, it's my favorite tool at the moment.
I love Playnite! I got pretty into it a year ago. Infinite Backlog is where I've landed.
For me the Playlist app really helps stay organized and have less paralysis
What is this? Sounds interesting.
@@ChrimChrimbo IGN playlist app it’s the goat
I just recently started using backloggd and haven't looked back.
I haven’t used it but I think a couple ppl in our discord do.
Subbed. Good work, Chrim
Thanks for the sub! Thanks for watching.
I got my backlog down to like 30. Hoping to finish it in mid 2022.
Nice! We just started a draft so hopefully we can start cranking on ours.
Did you finish it by the deadline?
I’ve used Grouvee for a few years, but HLTB has way more user data on completion statistics. I can’t recall if Grouvee implemented console game import, mostly because I just bit the bullet and did it manually.
I really like the user data from HLTB. Sets it above the rest, imo.
I've been using the Games Track app off and on for a few years, and the 2020 update made it a top contender for me. Otherwise I've used CLZ and Gameye a lot.
OK, Gameye is really cool. I hadn't seen that before.
With GOG galaxy, is it possible to add games that you own in a box, not on Steam, PS network, etc? I missed that if it was in the vid.
I'm not sure, I think you can add PS games, but not xbox?
I highly recommend stash, I used GG for a long time but it bothers me that I don't have any ways to categorise, for example my "I want to play" by release date or alphabetically, it's also clunky at times on mobile. Stash though is very fluid and flexible, multiple ways to categorize!
That's awesome! My beef with GG is that you can't do as much customization as I'd like. Thanks for the recommendation.
Is there any website/app that I could import Nintendo switch & N3ds digital games?
Unfortunately, not as far as I know. I think Nintendo is pretty defensive about these kinds of things, so you'll have to do it manually. I'm sure there is some kind of illicit backdoor you could do on your switch to get this data exported, but I know nothing about that!
I use Infinite Backlog and so far is very nice.
YES. Someone introduced it to our server and people are going bananas over it.
Dude...
You should try backlogged.
I think I’ve looked into it but I can’t remember. Thanks for the Rec!

I'm seeing a lot about Playnite, so I think I'm going to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation!
name of game at 2:46?
