Looking forward to the rest of this series! I picked up "Forgotten Ally" over the holidays - it will be a while before I get to it, but will let you know what I think.
Just watched the new movie on Hulu about this. A must watch if u haven't seen it yet. Thanks for the video. It helped to clear up some of the questions I had about this event in history. 👍
Thanks for watching! I believe you’re talking about the film The Eight Hundred. I also think it was a pretty nice movie but still contained some misconceptions/inaccuracies. That’s actually part of the reason I decided to make this series haha! I’m glad the video was able to answer some of your questions!
Well done again, really well presented, I like the graphics which show the international concession and its proximity to the warehouse, tied in with the photo from the gas tank I can really get a picture of what was happening. I think I said before that I read a book called 'Shanghai', that described the battles around this time, but your videos bring it all together 🙂. I liked the final photo , german helmet clad chinese troops in action and the one nearest the camera looks to have a c96 mauser holster on his side whilst the soldier running at the rear is definitely carrying a C96. Top video, keep them coming and all the best for 2021 🙂🙂
Glad you enjoyed it! The proximity of the warehouse to the international settlement really did affect how the battle played out. At the same time, it allowed for very good documentation of the battle by those in the international settlement, providing us with photos and videos of the battle.
Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed it! The Tibet Road bridge beside the warehouse is actually known as the New Garbage Bridge (新垃圾桥). The old garbage bridge is actually the Zhejiang Road Bridge, which is the next bridge to the east. The reason for the name is due to the fact that there used to be a garbage disposal station/wharf located next to the bridge which was built in the late 1800s. Garbage was brought here from the surrounding areas and placed onto boats in the Suzhou Creek, and that is what gave the Zhejiang Road Bridge its name. In the army 1920s, the old, wooden Tibet Road Bridge was demolished and a concrete one was built. Since it was located so close to the ‘Old Garbage Bridge’, it became known as the ‘New Garbage Bridge’. Thanks for bringing this up! It’s something that I should have included in this video haha. I’ll be sure to include it in the next part! Stay tuned for future videos and hope you enjoy!
Dude, I just watched that uber-dramatic schlock fest "The Eight Hundred", and I gotta tell, you...I like real history a lot more. And you did a great job of telling the story.
@@ExcessiveDripI'm watching it right now. It's 100% Chinese nationalist propaganda. It's still a badass action flick with gratuitous amounts of violence.
Very nice ,I used the same map and queried the same thing as far as boundaries and line of Japanese attacks went, I can only concur with your conclusions.great work
Thanks! I tweaked the original map a little to reflect the actual situation as the original map suggested that the east side was held by the Japanese as well. Officially, the border went through the warehouse or at least a row of shops on the east wall. However, the British set up the barbed wire on Tibet road out of convenience. Thanks for watching!
@@wargamingchina9174 I look forward to it! I have a relatively limited knowledge of the ‘32 battle of Shanghai as what I know is limited to the units involved, situation and conclusion of the battle. Much more general compared to my understanding of what happened in 1937. I do eventually plan to do some in-depth research on the events from 1931-1936 though as I know many interesting things happened during that time. Thanks!

I'm trying to watch the "800" movie but I can't find anywhere I can watch it. I'm in America if that helps
You can try searching the English name “The Eight Hundred” or the Chinese name “八佰”. Hope this helps!

Came here after seeing the movie The Eight Hundred. Nicely done and Any idea why the bridge name is translated into Trash Bridge?

Did they sriously name the bridge garbage bridge at 7:10 ?
Yeah, that’s what people called it back then. Even today, many people still refer to the bridge as ‘garbage bridge’.
