I feel uneasy calling myself an engineer. I’ve been in commercial heating for over twenty years and don’t know a thing about plumbing, so I’m not a plumber. Oftec refers to us as technicians, but nobody in the real world does. I call myself “ The Boilerman” or “ The heating bloke”.🤷🏼‍♂️

I'm commercial too. I get a bit miffed if I get called a plumber and my friends know it too. They rib me all the time. I started off as a combustion engineer on furnaces. After years away from home I got into commercial heating and domestic after. Me personally have no interest in fixing a toilet. Ya not alone pal

An engineer understands the what he is fitting, he will now where to fit it and the regs behind it. a technician will only know how to do certain things on a product without fully understanding

_Engineers_ are graduates. Someone who fixes gas boilers is a _serviceman._ In some countries an _engineer_ has the the title _Engineer,_ like we use "doctor". You may be called _Engineer Smith_ for e.g.

After refilling/re-pressuring a combi system, the air vent cap should be open, otherwise the valve cannot vent air from the system. It can be left open, though after several days, all air should have been expelled. Only close the cap if it is leaking water

Am I correct in thinking the entire housing, with the pump etc, is proprietary to Ideal and therefore extremely expensive to purchase housed replacement partst? I was looking into getting one of these for my own home, but when I saw that design I ran a mile.

If these boilers come mostly with a 10 yr warranty would the parts not be included and never need to know what part is needed (as Ideal etc would send out the part if the gas engineer is willing to do it vs waiting for the Ideal warranty sevice team to survive)

Hi Allen, Hydroblock on this boiler doesn't have a by-pass pipe as in Vaillant EcoTec. Does py-pass make any difference really? And also Vaillant has the diverter valve on the right side of the heat exchanger beside the pump, on Ideal Vogue it is on the left side, does it also make any difference?
