- The Rocky (1976) Filming Locations You've Never Seen Before in 2020 is not just another Rocky Philadelphia movie locations tour. Please join me (Tampa Jay) for it is my turn to "Go The Distance", and bring you a very thorough and heartfelt journey through the streets of Philly. This is the latest update of the Rocky Filming Locations; included, the Rocky dock scene location, where Rocky should of broke Bob's thumb. Also, the location of where the Rocky "Gonna Fly Now" montage running scene begins. At the end, I take my own Rocky run through Philadelphia. I thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy this video. There is much ahead my friends. #rocky #filminglocations #gothedistance #keeponpunching #philadelphia #creed #inspiration #rockysteps #2020 #boxing

My Rocky 2 Filming Locations video ruclips.net/video/2Lho081eqUQ/видео.html
I WANNA THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS ICONIC ALL TIME GREATEST CLASSIC MOVIE 🎥🍿 I REMEMBER WHEN MY DAD TOOK ME TOO THE MOVIE'S WHEN IT FIRST OPENED
I lived in this neighborhood in the early 2000s and learned all these spots from the locals. It's a cool spot.
Running in Philly for some reason is more hard on the legs than any other city I ever lived in.
A Rocky marathon was on today and watching it is such a painful reminder of how good things were back in the 70s and 80s compared to where we are as a country today.
I wish we could go back 😞
I was six years old in 1976. My dad took me to see Rocky with my two brothers. No other movie has ever had the effect that Rocky did on me; before or after. It is by far my most favorite movie of all time. It kind of makes me sad to see the effects time has had on many of the locations, but I really appreciate the effort you took to make this video. I thoroughly enjoyed evry bit of it.
Me too brother. I’m with you 100% on the current neighborhood, & effect the film had on you from a child up, did the same for me. Never could a movie surpass this one in my mind. I’ll post my comments above now.
This is currently the BEST video on RUclips covering the various shooting location of ROCKY.
I lived in Philly from 1962 until 2003 and can attest to the accuracies in this video. Well done!
M Stephens Thank you so much! That is a huge compliment. This was last best weekend I’ve had lately. I had so much fun exploring Philly and making this video. I’m happy you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for watching.
I agree. Best vid for rocky locations. I’ve watched plenty. You hit those sites I’ve been curious about and no one else has shown. Especially the construction site. That spot will probably never look the same after this year and at least you caught part of it.
I noticed that rocky and adrian are taking social distancing seriously
Philly is a crap hole. Nothing but garbage and crime.
How old is Micky's Gym, the building? It looks like it could be from the early 1800s or prior.
What I love about Americans.....Whether they are Rich or Poor, living in mansions or dumpy little houses, they are so, so proud to fly the Stars and Stripes, the patriotism of Americans is very impressive!
Never lose it, America, you really are the hope of the world!
Thanks for a great video, friend...Well done, awesome!!
Thank you my friend
Yes I’ve noticed that and I live it too!

It is with such great honor and respect to be able to present to you my weekend experience in Philadelphia. It wouldn’t be the same without you guys! Thank you for watching. Now it’s time for me to rest after that extremely very long run. Yo Philly... I 💙 You!
I love ya’ll too
Thank you William
Nice work on this video. I should be in town in September. I look forward to revisiting these locations
💙you back bro
Thanks a lot for all the effort. You did a great job. I really appreciate this. Greetings from the netherlands.
@@mrdontgiveafuck8402 thank you so much my friend I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it
Legend will never finish! ... Rocky will never die!
Its amazing how things change. Nothing stays the same
Almost as entertaining as the actual movie. And you have the same kind of humble demeanor as Rocky. Well done, sir. Well done. Yo. You did it
Thanks Chris that’s a big compliment glad you liked it
I was there just two years ago, I also visited the locations of the film, I was alone, what a thrill.
That had to be scary to do on your own especially if your not familiar with the area. It’s not a nice area at all.
I want so much
@Clive Roberts amazing
@@professorainvestidora8861 to visit the areas ? They do a tour where you’d be safe if you don’t trust walking in them areas
@@jamesmeehan665 i am brazilian, but want do this tour.
As a young kid watching Rocky for the first time in winter 78, ....I was totally captivated and charmed by the simple story of small time boxer ,..a story of hope, inspiration and dreams ........a film in a million
Sounds just like my first experience watching it too thank you Chris
This is a great video. You put a lot of effort into it. Finding the exact places and viewing angles of the original filming locations and showing us how the surroundings look today is truly amazing. A truly moving way to give us a link to the past.
Hey! Do I know you?
I couldn't agree more man... Cool to see you here!
Thank you man appreciate you watching, and so glad you enjoyed it
That was great. Back in the 80's, I saw the movie as a child and it was so powerfull. I feel the excitement to be there, exactly where it has been shot. 👍☺
Honestly, I don’t know why but this has got to be one of the most entertaining videos on RUclips. It’s amazing how gritty everything was back in 76, and the same grittiness remains today. Outstanding work.
It's worse now to be honest
@@sylviaslydavis405 how so?
@@atribecalledlen3567 look it up
@@sylviaslydavis405 you saying look it up is giving the vibes you never been to Philly before 😂
@@atribecalledlen3567 never been but I watch the news and videos. Some parts are dangerous. Especially some of the Rocky filming locations. Keingston didn't get it's nickname Zombieland for nothing. It's drug invested there, trashy and unfortunately depressing. It's really sad that a lot of these ppl are on fentanyl.
Doesn’t this mean his row house should be protected as historic? The city of Philadelphia should make it historic, give it a plaque or something .
This is what RUclips is for. Thanks bro'
Well a little segment of your video brought back some childhood memories of mine. You showed an old ship as you were driving past it (12:59) and I thought that ship looked familiar. So I looked it up and sure enough it was the ship that my parents and I attended an auction (back in 1984) for it when they were getting rid of the stuff off of it. The SS United States. My family used to have a bunch of stuff from it including a barber chair that sat in our living room. My dad actually was on the local news when he bought that chair. Thanks for showing that little segment. Put a smile on my face. “America’s Flagship”. It was built in my home town at the shipyard where my granddaddy retired from. 🙂
That is so cool I circled all the way back just to get a shot of it. It reminded me of the titanic
Tampa Jay Yes it does look like the Titanic but it is actually bigger. There is a cool little history of that ship. And a group of people that are trying to safe it from being scrapped because of it’s history. Something you maybe interested in looking up.
Tampa Jay's attention to detail is remarkable. He's on point with every window, every fence, every building that Rocky passed by in the movie- as well as locations and buildings many fans either overlooked or never noticed.
Great job!
THIS IS AMAZING
GeoSonic thank you for watching my friend
I agree!!!
👍🤞
17:18 how is that gate still there after 44 years , thats incredible ?.
Because they let the poor peoples without investment
@@jean-sebastiendupont9551 south Philly isn’t poor north Philly is poor, south Philly is middle and upper class
Philly is a Democrat city like most of them. Why are so many buildings run down, trash on the ground, and graffiti? That’s Democrats for you. The current mayor is a Democrat, Jim Kenney. 90-100% of the poor/black areas of the city voted for Biden and gave him the 20 votes and the presidency. He only needed PA to win. I live near Allentown, 55 miles north. Those dummies in Philly just voted for socialism and a return of Obama policies. Next week, on the 20th at noon, welcome to the United Socialist States of America. Why did the USSR have Socialist in its name? Until Gorbachev, they had very little freedoms, no private property, government ran everything, and they were taught to hate the West. And Christianity was forbidden.
No biggie. My familys' home has had the same gate for 96 years
I bet the man himself would enjoy watching this, great work Tampa Jay, I really enjoyed this, thanks for your hard work.
You did a great job on this video! Your passion for Rocky really shows. This took a lot of work and dedication. I love how you show the scenes in the movie when you show the filming locations. I also love this movie and in 1978 I ran up the “Rocky” steps on my high school class trip from Worcester MA. Great memories!
Thank you so much
Wow Jay! I'm so stoked that you did this! The greatest underdog story of all time. FACTS. I love how so many people can relate to the Rocky movies in their own way. Rocky is simply movie magic to me, one of my all time favourite movies too. Some really great finds Jay, you really did your home work. I loved your running montage! Gave me goosebumps! I would so do the same ha. You certainly did yourself and Mr Stallone proud brother.
Thank you brother I’m glad you enjoyed it I had the best time Making this one. Especially the running scene. I muted the audio for the montage but the people in the streets were actually shouting a ROCKY.. ROCKY.. ROCKY as I was running through! lol Thank you dude that means so much to me!!
@@TampaJay Wow! That is epic :O You can't buy that kind of moment. Really happy for you dude.

As a philadelohian suburbs owner for many years ive come to love the film locations of this movie n they get better in time. Although i have seen many in my time i have to say urs is by far the most in depth n hard searched. Congrats on this
Great video. I was 6 years old in '76, loved the Rocky films.
Dude...absolutely wonderful job! Great angles and compilations. Very "Woo-esque."
Good job with the dock, and fencing where the construction is.
You now have a new fan and follower.

Absolutely Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing your Rocky tour with us. It's like being there with sly all those years ago and feeling the spirit of his movie. 🙏
Wow.... The Rocky movies meant so much to me as a kid and their importance grew and grew into my adult life. It was really quite emotional to watch. Well done. You put your heart and soul into leaving no stone unturned and it shows. Thank you for all of your efforts. It has been truly appreciated... Keep moving forward!!! Thank you Sly... True legend!!! Great video Jay.brings back memories of watching this with my dad nearly 40years ago.joined a boxing club 3days later.so inspirational. Big love to you all in US from UK 🇬🇧❤️🇺🇲
Nice job, Jay. Well detailed, and inspecting the locations just the way we do it in real life. I love Rocky, and really appreciated the glimpse you gave of these places, right down to the missing brick! Thank you.
You did a great job and you were very brave to film so close to some of the locations (particularly Rocky's front steps). Sad to see that the pet shop is gone, Lucky 7 tavern is gone, and Paulie's house looks so different. You mentioned that Paulie tossed the turkey in the side alley, however I think he tossed it out back (he mentioned that they did the turkey toss scene several times and someone caught it each time!) It was also sad that so many locations were fenced or under construction, but overall you did a great job providing flashbacks to the scenes you were referring to. When you walked over the bridge to the tavern, is that the bridge that Rocky runs across with the kids in Rocky II? I particularly enjoyed the background you provided running along the river and up the steps. GREAT JOB!
Ruth road(rockys house road) and kensington is peobably the worst place i have ever been too..
Was great to do the gym, pet shop(knocked down)
House etc, but my god it was a death trap.
Came all the way from.england so was worth the risk
@@karl8805 Hey man, how do you mean a death trap? I'd like to visit these locations but I've heard they're not the safest of areas - is that what you mean? Did you encounter any problems?
@@wallsy2010 it was very very drug predominant areas.

Bitten by the same bug as a boy back in 1976, I travelled to Philadelphia 2 years ago from the UK to run the steps. Also visited Pat’s for a cheesesteak. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Lots of respect to you for putting this together…much appreciated!! Loves seeing this!
BRAVO…brother…! That was an amazing time capsule you took us down. I have always wanted to visit there since Rocky took hold of me back in 1979. I was too young to see Rocky. Part 2 was out summer of 79’ & I was 7. Saw it with my friend and his mom, then, convinced my aunt again (who was keeping me one day), then my Dad (on visitation weekend), my mother, then a cousin & his fam, ALL in the summer of 79! RARELY have I seen a film twice in theatres. This one touched my young soul to its core!
I couldn’t wait to see part 1 but this was well before VCR’s became affordable. Movies always came on National TV 3 yrs after their release back then, & I stayed up one night at my grandparents to watch Rocky which hit mainline around the holidays 79 I’m guessing. Never has a movie inspired me so much!
I LOVE the passion you put into this, the lines you brought back to us which went with the locations. TOP NOTCH bro!
If you had had time or ever in the future, I would have loved a part 2; the Rocky 2 locations. The run with the kids before the fight, Adrian & his first home, the hospital & nearby zoo, maybe the meat/butcher job where he pounded meat etc.
Also, the home they lived in in part 5 etc.
Of the Rocky films I adore in order
Rocky
Rocky 2 & Rocky 6
Literally, on Same par with Rocky 2, which I cannot believe I’m saying, I never thought 6 was gonna be good, being 5 wasn’t all the great (but I liked 5
enough bc they were back in the neighborhood). There were many other reasons I felt 6 was gonna over play the series, but BOY was I so wrong! I cont to like it as a spin off with Creed too.
MY FAVE LINE of the ALL; Rocky:
He comes back in the middle of the night to lay down with Adrian after walking down to the right venue;
She wakes, and he says:
“I can’t do it” Adrian “what are we gonna do? “It really doesn’t matter if I get my head split open. Nobody has ever gone the distance with Creed, but if that bell rings, and I’m still standing, I’ll prove to myself I’m not just another bum off the streets”. BRILLIANT DRAMA..that’s Rocky. It’s not a Sport/Boxing film at all, it’s about the hard knocks of life, & rising above mentally 🙌🏻
Great job! That brought back so many memories. Well done sir!
Thank you !
Yo tampa jay you did it 👊🏻👊🏻 👏🏻
I love these kinds of videos. Thank you for this. 👏🏼

This is the best video of the rocky locations on RUclips, I enjoyed this very very much. A massive rocky fan myself I've also been to a few locations of this film also. To bad gazzos street looks so different now, looked the sameish when I went back in 2007. You need to go watch all 5 of the original Rocky movies right now! You haven’t lived until you see Rocky.
Great work. It took a lot of dedication to find some of those places and then put it all together in a video for the fans. Regarding your question of whether Stallone got sad filming the scene with Butkus, I am fairly certain the dog in the film is the dog he had to sell, and as soon as he got his advance for Rocky, he bought Butkus back. If that is in fact the case, he was probably quite happy to film that scene. J$H Wednesday 09.30.2020 8:28 PM
