Fun fact:
There's is a Bleach novel called "Spirits are forever with you" that came before this reveal in the manga were the Author who is a huge bleach fan discovered how Zaraki's power works, when he send the script to Tite Kubo he couldn't believe this author figured it out and even though Kubo wanted to show this reveal himself he was so happy and surprised that he let the author put it in the novel.
That is insane! Imagine figuring out such a crucial plot point beforehand, wow, respect to that novel author
The best part is that it was Aizen who explains how Zaraki's power works. So when Kubo read it must have been like Aizen was telling him "I already know the plot."
What I love about this is that it is proof that while it isn’t ideal, Kubo’s style of writing does work. He likes to leave a lot of things up to the readers’ interpretation, which often results in people not understand the certain aspects of the series on a deeper level and believing Kubo isn’t a good writer. But this shows that it works and that it IS possible to fully understand his work.
And the anime is now expanding upon this style much more. For example, the way the battlefield changes when Unohana activated her bankai makes it look as though the battle takes place inside a giant stomach, which might be a connection to the creature inside her sword that heals people within its stomach.
So the Asauchi basically are blank slates that you imprint on to create a Zanpakuto. Every Soul Reaper has one. Ichigo however never had one this entire time. He was fighting without ever having an actual Zanpakuto.
Now since he has no idea as to who he really is, the Asauchi rejected him. A Zanpakuto IS you so if Ichigo doesn’t even know who he is, he isn’t getting accepted by them.
Now he got sent back to the human world to find out about his “roots”

So Unohana’s Shikai and Bankai have the same name, but either stage is written one of two different ways in Japanese to convey a different meaning. It’s a clever way of reflecting her two lives and personalities.
The way Unohana said "Bankai" is 🔥. She was so cool. RIP to her

@@Jay-eq9gb Nah. Yamamoto already changed from the warmonger he was in the old days. It looks like every time he goes off to battle, Unohana must stay to protect Soul Society instead.
Can we talk about how much of a beast Kid Zaraki was? Not only was this boy able to push a Captain of the strongest generation of the Gotei 13(AKA the most notorious criminal in history) but almost defeat her in battle as well. And the only reason he didn’t was because he handicapped himself and subconsciously thought “Hey if I cut her down now, I won’t be able to have fun anymore.”

I still feel like that was a tad too much for my taste. I wouldn't have minded Zaraki being on her level, and getting the cold feet because the match was close, but to go so far as to have Unohana admit she was inferior was dissapointing to me.

The Bankai was impressive and thinking that the author had it occur only at Muken was much to show how expansive as a "domain" set of property it had, other than that
1. It's a vaporizing/heat of battle which kinda makes the nick of blood property come out (Where the melting comes in
2. It heals off differently than Kido would, should she wish so upon herself or the offender
3.Creates Haemo-slashes
4. It has a sword domain-like effect
About Unohana Yachiru: I always wonder how they would represent her bankai in anime form and studio Pierrot doesn't disappoint !! Minazuki is worthy of a Kenpachi, with his cycle of insane corrosion and healing based on her blood...Glorious ! Next: what insane character developpement, going from despair to joy...the despair to find an opponent to bring her the joy of battle, finding it then despair again when loosing his edge because of her...then the bliss of finding him back and fullfill what she wanted in a glorious final battle...both sad and beautiful ! Love it !

I too cried... This episode was beautiful. First half is one of the best & most emotional battles in Bleach and 2nd half is some of the most fun & cool lore I've had in Bleach. Also, one beautiful subtle thing. Unohana didn't lose to Zaraki. She purposely let herself be defeated by Kenpachi, she deactivated her Bankai so he can kill her. So poetic & beautiful.
She didn't lose the fight on purpose, he is stronger than her and beat her. That fight took the same length of time as Renji and Ichigo fighting the Asauchi. She probably ran out of Reiatsu finally and couldn't keep her Bankai active.

@Dexulosi Someone who loves battle as much as her isn't going to "allow herself to be stabbed," to end the fight. He probably stabbed her way more times but it wasn't until the end that her Reiatsu ran out and she couldn't heal anymore.
@Dexulosi Isshin was holding a thing open, Yachiru was fighting Zaraki lmao. which do you think drains you faster. Plus anyone who watches anime knows you can have entire monologues before someone lands a sword strike so time is meaningless when dialog is happening.

This looked pretty unclear in the anime but unohana's bankai actually DOES melt things, even its own user in fact, but unohana continuously heals herself when using it, and in this fight she was also healing zaraki

@@CloudCollapse for most of the fight it is easier to follow the action in the anime, however it makes it look like unohana's bankai is only blood waves and not actual acid. at least i have seen a lot of reactors thinking this on their first watch of the anime while the ones who read the manga understood that it was her actual ability
For those confused, Zaraki was actually melting and half a skeleton, but Unohana could still heal him.

When this was first released in the manga, I had to reread it a few times because it was so confusing until I was able to pick up that Unohana was healing Zaraki. Glad to see it was better understood here.
Also, side note. Ōetsu Nimaiya had all the male zanpakuto in a different room in butler outfits. Kubo made a quick sketch of in the chapter when Ichigo first arrived on site.
she literally tells you she healing him in the manga as well. but the skeletal scene wasn't actually happening though, that was just for symbolism

Such an awesomely done flow from the flashback to the fight with the most impactful strikes especially Unohana unreleasing her bankai Minazuki that looked so dope with all that bonus action not in manga RIP murder mommy then Oh-Etsu Naimaya my favourite 0 member introduction was so dope and Zanpakuto info was good plus next week such sweet stuff coming gotta love Kubo and his rain
Unohana and Shunsui were always my favorite Squad captains ...episode 10 hit me hard, I was crying with Zaraki 💔Seeing her Bankai was legit... I wish that we got to see the full power of it though, it was too short lived.

now i know why they're making an hour-long finale episode. Ichigo's parent's backstory is quite a long one i think. and they wanted to have it properly adapted. it'll also be an emotional one at that so they may want to make it dramatic and impactful.
and this episode makes the zanpakuto rebellion arc so much more interesting

kenpachi reminds me of hiei from yuyu hakusho when he was a kid he was an A class demon maybe even close to S class but when he got the jagan he became weaker but every battle he fought after that he became stronger and mukuro is like his unohana kinda funny

Rain in bleach has quite a symbol. Where ever there's rain there's sadness. The biggest plot twist is up ahead. Bleach is like a poem not everyone can understand.

Clarification: Kenpachi really did melt in his fight against Unohana's bankai. Unlike her shikai, which has the same name as the bankai aside of the way it's written and what the word means ("Flesh-Drops' Gorge" and "All Things' End"), which uses MInazuki's stomach acids to heal the wounded, her bankai has a different special ability. The liquid released by her bankai functions as an extremely strong acid that can reduce the enemy to a skeleton within seconds. But she kept killing and healing Kenpachi to break the mental block on his power

So the main thing to take away from that flashback is that Kenpachi made Unohana feel...like a virgin.
But for real, there is definitely some romantic subtext in the way Kenny and Unohana talk about each other. Makes sense that two people who love fighting more then anything, would experience the ultimate joy in finding the greatest opponent.

Personally I can't wait to finally hear Shunsui call his bankai. When they had him voice it for the Brave Souls game it was the coldest call I've ever heard. You could feel his intent to just cut down everyone before him.
Zaraki has spoken to his zanpakto many times I’ll say no more than that
12:01 Asauchi aren't "swords before they become Zanpakuto". They're like blank sheets of paper for the Shinigami to draw on with their soul and Zanpakuto spirit. Before the spirit imprints itself on the sword, the sword is still a Zanpakuto (which means Soul Slayer btw). The more time they spend training together, the stronger the imprint will be on the Zanpakuto and the stronger the Shinigami will become. The Zanpakuto spirit is with the Shinigami since their birth. Hitsugaya Toshiro said before that he met Hyourinmaru (his Zanpakuto Spirit, a frost dragon) even before he received his own Asauchi (it's the main reason why he's called a prodigy).
I always find it sad for Kenpachi to have find his first idol, rival, foe...might we say friend who understand his same desire, to finally have it fulfill then losing it forever...At least he now has a new companion to follow him in battle...Am I the only one who see a kind of romantic subtext with their relationship...romance of pure battle ?
you're not the only one, they have both have a weirdly romantic vibe through battling each other.
@@DjuraValtr ive always seen it as a nurturing mother/son relationship not romantic at all. Theres too many parallels that reinforce that type of relationship, The mothers sin, her fulfilling her only true purpose etc..

An asauchi is basically a blank canvas that every soul reaper is given. They become zanpakuto when you've had them long enough for them to imprint on you. You living with them is how you add paint to the canvas, and they are completed paintings when they become your zanpakuto.
Think back to all of Bleach and you'll realize Ichigo never had to do this. He got a fully formed Zanpakuto during his training with Urahara. Now how could that happen?

Yeah. Even though she is a powerful asset, the kind of danger they face is too great. Her ability to heal will not help save the day. That is especially if nobody is strong enough to fight back. Because of the great disparity in power between them and the quencies, they got no real choice but to take huge gambles like this.
