I very intentionally tempered my ego when I saw the video recommendation... ...seems I need'n't've (Seriously though this was a fantastic - and flattering - video!!! Great work!)
ohmygoditshim Uh, hey! How's it going? This video was just a bit of a shitpost, since I just wanted to talk about something I felt like deserved to be talk about more. And I suppose it managed to find the right audience even though I tried to hide the point. Your work is great and I (and many, many other people based on the comments) thoroughly enjoy it. And, unrelated, if you'd be possibly interested in doing an interview, I'd love to work with you!
It's been used to mean that throughout most of history, but originally originally it was whispered into the ears of generals during celebrations of victories as a way of saying "You are not a god. Don't you dare try to shake up the political structure that is in place"
i love Cosmo Sheldrake. the only songs i don't like are the ones that are less than one minute long. nothing wrong with them, it's just not long enough.
Experience with this video was “oh hey this guy would loveeee CJ I should leave a comment suggesting they listen to him if they’ve not already done so befoCHONNY JASH WITH THE STEEL CHAIR!?!?!?!!!?”
If you like Tally Hall may I recommend They Might Be Giants? Their music is crazy neat including their Here Comes Science album which was the soundtrack for an animated kids science program. It’s neat how in each song on that album they take inspiration from distinctly different artists that can be recognized if you’re enough of a nerd. Their other albums are phenomenal with my top favorite song of any of them being Birdhouse In Your Soul. Give them a listen if you haven’t already!
Tally Hall posted a video saying that if they get 30-40 million monthly listeners on Spotify, they will reunite! They’re probably just joking about the number (but hopefully not about them coming back). Either way, I want to bring hype to this situation, and most importantly, to spread the Tally Hall listenership! So please listen and pass on this information!
OMG they might be giants here comes science is one of my favorite albums! of course their cover of istanbull is popular but i also like birdhouse in your soul. They also did the mickey mouse clubhouse intro and outro, a cover of theres a great big beautiful tommorow on the meet the robinsons soundtrack and the piano song in the movie Coraline. I love them. should probably listen through one of their regular albums fully.
bro i thought to myself "ahaha how ironic! those are all people chonny covered but it's probably about why a lot of people happen to like those people, totally unrelated" *IT WASNT UNRELATED* *I HAD AN EXCUSE TO THINK OF REFERENCES MY GOSH FOR ONCE!!!!*
Anyone could make a video about Chonny Jash, but ONLY I COULD MAKE YOU DOUBT THAT A VIDEO ABOUT CHONNY IS ABOUT CHONNY! (But, seriously, congrats on figuring it out from the start! Didn't think anyone would!)
While I did consider framing the video as "This Dude's Making Insane Covers!" so it's a little more obvious that it's about Chonny, I think going the slightly more clickbait route of "here's 4 songs I like, think about them, and, BAM! Surprise, this is a Chonny Jash video!" is waaaaay funnier to me. (Even if I might miss the Chonny Jash fans....) I hope you enjoyed it!
@@Pan.Gamingbelieve me the pattern recognition part of our brains are about 2 times as active as in the normal person, just that group of four songs alone would clue us in
Adding this to the list of things I'm mispronouncing without realizing (and to be honest, I haven't sat down and listened through In Case I Make It in a long awhile. I just took Willard! and left. I'll have to go back and give it another shot!)
@@Pan.Gaming Yes you should! The amount of emotion, beauty, whimsy, and clever writing encapsulated in that album is incredible. Songs like Cicada Days, Euthanisa (a song for me that is personally one of the saddest songs I've ever heard) and Against the Kitchen Floor are some the best in catalogue. It is his best mixed album and I feel is his most real, personal ,and cohesive work. It almost feels more like a folk album at times with songs like falling up and Let's Get You Home (which is another song that is just beautiful.) Its a work that is very different from the high energy of the normal album (which I also love, Marsha is one of his best written pieces imo and is rly good live) and it works for it! okay I hope thats enough of me gushing over "In case I make it" for you to give it a earnest listen.
@@Pan.Gamingas a major will wood fan, I originally thought I wouldn’t like in case i make it, however it’s in my top albums now! I whole heartedly recommend giving it a listen. if you want something more like the originals try ‘the main character’ or maybe ‘cicada days’ but my personal favourites are ‘against the kitchen floor’ ‘half-decade hangover’ ‘that’s enough, let’s get you home’ and ‘tomcat disposables’. But it’s super worth it all the songs are absolutely amazing
HOLY SHIT CHONNY JASH JUMPSCARE I’ll be honest i was so suprised chonny was a topic in this! So happy to see him grow in popularity. Ind tbh I think Chonngs gonna be the music bridge to so many other artists!
He was for me that’s for sure! First i found the moss, which led me to chonnys cover, (and i was hooked) which lead me to tally hall, (i had found ruler of everything before, but hadn’t Checked out any of their other stuff until chonny) miracle music, (which is also tally hall i guess) the handsome devil, and found several other covers of songs i already loved like Rob Cantors Im Gonna Win, which is a song i had found long before i found The Moss. (Which is also tally hall.. if i had a nickel for every time i discovered tally hall, id have three nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happens three times..)
I would recommend you Bear Ghost. They're making similiar to Tally Hall's or Will Wood's music, personaly my favourite their album is Jiminy. I would like to see a video about them!
hi, bear ghost fan as well, may i ask, what exactly is this genre of music? like i know and listen to all the artists we're talking about but i cant categorize this, ive had ppl describe it has, "ominous circus music", "what you hear before you enter hell" and "weird folk" what the fuck is this genre actually? 😭😭
@@pickledjuice101Tally Hall, Bear Ghost, and Will Wood are all under different genres. And Will Wood and Tally Hall’s music all cover different genres. The only thing that really unites them is that it’s ‘weird’ music.
Will Wood's Self-Ish album needs its own breakdown. Each song is so good and they all tell a bigger story of a man spiraling downward. Its my favorite album period. ❤
I could see myself talking more about Will Wood (I mean, he's a personal favorite, along with Zalinki), but I feel like Will Wood has been covered very well by confused Narrator. Like this dude made a whole hour long video about Everything Is A Lot and Self-Ish, and managed to get an interview with Will himself!! Here's a link if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/ARty_vUlmAs/видео.htmlsi=-zDR0OfAqQda5D5R I'm just not sure I could make something as cool as his, so it probably won't happen. (Unless it gets tied into something else.)
i love chonny. his gothic whore album is so fucking good, i cant get over his style mixed with gothic classic novelas. its so perfect and i could just rant about it for ages
I'm just saying that if Chonny covered Simpleflips once, he could do it again. And I really do want him to cover "Break" since it's already a banger. (And sorry about your wallet. It's for a good cause)
I feel like I'm the only one in the comments who HADN'T heard of Chonny Jash, but I'm really glad you took the time to make this bc now I feel like I need to check them out. Most musicians can make a decent cover, but putting your own spin on it like this takes a lot of creativity and honestly, a LOT of guts, both of which I respect the hell out of.
so imagine making a funny little video about a little creator you like, and suddenly, you're flooded with comments, because that little creator's fanbase are like ravenous rats (affectionate) that will swarm as soon as they taste a little bit of Chonny in the water I know he's the point of the video, but like the thumbnail doesn't have him in it??? how do they all know???? anyways, if you do check out Chonny, I hope you enjoy them!
Yeah, sorry... If the video wasn't secretly about Chonny, I would have mentioned Fish in a Birdcage! They're great! Before I started video essays, I was doing montages, and I've used their songs early on. There's all so good! My personal favorites are Four Aces and Angel Tango, but I'm planning on going back through their stuff soon!
The entire first half of the video was an in depth call out of my music tastes and the rest makes me admire the musician and want to listen to his stuff _so I know whats on my to-do list now!_
I'm not sure if you might've already figured it out but, Murders is infact NOT a Tally Hall song. it is from another album made by Joe Hawley, the album's named Hawaii Part ii It does feature a few people from Tally Hall if im correct, but this was made after Tally Hall broke up ( I might have to look that last part up, but 99% sure thays right)
Yeah, I'm not that deep into Tally Hall, but I kept seeing Hawaii: Part II showing up around other Tally Hall stuff that I ended up assuming they were the same group. Which, looking more into it, it was made after Tally Hall broke up, every member but Andrew had some part in it, but it's not Tally Hall. Whoops! My bad,
It was crazzyyy seeing Charlie’s inferno blow up. I’d only know it for about two years before, but it still made me insanely happy and wish people would listen to more the band
(I came here from the thumbnail, thinking "oh hey! I love all of these songs!" and then got absolutely JUMPSCARED by Chonny Jash. Had a heart attack, quite literally.)
I always get jumpscared when I see chonny mentioned anywhere else lol Anyways great video :] I’m not that good at putting my feelings on things I’m enthusiastic about into an eloquent form so it’s nice to hear others do it!
IM SO GLAD SOMEONE FINALLY MENTIONED COSMO SHELDRAKE HES AWESOME I also love tally hall, miracle musical, I kinda like will wood though very selective with his songs, I’ve only ever heard Charlie’s inferno but it’s awesome, and I love Chonny jashes covers. I’m so glad to FINALLY find someone to share my music taste. A new music artist I’d suggest is Jorge Rivera-Herrans, responsible for Epic: the musical and he’s AMAZING
hell yeah chonny jash!!! i saw this on my reccomendations, and i knew it was gonna be about chonny the moment i saw the thumbnail, i’m very obsessed right now. but yeah, i like the points you make in this video, it reminds me of why i actually like chonny’s music so much, besides just the cool sound and covering songs i like.
oh shoot, did someone actually figure it out? and just from the thumbnail? Congrats! I wasn't actually sure anyone would get it, since my 'test subject' (LanCon) only got it after a few guesses. Thanks for the kind words!
@@Pan.Gaming i’m just on another level of brainrot lol, i saw cosmo, thd, tally hall, and will wood and i knew chonny covered all of them so i immediately guessed it, also ur welcome!!!
I recommend Madilyn Mei, if you're still looking for music recommendations. Particularly "Kleptomaniacrow" and "Partner In Crime", both of which I love.
YES I LOVE COSMO SMMMMM- no one I know knows him and he’s SO outside of my usual music taste (usually a grunge and thrash/nu metal girl) he’s been one of my favourite artists for so long and also one of my biggest inspirations in terms of lyrics and music. Wriggle, Come Along, Tardigrade Song, Solar Waltz, Pliocene, and Axolotl are all favourite songs of mine
I love Chonny jash!! They give such a new meaning to cover to where I don’t know if it even count for the original meaning, but I love it. His series following multiple songs by tally hall through his three characters, heart, mind, and soul is again, amazing. “Spring and a storm” by tally hall has meant so much to me and I’ve drawn up tattoo designs with the lyrics that I plan to have done one day, in both versions jash covers, he keeps the “we have so much left to sing” which has always been the most impactful line to me. I love the dissection of their music, because the praise is warranted, but seeing how jash keeps and trades and changes for narrative purposes constantly, but not only keeps that line, puts HEAVY emphasis on it, and covered it twice with two different characters singing, leads me to believe they might have a similar connection to mine to the song. Id love to be Able to make music like that, just to spend time and deconstruct and reconstruct the elements to spend time with the art, he’s such a wonderful artist and I’m glad we get to share his way of re-contextualizing music with the world. It’s so awesome.
I just flat out wasn't expecting to see all of these songs and artists in a single video. Oddly enough, it wasn't even these songs that drew me into each artist. It wasn't even from the same source that I started listening to them! I didn't even register the connection because while I've seen Chonny Jash in my recommended list before, I've never clicked on one of their videos! I think it's just absolutely fascinating that even with how different all of these artists are, a lot of people tend to listen to them in tandem. Wonderful video, I didn't know this was a phenomenon, thank you.
Personally, I listened to all of these groups separately and then found Jash during his early Tally Hall days. But, it's crazy to me that all of them seem to come together as a genre, I guess? I mean some people have suggested the thing in common would be that they're all gay or neurodivergent music???? Which, I mean, I guess???? Simply being gay/neurodivergent surpasses all genres
I was hoping some one would make a video about these guys, their music is amazing to listen to and I even made a playlist similar to this video a year ago. I’m glad to see these guys getting some recognition for their awesome work.
Just wanna say: Chonny’s Good Day cover hits even harder when you know what’s going on in that album and what happened to that specific character Also THAT CHONNY JASH JUMPSCARE AAAAAAAAA
Will say as someone who's been an avid listener to That Handsome Devil, lots of their old albums give that same satisfaction of Charlies Inferno. But in my opinion, feel more thoroughly written. Other artists that have that same vibe if THD are Tub Ring, Grand Commander, Nick Lutsko and just a bit of Jhariah and Shayfer James. All on Spotify, please give them a try :)
not literally 4 songs that have been in my playlists for forever omfg i just saw the moss and was like i wonder what the other 4 songs are on here and its literally just my spotify wrapped 2022
They all have that weird edgy not edgy kinda indie vibe and sound to them. Like THERE ARE NOT A LOT, IF NOT, NOT ANY OTHER ARTISTS THAT HAVE THE SAME SOUND. Each one of them have their own sound but still fit in the same category, they all express the story that they want to express so clearly it’s one of my favorite genres of music
Was watching this in my brothers room and as soon cosmos name was heard he just went “YEAHHHH” out loud. He kept on freaking out because you just listed out all his favorite artist lol.
Oh, thanks for the rec on The Handsome Devil, I listened to them and they're awesome. Jash is great. I found him through the mind electric remake and love what he makes overall. Great musician.
I like to imagine Chonny’s mueic as reimaginings of these classic tunes, seeing as he often flips the entire feeling of the song on its head even if he doesn’t change the lyrics.
AH. These were the tracks I listened to a while ago. And yes my music taste changes constantly. I shall now replay my old spotify playlist. Great video, keep it up!
OMG NO ONE TALKS ABOUT THAT HANDSOME DEVIL 😩🙏 THANK YOU FOR DOING THIS BAND JUSTICE. Id say my taste for that handsome devil came from listening to moss and tally Hall in my youth.
I looked at the thumbnail and I was like "oh haha those are people Chonny Jash has covered" I. May have hurt my leg with how hard I was hitting it when I realized that was actually where you were going with it and I wasn’t going crazy
I know exactly what those 4 songs have in common: They are in my liked songs in Spotify. Other great introductions to each band would be: That Handsome Devil - Savages Tally Hall - Ruler of Everything Cosmo Sheldrake - Come along Will Wood - Laplace's Angel And yeah, seeing how we coincide in music taste I'm definitely gonna give Chonny a listen.
Ooo, so you're one of the few here who finding Chonny out of this! Cool! Part of the reason I recommended the ones I did was to have something kind of popular and then a song I personally really enjoyed! But, even then, all of them have so many great songs. Every single one you've listed here are all fantastic in their own right!
I was so happy seeing Cosmo Sheldrake and Will Wood on the thumbnail!! I was wondering if you’ve ever heard of The Amazing Devil or Fish In A Birdcage? Or maybe Shayfer James? I think one of them at least will be up your alley. I have a lot of recommendations but I don’t often find people who likes that type of music 😭
Hell might as well list a few more. Sea Wolf San Fermin Junie & TheHutFriends Crane Wives Pim Stone (he only has one song but its a banger) Autoheart Gregory and The Hawk Phemiec (specifically their album, songs for girls in love)
damn do i love to see some appreciation to the Music Man! i instantly loved his stuff after listening to the tally hall covers, and it all just grew with each new release. i think I'm just thankful for him for introducing me to will wood. I had never listened to him before, so the will wood power hour was a nice little introduction! :)
I absolutely love your Video essays! I love all of these music creators and I never even noticed the covers. I love to hear ya talk about things you’re interested in, and you make me want to start making video essays. Great job man
Well the good news is that's all I'm planning on doing: Whatever I'm interesting in talking about! And while making video is a TON of work (it take me about an hour of work for a minute of editing. just editing. not script writing and recording.), I think they can be quite fun to do! It's easy, for me at least, to get into an hours long groove of editing. Thanks for the comment!
Saw this video pop up in my recommended and then I looked at the thumbnail and was instantly shocked that all four of my favourite song artists were displayed in it! Not to mention the In Star and Time reference, holy cow, did I not expect that! I’ve seen a few of Chonny Jash’s videos show up on my feed a few times, but never really gave them much thought, I’ll definitely give them a look! Spectacular video.
Crazy to see someone who knew the first four artists and not Jash! And, yeah, surprise In Stars And Time reference! Hey, after working for a month and a half on an ISAT and Limbus Company video, I've got to make a reference to Siffrin somewhere!
Since we seem to have pretty similar music tastes I’m going to recommend my favourite band, fish in a birdcage. It’s a bit different from this stuff but I love literally all their songs. Even if you don’t like it at least you get to check out something new!!!
If this video wasn't secretly about Chonny Jash, I would have 100% mentioned Fish in a Birdcage. I mean the Memeto Mori comparison could have just gone three ways, with Will Wood, Chonny, and Fish in a Birdcage. Anyways, my personal favorites from them are Four Aces and Angel Tango! But I'll have to sit down and listen to all of them, as I'm sure I've missed quite a few.
Listen to Bear ghost!!!! I really think you'd enjoy their music based off the four songs you chose to put in this video. One of my favorite bands and worth the listen.
This popped up in my recommended and I'm so glad it did because even though I've never heard of you, we have such overlapping music tastes and senses of humor that I wish we were best friends. I also took lots of choir and can hardly read sheet music. I wish I could play an instrument besides my voice but it's fun to sing anyway. You're so cool! Keep doing what you're doing even when you're not sure about it, because I can confirm it's amazing!
Oh! Good to see another choir person! Welcome! Yeah, I've always tried to find an outlet for some creativity, and while I can't play any instruments... or paint/draw... or write that well... I think I've started to find something I can do, being making these videos! And, while I do kinda hate how this video turned out, I'm glad for the amount of positive feedback on them! While the views and subscribers are cool (I was right under 400 subs before this video), what really means something is the comments. Knowing that I made something that caused another to go out of their way to say something is amazing! So, uh, thanks for the comment! And I'm just gonna save your for motivational purposes, so congratulations!
I enjoy the fact that you cover nearly every single one of the artists that's been the most formative to my own musical creativity. I rarely ever seen someone cover any of these artists, let alone all of them!
Wow, we have really similar music taste! Back in 2014 I remember there was basically not a soul you could find that had actually heard of that Handsome Devil, even their most popular song wasn't a breakout hit even if I think most of them are absolutely amazing. Its so cool to see it getting more attention, the main singer Godforbid is a real cool guy. If you had any interest in covering their discography I'd watch (or maybe I might do that!)
I honestly know very little about any of the members of THD, but the singer just gives me such a cool vibe. It might be cool to take a look at their stuff in detail! (Or you can do it, and I'll watch that!)
Ok since you have made the offer, I will fight you on it. (note that all of this is with all of the respect in the world, this is a great video) Not only do I think that the normal is not his best album, I would say that it is his worst. To best illustrate we should go through his other albums (also including tapeworms obviously) First of all I’ll talk about about “I case I make it” As and end to his music career it serves as a beautiful, almost epilogue to his career and has such an incredible feeling of finality. Self-ish is his most well put together album (my personal favorite) and it has the most cohesion of any of his albums, with its use of motifs and its flawless management of energy on a track by track basis it is the one I return to the most commonly for a full album listen through in order. Lastly we have everything is a lot. My thoughts on this album are very simple. It has the best individual songs on average that get stuck in my head the most. It delivers banger after banger and has the most varied ideas of any album. What that leaves us with is the normal album. It doesn’t have that It doesn’t have the dramatic finality of “In case I make it” nor the cohesiveness of Self-ish and while some of the songs go hard it doesn’t have a strong of a line up as everything is a lot. To me at least it just doesn’t have any sense of identity within wills wider work and feels like it has the least to say, while trying to cast the widest net. Don’t take this as me not like the album by the way, suburbia is and incredible song, 222 goes unbelievably crazy, and love me normally is some his best work, but the overall package is the weakest. Anyway thanks for reading this borderline insane ramblings and I hope you have a great day.
I appreciate the effort put into your comment! And I'll offer a bit of a rebuttal here, as a Will Wood fan to another. (And as you've said, with respect, if it wasn't obvious.) "In Case I Make It" is the album I've listened to the least because it's such a different feeling, like a somber ending. I agree it's a good send off for Will's career, assuming he's stopping with this album (I am not aware if that's true or not). I think one of the things that one of the things I enjoy about Will Wood is the diversity is his songs, and "In Case I Make It" is a lot of the same. As an example, the first three songs, Tomcat Disposables, Becoming the Lastnames, and Cicada Days, give me the same idea of Will sitting on a porch, playing a guitar, and singing to himself as he reflects. (That is until the loud part of Cicada Days, which is so good.) That's not to say that any of these songs are bad, it's just not what I expect from a Will Wood album. I really only get glimpses of what I want, from the end of "That's Enough, Let's Get You Home," or that chorus bit in "Falling Up." The few songs I do listen to from the album are "Vampire Reference in a Minor Key," "The Main Character," and "Willard!" And of those three, the first is a sadder version of "Yes, to Err is Human, So Don't Be One," and the other two are so different and unique that I instantly fell in love. "Self-Ish" was the album that got me into Will's music, more specifically "Hand Me My Shovel, I'm Going In!". The entire album is a great display of Will mashing completely different segments together, which is my favorite bits. The slow start found in "Self-" that leads into "2012" is fantastic. And the break down that happens like 2 minutes into "2012" is great. I mean, you've listened to the album. I don't need to tell you how each song is like two or three different parts together. I think the only reason I don't put "Self-Ish" at the top spot is because only a few songs give me such a vivid picture. I couldn't tell you what "2012," "Cotard's Solution," or "The Song With Five Names" is actually about, where "Hand Me My Shovel," "Dr. Sunshine Is Dead," and the combination of "Self-" and "-Ish" each paint their own images. (But, that could just be a 'skill issue' on my part.) "Everything is a Lot" as an album feels... boring to me? Each song flip flops between something loud and aggressive to something slower and vocal focused. Most songs let you know exactly what you're going to get from the first few seconds, and they never really take you for a ride. Once again, that's not saying these songs are bad, it's just not what I'm looking for. But my personal favorites from "Everything is a Lot" have to be "Lysergide Daydream," which doesn't initially tell you what this song sounds like in the first few seconds, and "Chemical Overreaction," which breaks down from it's high speed to a slower pace as well as moving to more introspective lyrics. However, I can agree that the ideas that each song brings is very different from the rest of the album. And finally, "The Normal Album" which I've already suggested is Will's best one. And since I suppose I'm defending this, I'll do a little bit for each song. - "Suburbia Overture" feels like a perfect introduction to the album, as Will sets the scene. Even just the first part, specifically "Greetings from Mary Bell Township!," has several shifts pace as well as contrasting themes. It only gets better when we get to "(Vampire) Culture" as we get to see what the people living in the nuclear fallout version of a suburbia feel like. And god, I love how that "Blood!" line comes in each time. And finally settling in with "Love Me, Normally," is as if we're sitting down at the end of the day, staring at the night sky, just wondering why we can't just be accepted for ourselves. And that, "accept me for myself," is what the entire album is about. - "2econd 2ight 2eer," while it isn't one of my favorites, it's pretty good. A look at the lyrics (which you kinda have to look at them, since it's hard to tell what's Will sings, sometimes) tells a story of a man who knows that he's a little wacky, but he's not worried of labeled a psycho. I mean the line "Baby, I may be crazy but I didn't lose it, no I set it free" shows that the singer is purposefully releasing the silly! And as a bonus, I could draw some parallels to "Puppet Loosely Strung" by The Correspondents (would recommend), as that song is about the same topic, ignoring what society deems acceptable, but from an outsiders perspective. - "Laplace’s Angel" takes the feeling of guilt and pushes it to it's furthest extent, to the point of wondering if "Am I a bad person?" But I'll take a break from lyric analysis to talk about the music itself. While most of the song is a little same-y until the bridge (i think it's the bridge), the addition of the backing vocals present in the choruses help add to it, in addition to how the chorus grows in intensity each time it's sung. - Moving to "I / Me / Myself" is almost a punch in the face after the serious nature of "Laplace's Angel," which instead covers the nature of self and your own body. The entire song is almost light hearted, it explores the idea of being a girl. I mean who hasn't considered what it would be like to be the other gender. Once again, this song has several musically interesting parts, like what could be interpreted as an alarm going off as Will finishes line talking about something would be weird for society, or the bridge getting faster and more serious as Will almost yells at the listener. And that end whispering is... strange. Also, I just really like the phrase "girlfriend boyfriend". - I do not enjoy "...well, better than the alternative" enough to talk at length about it. But it does have a nice heartfelt slowed segment, which returns to regular when Will gets wrapped back up in what everyone else thinks of him. - "Outliars and Hyppocrates: a fun fact about apples" is one of my top 5 Will Wood songs. I love how it moves from the start to a faster base tempo. I love the drop for the "Well not ha-ha funny, but y'know, funny." I love the swap up after the first chorus that reminds me of "Chemical Overreaction". And "you were there, and you where there," But, the overall theme of the song, being the belief that things like mental illnesses ("The things that make you strange") are the only thing that makes you special. It's a mindset that fits with the whole staving artist theme. And lastly, how Will starts to babble the words in the last lines is representative of this mindset breaking down. - "BlackBoxWarrior - OKULTRA" is a fast song with a lot of words in it. Do not try to sing this one, it doesn't go well. I love the tone of this song, as it's almost talking down to you in the chorus section, and the speech is even funny to me how it ramps from "Why don't you take a seat?" to "Did Namibian Himbas tie-dye you, your ears pierced with a Phineas Gage flagpole, did you die before your day?" I believe that it's about someone who's had anything and everything wrong with him, and, yet, all anyone can say to him is, "If it was going to kill you boy, it would have by now." It doesn't matter how you're suffering as long as you can still do your job in the morning. And even when that someone tries to get help, shown in the speech, it's nothing but throwing medical terms around and doing anything that might help without actually figuring out what the issue is. Because "What, you think ideas spread because they’re good? No, they spread because people like them." - "Marsha, Thankk You for the Dialectics, but I Need You to Leave" shows the contrast between how previous generations used to tough it out, no matter what the issue was, and the current day, where people struggle to tell who they themself are and what part of them is the masks/illnesses/medication they have. - "Love, Me Normally" is about, well, wanting to be normal. Can you tell I'm getting tired of writing this? - And "Memento Mori" is attempting to rewrite the feelings surrounding death. As I mention in the video, Will (and Jash, for that matter) want to fight the societal norms of death being something terrifying, and that you need to strive to make something to live past you. So, with all that said, I really do enjoy "The Normal Album" because of it's themes of one's self, societal norms, and mental illness (which after writing this, I think there's something wrong with me). Most of the songs have very different feelings parts in them, which take you for a ride with each listen. as you said yourself, "Anyway thanks for reading this borderline insane ramblings and I hope you have a great day."
@@Pan.Gaming Thanks for the response! I’ve been listening to the album a bit after writing and hearing other perspectives than my own really helps me appreciate the album (and art in general) more. Although I still agree with original that it his worst work (I still absolutely love it definitely top 20 albums I’ve ever listened to and I listen to a fuck ton of music) it does have a lot to offer that I have kind of forgotten about. I think the reason it’s so low for is that I look for something very different when listening to will wood (cicada days was my first, against the kitchen floor is my favorite) and thats why it just doesn’t do as much for me as it seems to do for you. Also the correspondents is such a based suggestion. I recently listened to foolishman (such a good album) and am working through their discography. Also I feel I am more biased towards songs that have more confusing meanings (In the wise words of chonny “I can't seem to separate The confusing from the profound”) so that is another reason I’m biased against normal. Spending months listening to a song and only then truly understanding its ins and outs is extremely rewarding for me. While I think it has about the same amount of depth as his other albums, I think it’s just easier to grasp that depth. The best way I would describe it is that they’re all equally deep, but the other albums give you a snorkel, and this one gives you a submarine. Also I really appreciate the obvious effort put into the response. I think I’ll end this by saying something we can both agree on. I completely forgot it existed in the initial post but camp here and there is definitely his worst as I would barely consider it an album.
clicked on because of the thumbnail's album covers and the question posed by the title, which i would best answer with "my past." all of the mentioned songs (beside's chonny's covers) have had an absolute chokehold on me at some point in my life, with the earliest being 'the moss' in 2020 when my older cousin introduced me to cosmos sheldrake, and the most recent being tally hall in mid 2023.
I haven't seen anyone else recommend him, and considering you like a lot of the stuff i like, may i recommend Jhariah? I really like his music! most of the stuff i've heard from him sound kinda like misunderstood villian songs (like laplace's angel) and I think you'll love him!
Good news! I do love Jhariah! I haven't actually listened to a full album of him, but everything I've picked out have been bangers! I found him a few months ago when I clicked on 'Debt Collector' but my personal favorites have been 'Flight of the Crows,' 'RISK RISK RISK,' and 'Needed a Change of Pace'! (I even used RISK, RISK, RISK! for an Omega Strikers montage before I started video essays!)
@Pan.Gaming same! I love pretty much all the songs from 'a beginners guide to faking your death', but i've recently been listening to a newer one called 'PIN-EYE', and it's gotta be one of my favorites!!
yeah, sorry, yeah ISAT isn't technically relevant, but when you spend a month and a half making a 86 minute video about ISAT (and Limbus Company) you get to go to the next level of brain rot hey, maybe, you should check that video out? it's my second last upload or here's a link! ruclips.net/video/44563dVNVPw/видео.html if you do give it a watch, let me know what you think!
Well, ISAT just happen to fall into the 'games that make you sad' genre, and, OH MAN!, I can't seem to escape that game genre... In fact, this video was meant to be a short and easy break after the 86 minute video I did about Limbus Company and ISAT (which most of it turned out to be just about ISAT, whoops!) If you've got way too much time to waste, may I recommend it? ruclips.net/video/44563dVNVPw/видео.html
There’s a third version of Charlie’s inferno you might wanna check out just out of habit. It’s in the song “Terrible Things” from Axie, and it’s a fandom song for fnaf, i think the third game specifically. It’s hinted at in the beginning, (which i missed on my first listen) then gets to Charlie’s inferno later on. It’s a little bit corny, and originally i was about to click off when i heard that very recognizable “but i don’t want to die” kick in, which promptly blew me away and i became a fan of that song specifically for the reference.(I had just not long before found the other two versions you mentioned) Also if you like a broad spectrum of interesting music like me, check out magnum bullets, from night runner, some awesome modern 80s vibes in that one, and fear and delight from the correspondents, i honestly can’t really describe that one besides masterpiece. (Watch its music vid with it, it’s great)
Now, you've dragged me in with a hypothetical 3rd Charlie's Inferno. While I'm a person who's listened to quite a few fandom songs, and more specifically FNAF songs, I haven't heard of this one (or of Axie). Having watching it, well, right now, it's very interesting that the reference starts with the "I don't want to die" line, since that's the very end of the Charlie's Inferno, but it works so well. (Not to mention the kick in the stomach that is "I know you've heard the tune before"!) And I LOVE how insane it gets at the very end! 100% going into my collection. And for those recommendations, I'll have to check out Magnum Bullets, but I am already a big fan of The Correspondents! All of their music videos are so good, and of course 'Fear and Delight' is a masterpiece! If you haven't looked at their other stuff, "INEXPLICABLE" is also a banger with an amazing music video! (They didn't do any editing tricks, it's all just camera trickery!) And another one that I've enjoyed thoroughly that doesn't have a music video is 'Puppet Loosely Strung' (which if you're a Will Wood fan, I feel like there's interesting paralells between that song and '2econd 2ight 2ere' as both of them are about a person ignoring societal expectations, just from different perspectives) anyways, that got out of hand... thanks for the comment!
@@Pan.Gaming I’m a big fan of both of those songs lol, it’s super cool to find someone with such similar taste in music. Though i haven’t actually seen the music video from inexplicable, I’ll have to check that out! We could probably keep going back and forth with music suggestions lol Not too long ago i discovered negative harmony covers, there’s not many, and i don’t listen to them a ton, and whatever program this guy uses has some bugs, but it’s different and interesting, at least for one listen. i personally think this guys negative harmony of Take On Me is one of the best out of all the negative harmonies, followed by his negative harmony version of Bohemian Rhapsody. ruclips.net/video/8FsOpKTp48c/видео.htmlsi=ONYlzcuCk1EmCZpI
Going back and forth with recommendations in this comment chain is hilarious to me, so I'm going to keep this joke going for now! While I've never looked for it, I have heard of negative harmonies before! Maybe like 5 or 6 years ago, I found myself surrounded by insane versions of the song, 'All Star' by Smash Mouth. If you're unaware, 'All Star' is a very meme-y song (I mean, have you seen any of Neil Cicierega's work? He loves it), but I just kept finding the weirdest versions. So if we're going into the weird territory of negative harmonies, I'm gonna get a little crazy with this... Here are some I could dig up: Here's the Negative Harmony version (Which I love) - ruclips.net/video/jAT5rNkmGWg/видео.htmlsi=izrWFU-IEoZj8ER- This one's just Seth Everman (Pretty basic, but enjoyable) - ruclips.net/video/y4nn8o7oBzk/видео.htmlsi=2SZpyz0ELI_HEuzO How about a 16 piece choir version? (It's a choir version, I was in choir) - ruclips.net/video/vms3LvONyWM/видео.htmlsi=ecXQIjW3pE3FI3M4 Oh, I did mention Neil Cicierega... so I guess I'll post three of his 'All Star' focused songs... uh... Easy, basic, mashup song with 'All Star' and 'Float On' - ruclips.net/video/wEmJH7JsKgM/видео.htmlsi=M6ZI7zexp5wdBokW An advanced 'All Star' song, making it 'Promenade Pictures at an Exhibition' - ruclips.net/video/dQFUA2cr1fw/видео.htmlsi=zxdTgb8Ti1TTYbaj And for something just... very different... a track he called 'MOUTH' - ruclips.net/video/XAsPeY8BsQU/видео.htmlsi=-OD5P0BKfWNIyCBr And if you've made it through all of that, here's the point of no return. What if you took the vocals of All Star... and made it Pachelbel's Canon in D? ruclips.net/video/L1atQOvwODw/видео.htmlsi=gVElKJz0W7mVGUH2 I'm still not sure if that last one is the best or worst thing I've ever heard. Maybe you can help me on that front. I think there's something so interesting in taking classical pieces and recreating them for the modern day, no matter if the medium is paintings or music. EDIT: I FORGOT AN ACTUALLY GOOD ONE "All Star' but it's Beethoven's 5th Symphony in C Minor ruclips.net/video/MS7lVj9hCfw/видео.htmlsi=fC44wQ5AYVoAwzuY

When I clicked the video i had no idea it was gonna be about Chonny! I was delightfully surprised!
(Even if I might miss the Chonny Jash fans....)

I will fight you for WW albums. "In case I make it" is so full and saturated I can't fathom its slaughter for The Normal Album
also it's mEmento mori, as you show, not mOmento, as you speak (it's even different song from different author, if that helps)
Adding this to the list of things I'm mispronouncing without realizing
(and to be honest, I haven't sat down and listened through In Case I Make It in a long awhile.
I agree, ICIMI is the problems that I want to have, rather than The Normal Album being the problems I currently have.
HOLY SHIT CHONNY JASH JUMPSCARE
I’ll be honest i was so suprised chonny was a topic in this!

CHONNY JASH MENTION I. BROKE DOWN CRYING THIS VIDEO MADE ME SO HAPPY?! IT'S SO COOL TO SEE PEOPLE GIVING CJ RECOGNITION RAHBHHH
How did I find this channel that shares a lot of the same niche interests as me. I love it.
“what do all these songs have in common?”
“all talk about death? no- all have a bit of synth? no- maybe they- CHONNY JASH???”

I like to imagine Chonny’s mueic as reimaginings of these classic tunes, seeing as he often flips the entire feeling of the song on its head even if he doesn’t change the lyrics.
Can we talk about how Chonny's """cover""" of Mucka Blucka is a huge love letter to Tally Hall fans?? Cuz it's fucking AMAZING

COSMO, WILL WOOD, TALLY HALL AND CHONNY JASH MENTIONED!? HELL YEAH
I know exactly what those 4 songs have in common:
They are in my liked songs in Spotify.
Other great introductions to each band would be:
That Handsome Devil - Savages
Tally Hall - Ruler of Everything
Cosmo Sheldrake - Come along
Will Wood - Laplace's Angel
And yeah, seeing how we coincide in music taste I'm definitely gonna give Chonny a listen.
They're all in my playlist
I was so happy seeing Cosmo Sheldrake and Will Wood on the thumbnail!! I was wondering if you’ve ever heard of The Amazing Devil or Fish In A Birdcage? Or maybe Shayfer James? I think one of them at least will be up your alley. I have a lot of recommendations but I don’t often find people who likes that type of music 😭
Hell might as well list a few more.
Sea Wolf
San Fermin
Junie & TheHutFriends
Crane Wives
Pim Stone (he only has one song but its a banger)
Autoheart
Gregory and The Hawk
Phemiec (specifically their album, songs for girls in love)
damn do i love to see some appreciation to the Music Man! i instantly loved his stuff after listening to the tally hall covers, and it all just grew with each new release.
i think I'm just thankful for him for introducing me to will wood.
I LOVE THAT HANDSOME DEVIL FINALLYYYY SOMEONE ELSE LISTENS TO HIM!!!
YESSSS SAMMEEEEEE
They're performing in NYC on March 23rd, 2024 if you're in the area.
the realization suddenly dawned on my when I heard "Johnny Cash" I was so taken by surprise lol
Chonny was a pleasant surprise!!! I’m so happy his works are receiving coverage! Good upload man 👌👌👌
Saw this video pop up in my recommended and then I looked at the thumbnail and was instantly shocked that all four of my favourite song artists were displayed in it!
I’ve heard a lot about Chonny Jash but I haven’t really known what his deal was or where to start, so this is very helpful to me.
JASHSCARED!!!! I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED BY THIS IN MY RECCS :3
I enjoy the fact that you cover nearly every single one of the artists that's been the most formative to my own musical creativity. I rarely ever seen someone cover any of these artists, let alone all of them!
Cosmo sheldrake is one of my all time favorite artist he’s so talented
thanks for making this video, I haven't heard of some of these artists but i listened to them and love their music now
Wow, we have really similar music taste!
I'm going to check out this guy, thanks for the video!
(And as you've said, with respect, if it wasn't obvious.)
"In Case I Make It" is the album I've listened to the least because it's such a different feeling, like a somber ending.
(But, that could just be a 'skill issue' on my part.)
"Everything is a Lot" as an album feels... boring to me?
I love the tone of this song, as it's almost talking down to you in the chorus section, and the speech is even funny to me how it ramps from "Why don't you take a seat?" to "Did Namibian Himbas tie-dye you, your ears pierced with a Phineas Gage flagpole, did you die before your day?"
I believe that it's about someone who's had anything and everything wrong with him, and, yet, all anyone can say to him is, "If it was going to kill you boy, it would have by now." It doesn't matter how you're suffering as long as you can still do your job in the morning. And even when that someone tries to get help, shown in the speech, it's nothing but throwing medical terms around and doing anything that might help without actually figuring out what the issue is. Because "What, you think ideas spread because they’re good? No, they spread because people like them."
- "Marsha, Thankk You for the Dialectics, but I Need You to Leave" shows the contrast between how previous generations used to tough it out, no matter what the issue was, and the current day, where people struggle to tell who they themself are and what part of them is the masks/illnesses/medication they have.
Most of the songs have very different feelings parts in them, which take you for a ride with each listen.
as you said yourself,
"Anyway thanks for reading this borderline insane ramblings and I hope you have a great day."
God damn I accidentally wrote an essay again 😭
Damn was not expecting a Jash jumpscare but do have to agree with it
Everytime I was about to suggest a song I was immediately smacked with the song before I could comment! You have amazing taste!!
cosmo sheldrake, tally hall, that handsome devil and will wood!?!? legit some of my favorite artists
CHONNY JASH!!?!? im commenting as i watch the video
JASH JUMPSCARE
Well you gave me two new great artists to listen too you have earned my subscription
Oooo, which two, if you don't mind me asking?
Bro I saw like 3 of my favorite artists in the thumbnail and did not even hesitate
I was like: hey, Chonny Jash did a cover of that song.... WAIT
clicked on because of the thumbnail's album covers and the question posed by the title, which i would best answer with "my past." all of the mentioned songs (beside's chonny's covers) have had an absolute chokehold on me at some point in my life, with the earliest being 'the moss' in 2020 when my older cousin introduced me to cosmos sheldrake, and the most recent being tally hall in mid 2023.
god i love chonny jash's music, this really describes it super well and you didnt even TOUCH on the chaos compedium and its lore
I love pretty much all the songs from 'a beginners guide to faking your death', but i've recently been listening to a newer one called 'PIN-EYE', and it's gotta be one of my favorites!!
i love all of these artists, thats what they have in common
One sec, this video gave me a nureogasam. I'm currently flying in the clouds of the biggest tism high ever
5:55 IN STARS AND TIME JUMP-SCARE WHAT THE HELL???
yeah, sorry, yeah ISAT isn't technically relevant, but when you spend a month and a half making a 86 minute video about ISAT (and Limbus Company) you get to go to the next level of brain rot
hey, maybe, you should check that video out? it's my second last upload or here's a link! ruclips.net/video/44563dVNVPw/видео.html
if you do give it a watch, let me know what you think!
@@Pan.Gaming "yeah, sorry," my friend you should not be sorry I am absolutely ecstatic also great video I think it was very good
IS THIS AN COSMO SHELDRAKE MENCION???
OMG COSMO SHELDRAKE I LOVE HIM
recognized those album covers and clicked faster than i ever have lol, i love all these underrated artists so much
Chonny Jash fan AND In stars and time fan? man you got some GOOD taste!
Well, ISAT just happen to fall into the 'games that make you sad' genre, and, OH MAN!, I can't seem to escape that game genre...
In fact, this video was meant to be a short and easy break after the 86 minute video I did about Limbus Company and ISAT (which most of it turned out to be just about ISAT, whoops!)
If you've got way too much time to waste, may I recommend it? ruclips.net/video/44563dVNVPw/видео.html
@@Pan.Gaming I sure got the time, thanks for the video recommendation!
It’s a little bit corny, and originally i was about to click off when i heard that very recognizable “but i don’t want to die” kick in, which promptly blew me away and i became a fan of that song specifically for the reference.(I had just not long before found the other two versions you mentioned)
Also if you like a broad spectrum of interesting music like me, check out magnum bullets, from night runner, some awesome modern 80s vibes in that one, and fear and delight from the correspondents, i honestly can’t really describe that one besides masterpiece.
(They didn't do any editing tricks, it's all just camera trickery!) And another one that I've enjoyed thoroughly that doesn't have a music video is 'Puppet Loosely Strung' (which if you're a Will Wood fan, I feel like there's interesting paralells between that song and '2econd 2ight 2ere' as both of them are about a person ignoring societal expectations, just from different perspectives)
anyways, that got out of hand... thanks for the comment!
@@Pan.Gaming I’m a big fan of both of those songs lol, it’s super cool to find someone with such similar taste in music. Though i haven’t actually seen the music video from inexplicable, I’ll have to check that out! We could probably keep going back and forth with music suggestions lol
Not too long ago i discovered negative harmony covers, there’s not many, and i don’t listen to them a ton, and whatever program this guy uses has some bugs, but it’s different and interesting, at least for one listen.
i personally think this guys negative harmony of Take On Me is one of the best out of all the negative harmonies, followed by his negative harmony version of Bohemian Rhapsody. ruclips.net/video/8FsOpKTp48c/видео.htmlsi=ONYlzcuCk1EmCZpI
Here are some I could dig up:
Here's the Negative Harmony version (Which I love) - ruclips.net/video/jAT5rNkmGWg/видео.htmlsi=izrWFU-IEoZj8ER-
This one's just Seth Everman (Pretty basic, but enjoyable) - ruclips.net/video/y4nn8o7oBzk/видео.htmlsi=2SZpyz0ELI_HEuzO
How about a 16 piece choir version? (It's a choir version, I was in choir) - ruclips.net/video/vms3LvONyWM/видео.htmlsi=ecXQIjW3pE3FI3M4
Oh, I did mention Neil Cicierega... so I guess I'll post three of his 'All Star' focused songs... uh...
Easy, basic, mashup song with 'All Star' and 'Float On' - ruclips.net/video/wEmJH7JsKgM/видео.htmlsi=M6ZI7zexp5wdBokW
An advanced 'All Star' song, making it 'Promenade Pictures at an Exhibition' - ruclips.net/video/dQFUA2cr1fw/видео.htmlsi=zxdTgb8Ti1TTYbaj
And for something just... very different... a track he called 'MOUTH' - ruclips.net/video/XAsPeY8BsQU/видео.htmlsi=-OD5P0BKfWNIyCBr
And if you've made it through all of that, here's the point of no return.
What if you took the vocals of All Star... and made it Pachelbel's Canon in D?
ruclips.net/video/L1atQOvwODw/видео.htmlsi=gVElKJz0W7mVGUH2
I'm still not sure if that last one is the best or worst thing I've ever heard. Maybe you can help me on that front.
I think there's something so interesting in taking classical pieces and recreating them for the modern day, no matter if the medium is paintings or music.
EDIT: I FORGOT AN ACTUALLY GOOD ONE
"All Star' but it's Beethoven's 5th Symphony in C Minor

I LOVE WHEN PAN UPLOADS VIDEO ESSAYS
your voice very calming to listen too
also i love chonny jash. espesically his heart mind and soul songs and the WW power hour
i love all of these artists so much, and chonny jash covers them all so well! good to see im not the only fan of all five of these folks
I'm so glad this popped up in my recommended! I love people dissecting music they like and I'm obsessed with these artists so it was a no brainer to click
And I'm in your corner, The Normal Album is up there along with Self-ish
Great video! Especially how we get not one but 2 new pan names, has to be a record!
I figure that we'll just be able to put anything in " "s after the word Pan, and it'll be a canon name at some point.
