Hey Anete, I’m in Latvia this week visiting my wife’s family and I came across the confusing subject of prefixes on verbs changing the meaning, for example nobody wants to be accused of just apmazgāt-ing their house, of course they izmazgāt or nomazgāt it very well! Maybe you can help?! By the way your videos have helped me a lot over the years, thanks!
Hi there! Very interesting question, maybe I should do a video on the differences between prefixes. So apmazgāt means to wash slightly, like apmazgāt brūci - to lightly clean a wound (that you can’t wash thoroughly). Izmazgāt means to wash completely - inside and out. Nomazgat - to wash the surface (of your hands for example) nomazgat rokas. In your case it just means that they really want to clean the house thoroughly. But that’s a really interesting topic and thanks for suggesting it :)))) Hope this helps! Anete
Yes, you should do that, and then one about galotnes, even though this is a straight grammar lesson, but you are good at making fun out of the pedestrian and academic.@@irregularLatvian
Thank you! You are very talented and your vocal skills are impressive. Planning to visit Latvia next year and the more I learn about the people and culture the more hyped I get. Many values, characteristics and preferences I share. Greetings from Germany.
Jūs darāt ļoti noderīgu darbu! Man, kā angļu valodas zinātājam, tas lieliski noder lai atsvaidzinātu un uzturētu vārdu krājumu. (vocabulary). "Ak Dievs" tomēr nevajadzētu lietot katrā gadījumā. Kādam ticīgajam tas var būt par aizvainojumu ;). Tomēr labi, ka ir tulkojums. Paldies.
Hello Anete is it possible to do something regarding the up coming election on October 1 How does it work and who are the pro Latvian parties in the Riga region ? Paldies
Glad to have a list of such short words this time! haha "Fui!" sounds like "phooey!" that Americans like to use, except a slightly different meaning. I'm not even sure how to explain it, but it seems to be a cuter way to say "To hell with it!" My dad used it often...
Akd dažreiz mēs traki esam.. es te skolā bastoju pusdienas.. jā.. no visām stundām ko es varēju bastot.. protams pusdienas.. lai paskatītos cik mēs priekš amerikāņiem traki esam..
I would love if you could make some videos completely in latvian! It would be cool to be immersed in a full latvian video and practice thinking in latvian!
Hi, thanks for letting me know! It seems to be problem affecting iPhone users :((( Sorry about that. I’ve alerted RUclips. It should work from computers..
@@irregularLatvian Personally I would think that's amazing but it can be alot...Maybe the most common verbs and adjectives..Placing an emphasis on words that are used on a daily basis :P Thanks for all you do btw :)
Thanks for letting me know! I’ve alerted RUclips as I too am experiencing this issue - it seems that it’s affecting all iPhone users. Hopefully they will resolve soon. Meanwhile the video should work on pc :)
Brīnišķīgs skaidrojums❤

the range of emotions you show is vairāk interesanti kā paši words.😄 Vai man dieviņ!
Foršs dažādu izsauksmes vārdu apkopojums! "Ek" vietā es bieži saku "eh". Un vēl ir arī "ai, ai, ai" - mīļi baroties uz kādu.
We say "Fui" all the time to our 2 year old who tries putting finger in mouth or putting his hands in his podiņa 😂

My mom always exclaims Vai! After she sneezes and I picked up the habit. Now instead of a-choo! My sneezes go a-chai!
As an expat living in Rīga and learning Latvian, your videos are extremely useful. Liels paldies!

Thanks, this makes "Bāc, kā man apnicis tavs uzvārds!" a lot more reasonable, compared to google translate.
