I have visited Dhaka 2 times. Never felt that I was out of India, away from my home. My whole family migrated from present Bangladesh during 1965. During 1971, my grandfather participated in the muktijudhho. We become very nostalgic whenever we talk about Bangladesh. I have met many Bangladeshis in Kolkata. Same language, food and culture we have. Bengal and Punjab happens to be the worst affected states on 1947 partition. Many like us lost their homes and got seperated from their families.

Yes exactly, so why did the communal slaughters occur at all? After all, everyone feels at home, right? We have to be forthright, and place the blame where it belongs- on Islamic fanaticism and propensity for violence, given subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, encouragement by the British. And the Brits act like they are so innocent, where the communal killings and creation of refugees is concerned.

Everybody else in their quarters were killed. They fled through the border taking two pairs of chappals from the empty Dhaka University hostel and stayed in India for a year or so as refugees. I would have used the word "Prosecuted" rather than "Executed", because many were charged for the crime and all got their conviction according to their involvement.
Together we will thrive, if we could only fight our fights in the cricket field, and then decide to walk side by side to celebrate the rich culture, knowledge and legacy to take us to the heights world has never seen before. Religion has made nothing, and I say nothing but bleeding and sufferings to all. Let us work for a better future, a beautiful one.

I am from West Bengal. I have read several Bengali novels regarding 1971 liberation war. I have found that the nationalism was Islamic Urdu nationalism first and then it became Islamic Bengali nationalism. Hindus living there had always been doubted as supporters or agents of India. Their nationalism was homogeneous and it is the same even today. There is a documentary on the lives of the Bangladeshi hindu refugees in India. It clearly shows how the hindus were tortured in Bangladesh and how India helped them have a new life in India. Lots of Bangladeshis come to India even today only because of torture the hindus face their. The new generation Bangladeshis are very hostile to India and they do not have any gratitude for the help that India extended towards them. Yes, the friendship between Bangladesh and India is important but all these things that I have said earlier hurt me or us a lot.

Ayub was not a bad leader. When he visited France he brought all the Pakistani students from my school and told the director that they are his children and should be taken care of. They all had a lunch with Ayub Khan. Shortly thereafter our Cabinet Minister Ashok Mehtha visited the school and I dragged all Indians to greet Ashok Mehta from the Lunch area to greet him and the Minister did not even acknowledge any of us and walked straight. That told the School how much regard our politicians give to Indsians compared what Ayub showed. But after Ayub the dictators were not committed to the nation like Ayub was.

I was never a good student of History and History was never my favourate subject. However, the way Mr. Shekhar Gupta explains it, makes it so interesting. That's why I am hooked to "The Print". I wish the subscription was reasonably charged to make it affordable to everyone and focused on volume.

I like the viewership that you have. You do present quite an unbiased approach to news hence there’s more tolerance amongst people. Healthy debates are always welcome which are based on facts and devoid of propaganda & name calling.

There were protests against Modiji's visit in Bangladesh. Curfew was imposed in all places, where Modiji had visited. Protesters raised shoes in protest and blocked roads. Police resorted to lathicharge and firing shots. 4 Bangladeshis protesters got killed due to gunfire.
