I honestly think we should have a free trade agreement with Bangladesh. I believe Bangladesh is a bigger strategic threat if they are against us, rather than a economic threat to us.
I am from West Bengal. I have read several Bengali novels regarding 1971 liberation war. I have found that the nationalism was Islamic Urdu nationalism first and then it became Islamic Bengali nationalism. Hindus living there had always been doubted as supporters or agents of India. Their nationalism was homogeneous and it is the same even today. There is a documentary on the lives of the Bangladeshi hindu refugees in India. It clearly shows how the hindus were tortured in Bangladesh and how India helped them have a new life in India. Lots of Bangladeshis come to India even today only because of torture the hindus face their. The new generation Bangladeshis are very hostile to India and they do not have any gratitude for the help that India extended towards them. Yes, the friendship between Bangladesh and India is important but all these things that I have said earlier hurt me or us a lot.
Don't we treat some of the Muslims like this? Asking them where their loyalties lie all the time when a terrorist attack happens? We might be a bit better as that is the basic principle of India but are we different? Aren't we becoming more like them whom we dislike?
Ayub was not a bad leader. When he visited France he brought all the Pakistani students from my school and told the director that they are his children and should be taken care of. They all had a lunch with Ayub Khan. Shortly thereafter our Cabinet Minister Ashok Mehtha visited the school and I dragged all Indians to greet Ashok Mehta from the Lunch area to greet him and the Minister did not even acknowledge any of us and walked straight. That told the School how much regard our politicians give to Indsians compared what Ayub showed. But after Ayub the dictators were not committed to the nation like Ayub was.
Dictators are charming and women fall for powerful and authority no wonder. But that doesn't make Ayub anything great he ruined any chances of democracy taking shape.
Bangladesh is doing very good economically and also in Human Development Index. It is performing better than us in many Human Development measures. It all depends on the leadership, if we have mature leadership, country will prosperous.

Ground reality is different, anyone who has visited Bengal knows almost every labor -maids, drivers etc are from Bangladesh. Per Capita is skewed since India has a much larger population. They absolutely cross the border and will continue to do so.
India’s economy is also larger. That is why the per capita indicator is used. Ot would be very difficult to compare the economy of say India and Israel on the basis of size of economy. Per capita is not a perfect indicator, but it is a fair mode of comparison between two economies of different sizes

Mujib distributed the property of hindus who fled East pakistan during their ethnic cleansing in 1971, as evacuee property, to his party men, instead of reinstating them to their rightful owners. That is so much for Mujib's secular credentials. He also promised to rebuild The famous Dhakeswari temple, which was bull dozed by the Pakistan army. So far it has not happened. bangladeshi muslims are just as anti hindu as Pakistanis. They are just smarter and use india very well.

like the way you explain...
Same way muslims in India are treated

Where was this and when?
Pakistan had 8% growth in his era.
Dictators are charming and women fall for powerful and authority no wonder. But that doesn't make Ayub anything great he ruined any chances of democracy taking shape.

Relieving history. Thanks for the talk. I was told all of these just like a folklore that I heard from both my paternal and maternal grandparents who fled for their lives. The inhuman torture that Bengali Hindus had to face in the leberation war is rarely reported or discussed.
The last thing India wants is a radicalized Bangladesh. I hope Hasina govt takes care Hindu minorities..CAA NRC is an internal matter of India- the issue of illegal immigrants needs to be tackled.
