I personally use a Centre Shaft small mallet as I find it very easy to line up. Ive tried everything and just cant beat it however CS putters arent that popular.
Although Im only 180cms tall I also have a 36" shaft so more upright, not sure whether that also influences the CS.

No matter how you choose to putt, consistency at the strike is all the ball cares about. Having a consistent stroke helps us deliver that consistent strike, but the balls doesn't care one bit what happens before or after it gets slapped.

Chris, quick question about the inserts. I have been putting with the spider since the red came out. I now putt with the bronze spider. I got the spider EX last year and just didn’t like the feel of the insert. Seemed too soft to me as opposed to the spider models I have had before. I also use the short neck. So are the inserts on the new models the same as the EX of last year or different. Is my thought on the inserts a correct one from bronze model spider to EX spider..

It is true that there is an inertial "restoring force" that tries to align the center of mass (CoM) behind the pulling force for face balanced putters - BUT
    1. There is also a gravitational force that tries to make the CoM fall below the point of suspension, and due to the lie angle, that causes a face-balanced putter to fall open. The magnitude of the gravitational force is many many times larger than the restoring force for any reasonable putting stroke acceleration. The G force is at least 50x the restoring force at putting stroke speeds.
    2. The inertial force works in the wrong direction during the back stroke, so the CoM tries to align the putter face pointing backwards. In the absense of the gravitational force that overwhelms everything, this would make the putter face start to spin towards the wrong direction as you go back, and it would still be spinning (rotational inertia) at transition. Then as the stroke starts forward, the force reverses, and tries to counteract the existing spin. If the face had not yet rotated to 180 degrees (facing backward), the new force would slow down the spin. If the face had rotated past 180 degrees and was already "coming around", the new force would increase the rate of spin. Eventually, if the forward stroke were infinitely long, the forward force would eventually overcome the spin and it would settle down with the face pointing forward (ignoring the G force), but in practice, the forward stroke would have to be many times longer than the backstroke before the spin "settles out".
    3. The "restoring force" only exists when the club is accelerating under hand pressure moving the shaft, not when it is in "pendulum tempo" (i.e. a smooth stroke). In pendulum tempo, the forward restoring force is practically nil, and the ratio of the G force to the inertial force is extraordinarily large. In a smooth stroke, you must accelerate the club to start it moving backwards initially, which causes the counter-rotation (2), then for the rest of the stroke there is no acceleration due to the shaft, just the pendulum action due to gravity acting on the clubhead. So the only time the "restoring force" acts is in the wrong direction.
Conclusion - very few golf experts actually understand physics.

Face Balanced does *keep the Face Square to Path.*
Toe Flow/Hang actually wants to *Close on the Backstroke AND then Open on the Foward Stroke.*
This helps keep the *Face Square to the Target Line,* or the Tangent to the Arc Path.
*All other things being equal* FB moves the Ball towards the Pull Side of the Hole, and TF/H increasingly moves the Ball to the Push Side of the Hole.

Any shaft with a twist or hosel puts a putter in a out of balanced torque position during motion, thus the use of the term "balanced" is here in a misnomer I believe having NO torque in the motion of a putter assists players the best is is just science. Putters like a HONU or Lab help eliminate the twisting in the ark and the heads are more stable. This is all nice information but ..

    • @IamtheWV17
      @IamtheWV17 8 месяцев назад

That's not how physics works, though.... The face balanced clubhead's centre of mass lies directly behind the axis of the shaft.
As the shaft is pulled through the air, that centre of mass WILL align itself behind the rotational axis.
The clubheads will fall behind the shaft in motion, as seen when the clubs are laid flat.

@@ianandcharlottetarrant9394 so you are trying to tell me, at age 70, having owned enough putters that I cannot even count, that putter feel is a personal thing.
In 2007 when I was golfing a lot and about as good as I ever did, I had two putters that I swapped out according to green speed.
I used the Odyssey Tri Hot for faster greens where the insert helped me with a light touch and the Ping Redwood without insert for slower greens.
My current putter is a Tad Moore Physics that works just fine. I got it in a bunch of clubs I bought at a yard sale for 10 dollars.
