It is mentioned in morgoth's ring that she was a spirit that Morgoth probably met in the void before the creation of the world, and during the shaping of the world when morgoth's power was at its peak she was one of the many creatures that were drawn to his might. But later with the first defeat of morgoth she retreated from the world only to later find refuge in the southernmost part of Aman, a place that the valar didn't pay much attention to due to mostly expecting an attack from the north since the north was always morgoth's choice for his strongholds. At that point she was reluctant on siding with Melkor against the Valar in their own realm but as we know he promised her quite the reward for aiding him. When Melkor refused to give the silmarils which she also demmaned she turned on him.

She was in Melkor’s authority back in the Elder Days when he began Marring the World. She later defected his side probably some time after he was driven off by Tulkas for the first time. They later entered a partnership during the Darkening of Valinor, but then Morgoth was a shadow of the mighty Ainu he had been, and Ungoliant was able to turn on him without being instantly daunted by his majesty.
Edit: unfortunately for her, Melkor’s might still resides in his servants, the valaraukar, who are able to drive her off.

@@eraldohaba8216 No he isn't. Ancalagon was powerful, but he could not match Ungoliants might at all. Ancalagon should have been 3rd or 2nd, though arguably he wasn't as powerful as Sauron either.
Many people fail to realise Sauron's true power because it is not so explicit without further reading (and most people honestly only watch the movies), but Sauron was an immensely powerful Maia. Ancalagon was a very large and powerful dragon, but ultimately still a dragon and had only the powers of such. To take a quote from the book:
"It has been said that dragon-fire could melt and consume the Rings of Power, but there is not now any dragon left on earth in which the old fire is hot enough; nor was there ever any dragon, not even Ancalagon the Black, who could have harmed the One Ring, the Ruling Ring, for that was made by Sauron himself." - The obvious implication here is that Ancalagon, powerful as he was, could not match the power of Sauron - and the ring was only part of Sauron's full power (albeit a large part).
Ungoliant however is unarguably the strongest of Morgoth's allies. She was powerful enough to challenge Morgoth himself (albeit after she had drained the light of the Two Trees, and Morgoth had already expended a lot of his power in his campaign against the Valar - many people seem to forget that Melkor, much like Sauron, spread a lot of his strength and power quite thinly. Ungoliant was not more powerful than Melkor, but after feeding on Laurelin and Telperion she was definitely stronger than Morgoth in his weakened state.

As far as my understanding goes (I've only read Tolkien's books once, and just a few of the letters), calling any life Morgoth's "creation" isn't exactly correct in the grand scheme of things, as they are perversions of things created through Eru and the Flame Imperishable. Melkor's main source of jealousy and bitterness towards Eru was the inability for true creation, so he focused on corruption, and once his eternal devotion to this had become clear, he came to be called Morgoth. Before learning that the Flame was within Eru himself, Melkor had thought that he could be an equal, even a challenger, to Eru. All this is of course very much like what happened between Lucifer and the Judeo-Christian God.
Eru created Melkor and the other Ainur with free will and let them participate in the Song of Creation, but the creation happened through Him. Eru knew what was to come of the song, and he allowed it to go through as it were, in part because he wanted Melkor to see the result. I think that The Shire's part in the "underdogs' triumph" during the War of the Ring is a great example of how Melkor's disruptive participation in the song never had the potential to truly overpower the music of Eru and those who followed it. Yes, Arda was marred, and "evil" would always be a part of it, but it'd never completely take over.
As for Ungoliant, the way I see it is that since her spirit was older than the Song of Creation itself, Morgoth didn't have any power over her. One could argue that her presence on Arda had to do with Melkor's part of the creation music, but that's about it. Of course, any further nuance to this is free for infinite theories and interpretations, which is one of the great things about Tolkien, who kept his own knowledge about his writings second to that of Eru Ilúvatar's.

Ancalagon the Black is by far the most powerful, one of his claws....one (1) was 5x the length of smaug, his entire claw could wrap around the misty mountain and that is just his whole claw, and his head was 3x the size of the moutain, not even taking flight his height would be over 30,000ft and that is not including his wingspan which is triple that, basically this things almost before flight would already be in outer space...so i really fail to see how a spider person was the most power...

Good vid overall. And on a separate but related issue, none of those mighty nine, with the possible exception of Ungoliant, could best Ol' Tom in a one-on-one. While Tom is not a fighter and may not be able to destroy them, his power and joviality are too great for them to destroy him. Renember, Gandalf, Elrond, et al, considered Tom Bombadil as far more powerful than they. Even collectively. Though not Vala, perhaps only they (including Morgoth/ Melkor) could overpower Tom straught up. According to Tolkien's letters, Bombadil is not a Valar or Maia. Neither is he the embodiment of Middle Earth or Arda. And Tolkien was emphatic in saying Tom was not Eru. He is just Tom Bombadil and that is enough.
I always liked thinking that since Tom sang constantly that mabye he was some sort of by product or manifestation of the music of Eru Iluvatar and the Ainur. Apparently, he's not, but i still like that idea.
