See this is what I don’t understand about the leaf fans which I am a devout and very hard-core one every year in the playoffs over the last 10 years we have one person that stands out and does something that either embarrasses himself or hurts the team and right away we lose the series, and we looked to replace them so one year or two years in a row Nazem Kadri was a bit of a headache took some stupid penalties. We let go of him and now we see him thriving on winning a cup not so much doing anything in Calgary, but still viable player that we could’ve used. Couple years ago we don’t.Resign Zachary Hyman… maybe that’s a financial situation. I’m not sure I know he wanted to stay in Toronto, but we let him go and he’s thriving in Edmonton and may be holding a Stanley Cup in about two months… we’re talking about how do we get rid of Mitch. Who is the catalyst for the office? Maybe he doesn’t play the best defence maybe he does take some plays off and maybe he’s not worth the 12 million he’s asking for but deep down inside. I think we need them and it looks like we’re saying goodbye to another key player, based on some emotion he showed…

They can't do anything about the no move clauses but if I were GM I would let Marner walk after the contract and try to sign Tavares for a much lower price which is typical for a 35 + year old. He is still a beast in the faceoff dot even though his production isn't as good anymore. I would say 3 million is a good price for JT. As for Marner he would never accept less money because in his own mind he thinks he is a hockey god but lacks the effort to back it up. Talent means nothing if you don't have the work ethics.

Marner is hardly the only NHLer who tries to sell penalties. In fact I've watched Rhudey (who btw has never won a cup) flopping around the goal crease trying to sell a penalty on more than one occasion. And, while his backchecking on Pasta's goal was non-existent, when did it become Marner's, and only Marner's, job to provide defense? Where are all the cries about Toronto's defensemen who let Pasta enter their end zone unchallenged? Toronto's fans and media have always been toxic. Toronto's offense was matching the Bruins step for step in the last 3 games but it was Toronto's defense that lost them the game.

  • @colts0627

In game 7 he had literally ( with his skating ability ) a perfect wraparound goal . Honestly Swayman may have got it but 95% chance at least it goes in . What's he do ? Wraparound and passes it off because he was scared shitless of getting hit . Had he finished the play good chance it goes in . Willy and Matthews combined for their goal in game 7 . But who let's their man loose in OT ( his assignment was Pastrnak ) the last guy you want on a breakaway possibility . Even though it wasn't technically a breakaway bounce pass off the boards that rebounded to Pastas stick . Either way THAT CAN'T HAPPEN . 3 strikes you're out and he made 3 strikes in this series . Bye bye so called defensive 10.9 million dollar forward . When you check the stats Matthews is actually far better defensively led the NHL entirely with 92 takeaways in 2021-22 ( the 60 goal year ) next year leads the league amongst forwards in blocks ( hence why he had the wrist surgery blocking pucks doesn't feel nice but at least the efforts there ) . He made the decision easy for Treveling in this series . Well not so easy actually because his trade value likely went down . Don't think for a second that 31 other GM's aren't watching this . Treveling's best bet is to ( because reg.seasons way less physical ) is to let him rack up some points to build up his value at the deadline .

I've been saying for years now that Marner is an excellent regular season player, but he just doesn't have what it takes in the playoffs, particularly in the pressure-cooker that is Toronto.
Watch him get traded to another team where he's out of the constant sports spotlight and he'll likely thrive. Not all players are meant to play in the hotbed markets.

I find it comical that every year around this time there is falk the so called "core four" issue needs to be addressed. Marner is usually the one that takes the heat. I suspect there are many teams in the League would should love to have 3 of the 4 (my core 4 includes Reilly, not JT). It's much too simple to blame 3 guys when there are many more on a TEAM. Where is the secondary scoring, what happens when 1, 2 or 3 of them are hurting? The management Team made THEM the TEAM and granted their every wish including 3 banks. They turned the team into a Country Club fun by 3 players and forgot what the Primary Object was. It would be asinine to move 1, 2 or 3 of these guys...instead, a just the attitude. It's the Toronto Maple Leafs, not the the Toronto "core 4". IF ShanaPLAN Shanahan was worth his salt, he would have recognized what was going on and put a stop to it. He would also have built a great supporting team members who could skate and play any style. An old, slow pugilist and once great defencemen does not fit the bill. It's time for change in Management, remind everyone this is the NHL and run a boot camp with some tough love. Those who don't or won't go along are too far gone, so move them on.
