Kochi is a large port city situated on the coast of the Lakshadweep Sea. Kochi is also called Ernakulam, which means the main land part of the city. Kochi Municipal Corporation is spread over an area of about 95 square kilometers. Kochi is the second most populated city in Kerala State, although in terms of urban population it is the most populated city in Kerala. By the end of the year 2024, the population of the metro area here is estimated to be 35 lakhs.
Kochi has been the center of spice trade on the western coast of India since the 14th century. Known as the 'Queen of the Arabian Sea', Kochi is one of the top-rated international tourist destinations where holidaymakers get to see the pre-historic, historical and modern eras up close.
Kochi is actually the heart of Kerala. It is the financial capital of the city where many businesses including IT are flourishing as it is one of the major port cities of the country. This metropolitan city has everything that can attract your mind in any season such as the facilities of a metro city, the beauty of nature and the amazing culture here. If you want to go on an adventure trip or enjoy a relaxing holiday, believe me, you will not be disappointed here.
Cherai Beach is 27 km from here, if you go by taxi then it will take about an hour to reach there. Cherai Beach is one of the most visited places in Kochi. Cherai Beach gives Kochi people a chance to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The best time to visit Cherai Beach is in the evening, where you can see the beautiful sunset.
You can also go to Vypin Island from here, Vypin Island is a very famous tourist destination of Kochi. It forms a barrier island surrounded by the Arabian Sea in the west and the tributaries of the Periyar River in the east. This island is about 27 kilometers long and is famous for its natural beauty, pristine beaches and fishing villages. There are many tourist places on Vypin Island, including Cherai Beach.
Here you can also visit Munambam Fishing Harbour, which is the largest fishing port in Kochi. Apart from this, you can visit Elamkunnapuzha Subramanya Temple, Cherai Temple, Pallathamkulangara Devi Temple, Azheekkal Sree Varaha temple, Puthuvype Lighthouse , Sahodaran Ayyappan Smarakam, Cruz Milagres Church, Kuzhupilly Beach and Pallippuram Fort.
Apart from this, Dutch Palace and Bolgatty Island are also great places to visit. Along with these, the man-made Willingdon Island surrounded by magnificent backwaters is also very beautiful. This island was named after the former British Viceroy of India, Lord Wellingdon.
Fort Kochi Beach is also very famous in Kochi, along with this you can also visit Kodanad Elephant Training Center. Kerala is famous all over the world for its natural beauty, if you are a nature lover then definitely visit Kochi Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary.
