From Wikipedia: Kidnapped is set around real 18th-century Scottish events, notably the "Appin Murder", which occurred in the aftermath of the Jacobite rising of 1745. Many of the characters are real people, including one of the principals, Alan Breck Stewart. The political situation of the time is portrayed from multiple viewpoints, and the Scottish Highlanders are treated sympathetically
The main character , David Balfour did not speak broad Scots. He was a well educated middle class young man . I imagine he spoke rather like David Tennant - ie. a sort of irritating " posh " Scottish accent. Apart from that : most of us don't understand broad Scots so any audiobook read in that accent would be incomprehensible to a majority of listeners .
So much better than the American voice. Loved it.
Agreed .
