    One of the things that makes the "Bullitt" chase scene so excellent is the amazing soundtrack. If you watch the scene and take note of the sound, you can actually hear the sigh of the shock absorbers as the cars land and rebound from being airborne.

    Steven Spielberg's Duel (1971)

  • @WildeFyre69
    @WildeFyre69 5 лет назад

    Bullit and the 7-Ups had the best chase scenes. Especially Bullit.
    More: Viewers who have liked the chase scene in Bullitt recommend starting with Robbery (1967) (1967), a dramatization of the Great Train Robbery and directed by Peter Yates, who also directed Bullitt. Following Bullitt, the number of movies with good chase scenes proliferated. Some of the recommended ones include: Cotton Comes to Harlem (1970)(1970), The French Connection (1971) (1971), Vanishing Point (1971) (1971), Shaft's Big Score! (1972) (1972), What's Up, Doc? (1972) (1972), which spoofs the chase from Bullitt, Cleopatra Jones (1973) (1973), Live and Let Die (1973) (1973), where the chase takes place in boats, The Seven-Ups (1973) (1973), which reuses the Bullitt soundtrack during a similar chase scene, Gone in 60 Seconds (1974) (1974), Dirty Mary Crazy Larry (1974) (1974), Truck Turner (1974) (1974), Smokey and the Bandit (1977)(1977), and The Driver (1978) (1978).

    All great but I have to echo the person who said "RONIN!!!!!!!"
    Also, while you did mention it, the motorcycle chase from THE GREAT ESCAPE should have been in the place of AKIRA. I don't want to fault AKIRA, but come on, if real people aren't endangering their lives, what's the point?
    It also deserves to be here because it's one of the few films where an actor chases himself.
    Several of the German stuntmen weren't quite up to some of the stuff they wanted to do so Steve McQueen actually put on a helmet & goggles & played German cyclists in the reverses. What can I say? The King of Cool.

    One small "beef", you did mention chases on foot but failed to even mention the most "epic" (and, according to the script, longest) chase on foot. The Two Towers, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli chasing the band of Uruk-Hai who kidnapped Merry and Pippin for THREE freaking days!! I know, it is not as action packed as the others and it is not shown uninterrupted within its movie BUT still....THREE days chasing on foot begs at least an honorable mention!

    As has been pointed out, Ronin is missing from this list from the genius of John Frankenheimer who also made Grand Prix which although it is about motor sport and not chase scenes the racing scenes are some of the best car scenes ever shot. He used a lot of the same camera work on Ronin making it a legendary high speed car chase movie worthy of top 10.

    Ronin has the best, most technical and realistic chase scene of all time. It's the Heist of car chases.

      The get away after the gun buy under the bridge, the case heist or the BMW chase through the tunnels etc. Anyone of those was equal to any of those on this list, and whats with the animated pick?

      Yeah, but The Transporter's opening scene is better. Yes, it's choreographed (which it even makes fun of later in the movie), but it's an awesome scene.

    a few glaring omissions - though you have to tip the hat to French Connection and Bullit - include Ronin, Blues Brothers, Bourne Supremacy (the taxi chase is better than the New York chase in Ultimatum, though the Tangier roof chase arguably beats them both) and there ought to have been a shout out to Ferris Bueller for the final 'March of the Swivelheads'-soundtracked race to get home between Ferris on foot and sister Jeanie in the car.

      The chase was actually done without permits, with off duty NYPD officers as drivers and trying to control traffic. The crash with the white Ford is the only collision with a civilian. The woman with the baby carriage is totally scripted.
