      Honestly, they've set the standard for Top 10 list.
      In that oversaturated market of content, Cinefix shows how the Top Ten List can be utilized as more than just an opinion piece, but an essay exploring the depth and complexity of the subject; each number highlighting the best of its own class, rendering the list more akin to a showcase, where each selection, from #10 to #1, is equal to each other in their importance and value to the subject at hand.

    I just had an epiphany about Cinefix's top ten: they are not making top ten videos, not really, they simply want to talk about interesting things in films. So they use the top ten as an excuse in order to have some coherence in their argument. So if you are one of those guys who are upset that the Delorian isn't #1 or even the "choice" in its own category, you are missing the point. They did nominated the car but wanted to draw your attention to another film, not because it is better but because it is more interesting. I , as a massive petrolhead, am very happy that they chose this topic and I respect their opinions even if they are different from my own.

      I allways thought this was blatently obvious by them saying number 10 is about this Theme. How can you rank themes. They just pick a topic, 10 themes and talk about which movie fits the theme best. Comparing the themes is pointless.

      That's why Cinefix is the best. They take the top 10 formula and use it as a canvas to present other movies to us. I lost count of the number of films I learned about through their lists. Hidden Gems aplenty.

    • @jamesaditya5254

      "Top 10" is just a great buzzword (or phrase) to get it out there, almost acting like a clickbait intended to sit you down for a short lecture on why cinema is a lasting form of entertainment. Also that feeling when you spot one of those obscure titles that you very much love but can't seem to find anyone else that even heard of it, gives a mini orgasm to your heart.

      @jimmykim9001 3 года назад +1

      What exactly does the DeLorean symbolize?

    • @DerMoerpler
      @DerMoerpler 3 года назад +9

      Nah, it's just a gadget. Aside from its function as a time travel device, there isn't much the car itself contributes to the movie. If you would switch it with the original idea (a refrigerator), it wouldn't impact the story apart from the fact that the time travel would look a lot less cool. And as much as it pains me to say this, but Back to the Future doesn't beat James Bond when it comes to cars as a gadget.

    • @ClimbingEasy
      @ClimbingEasy 3 года назад +4

      @@DerMoerpler I respectfully disagree.
      The whole climax of the very first movie was about the timing of the lightning strike and going 88 mph. Can't go that fast in the refrigerator...
      And if you use the refrigerator; you just place it next to the clock tower connect some cables and wait. This changes the entire storyline.
      Throughout the series they used the car to travel and to progress the story. And the fact that the car is futuristic styling is used as a plot point on Mr Peabody's farm. Which is later referenced when Marty pretends to be "Darth Vader" to convince his father.
      This is on top of the main rotation of the movie around the car being a time machine. Extremely metaphorical in terms of freedom also in the way that the car can literally change your life. They use other cars to symbolize how drastic of a life change Marty has been through; ie the Toyota truck.
      I was actually quite shocked that in this video they did not mention Back to the Future once. Also didn't mention Herbie if I think about it right now.
      Those are the two most famous and recognizable cars in movie history.

    • @DerMoerpler
      @DerMoerpler 3 года назад +1

      @@ClimbingEasy I see your point, but I'd argue that most of these are largely plot details. They could get the same "ticking clock" style final act, where they have to meet the exact conditions at the exactly right timing for the time travel to work, without using a car. Again, probably not as cool, but it's possible. And at the Peabody farm it's mostly just a gag. What actually happens in that scene? He crashes in a barn with his time travel device and needs to flee, and because his time travel device ist mobile, he can use that. There's nothing deeper happening here, it's just plot mechanics (which is Totally fine,. BTTF isn't nor should it be a Kubrick or Tarkovsky movie). So none of that actually tells us the DeLorean is anything more than a gadget plot device. It's a tool the characters need to further the plot, therefore = gadget. And it's hard to argue against James Bond in that category.
      You do have a point with the car as a symbol of freedom though, which would land it in the #10 spot. Though I'd argue it shouldn't win against Vanishing Point in that aspect as well. The freedom thing is one aspect of the movie when it comes to the DeLorean, when in Vanishing Point it _is_ the movie. The entire film is about that car and driving it.
      I absolutely love Back to the Future, I'd say it's somewhere in my Top 5 favorites of all time, but I can't argue that James Bond and Vanishing Point are better picks for their categories.
      They did mention the DeLorean and Herbie in their #5 and #2 picks respectively by the way. Also, famous and recognizable by themselves are not really the important factors when it comes to the picks for a Cinefix list, and I'd rather have it this way than if I could predict 8/10 picks beforehand because they just choose the popular ones.

    • @ClimbingEasy
      @ClimbingEasy 3 года назад +3

      @@DerMoerpler great points! Thank you for the respectful, thoughtful response. It is a rarity here on RUclips.
      Sorry I missed the Herbie mentions.
      The Peabody farm scene is a gag but it serves as a chekov gun for the scene that Marty uses to convince his father.
      Yeah they could have found another way of to write a ticking clock, but that isn't the movie. And as it is written it would be very applicable.
      Otherwise I agree with everything you say.
      Also since you are a back to the Future fan and I am as well; there's one plot hole that always messed with me. In back to the Future 2; doc is hovering in the DeLorean, then get struck by lightning and sent back to 1885... Not going the obligatory 88 mph. Making the climax of both the first and the third movie moot.
      This is bothered me so much I've even calculated free fall with air resistance. If the DeLorean was 5000 lbs, it would take a fall of 265 ft for 4.1 seconds to reach 88.7 miles an hour.
      And I know it is ridiculous because it is a sci-fi fantasy and realism doesn't play into it too much. But it's never set right with me, any thoughts?

    I love how more people are recognizing it is not actually an "Interceptor" but it was a Pursuit Special. Though calling it now a Interceptor Pursuit Special is a good compromise. Props on getting the year and model and engine size right. The 73 still had the 4V option and was more powerful than its post 74 sisters and it was the last (for a time) GT model range Ford optioned on the Falcon. In my eyes and others, it was the LAST of its kind like the movie even said. The XC GXL was just a shadow of the former glory, and the XB was the best of those 3 cars.

    Was expecting to see the Driver's 1973 Chevy Malibu from Drive (2011). I always viewed that car as an extension of the character: subtly undercover, but when looked at you'll see a beast underneath the hood, in this case a 350 cubic-inch V8 Turbo-Fire Hydra-Matic.

    The fact that this list snubbed the DeLorean from the Back to the Future series, the Batmobile (any of them, especially the 1989 one), Steve McQueen's 1968 Ford Mustang GT from Bullitt, the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters, Travis Bickle's taxi cab from Taxi Driver, AND The Bluesmobile (1974 Dodge Monaco sedan) from Blues Brothers just blows my mind. Thank God they at least had the Aston Martin DB5, that was the first car I thought of as soon as I saw the title of this video. Am I alone in being shocked that these cars didn't make the list?

      @@i_so_late CineFix does INCREDIBLE videos full of depth and complexity but it doesn't matter how great you do stuff, there will always be people whining about something. And you are right, the car itself doesn't matter, it's just a tool of his occupation as a taxi driver, which is the true representation of the character. As much as I enjoyed it being mentioned, speed racers mach 6 was shown when the mach 5 was mentioned, the difference being that the only gadgets the mach 6 had were the jumpjacks and t180 wheels that all cars in speed racer were equipped with. The mach 5 however was filled with gadgets varying in absurdity from spiked wheels to saw blades to a bulletproof bubble cockpit. That's literally what she is to Memphis Rains....she is the unattainable unicorn. Definitely not "just a car" in the movie. And 2) Ecto-1 would fit more under "Car is just a car"...she's the ultimate example of "function over form" in Ghostbusters.
