Sadly I have to agree. There's so many reasons why it was so amazing. The source material. The casting. The music. All the artists who were involved. And you guys deserve to know: I had to get up out of my chair and go up and Like and comment this, just for always coming up with beautiful movie talk but also the little nuances, such as the The Last Action Hero inserts in this particular video around the 9:26 mark. SO GOOD. SO MAGIC. Love your editing and passion for movie talk and I'm glad to see you guys back, it's feels like it's been a while. Please keep it up!

For anyone who haven't seen Pathala Bhairavi (1951), Mayabazar (1957) & Baahubali 1&2 (2015,2017) these are Great Telugu Films which are made in India (Not Bollywood). If you want to know other fantastic fantasies from Telugu Cinema here are 4 of them: 1. Eega - Revenge Fantasy (2012) 2. Arundhati - Fantasy Horror (2009) 3. Jamba Lakidi Pamba - Fantasy Comedy (1992) 4. Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari - Romantic Fantasy (1990). Note - There's much more in Indian Cinema than Bollywood Musicals same as there's much more in American Cinema than Superhero Movies and Franchises.
AHHH Great list! I love that you chose La Belle et La Bete. It's one of my all time favorites and it just _feels_ like a fairy tale. Gorgeously filmed in that whimsical black and white beauty. And of course LOTR needs to be first. How dare you remind me it's 20 years old 😱 It was the cornerstone of my high school years and the thing that helped me get through some tough times.
I guess you guys are right. Star wars and of course, Dune have their own categories, I suppose. But, if we are truly talking about fantasy worlds, you cannot escape all of the extra-earth genres. But, just my opinion. I really watch this stuff to see the movies I may have missed, and wow, there still are so many, so it's a worthy watch
I was bursting at the seams to shout out Heavenly Creatures for the first category, but waited to see if it would land elsewhere in the video. Making this list was a monumental task, so anyone would be forgiven for leaving out a few examples. Still, I was also pretty surprised Charlie and the Chocolate Factory didn’t make it into the urban fantasy. Anyhow, as always your video has stoked the fire of cinema love again. Thanks!
LOVE the Howl’s Moving Castle pick. All of Myazaki’s films are wonderful, but that one is my personal favorite and it seems like it’s almost never acknowledged.
Give it a bit of time. It’s still one of his more recent films, so it hasn’t yet had a chance to truly establish itself. My favourite is still Mononoke, but that’s a much older one.
I love how every time I leave with 10+ movies to watch and then read the comments and have to add 10+. Amazing list and yes, LotR is a everlasting miracle, when The last goodbye was playing at the end of the Hobbit trilogy I got so emotional, the feeling of witnessed the yearly release is a dear memory that I'll carry for as long as I live.
I remember watching LOTR for the first time in college (because I was too young to see it when it first came out) with a group of friends. We'd initially intended to just watch Fellowship, but were so drawn into the world we ended up binging all three movies in one sitting-- from 3pm to roughly 2am the next morning. It's still one of my favorite memories from that period of my life.
I really appreciate this list. Exploring each category as a tier list was pretty fascinating. Talk about the "9 Realms" haha. And of course Lord of the Rings rolling in at number 1 is for certain the right call. Thanks for the video. I loved seeing so many references
One movie that should have received mention is The City of Lost Children. Definitely one of my favorite fantasy films. But I do love this list - definitely many movies on here for me to track down!
I'm not sure where to place them...but a few fantasy films I think got left off are. The City of the Lost Children (1995), Dark City (1998), Jumanji (1995), Ladyhawke (1985), & Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Most of his films bother me...but not Big Fish. It is such a great experience to watch that one, and the end turns me to a weeping, slobbering mess. One of my favorite films ever.

The composition of this list made me very happy, as did seeing some of my favorites earn honorable mentions. The way you presented Fantasy Epic was wonderful and hilarious and I loved it.
I know this isn't a movie, but if you like Magical Realism you should definitely read the books of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, mainly 100 Years of Solitude
Omg. I tried and I really really disliked it. It was boring to me. It seemed to me objectively good, but for another kind of audience, who loves realism with a delicate element of magic. I love these things separately and at their fullest.
I get so mad when you guys take a month to post a new video and then am always blown away when I watch a new one. This channel is the best kept secret of RUclips
So glad you included Celine and Julie on the list! Too many of my friends, even film fans, look at me blankly when I tell them about it. The three-hour length is somewhat daunting, but it flies by even though the film didn’t have the budget or SFX of hits like LoTR.
I'll add the caveat that Lord of the Rings was intended by Tolkien to be one story. He wrote it all as one book, but due to the cost of paper at the time, he had to split it into three parts. So you could technically call the Lord of the Rings "Trilogy" one movie split into three parts, just like the books are actually one novel split into three parts. At least, that's how Tolkien intended it.

If you don't cry during the musical swell after Aragorn bows to the Hobbits, then you're not a human.
For me it was Boromir's last stand followed by "I would have followed you, my brother. My captain. My king."
@@Mortred99
Oh well, obviously there too. But I've seen plenty of people say there's nothing worth reacting to in the first 2 movies, but if you get all the way to this moment and still don't cry, then you're an alien or a robot.
That's like the last part where I would cry but ok. (It's sam drawing, in the first one or when they are on the mountain and it's erupting that gets me)
@@francescobruno418
Did I say it was the first or only moment? No, I'm implying that it's the biggest.
If you get through all 3 movies without crying, if you get all the way to this point near the end of the last movie and STILL don't cry, then you're not a human.
FFS I feel like people are going out of their way not to understand this.
Edit: Like... I literally already explained this too...
Guess I'm not human. So what does that make me?
Next do a list of top 10 b-movies of all time. It will be interesting
I'm fairly-what glad I saw Ed Wood, the film by Tim Burton, before I saw Plan 9 From Outer Space.
Tremors for the a monster attacks category
Worst Movies of All Time? Hmmmmm. You have my attention.
@@Navesblue B movies aren’t necessarily bad, they’re just low budget and campy.
Finally Russ Meyer's chance to shine!
Stardust, Krull, and Sorry to Have Bothered You should have been highlighted in this list.
It's called Sorry to Bother You.
Agreed on the first two, not seen the other so can't comment. They definitely did one thing right by not including the execrable Hobbit movies, though.
Beastmaster, too.
Stardust got mentioned

Not even the same director with the prequel material.
definitely not another movie but if we are talking books, check out the stormlight archives by Brandon Sanderson. Phenomenal

Game of thrones
I absolutely love the construction of this list… I’m glad Uncle Boonmee made this list, I hardly ever hear anyone talk about it. I always manage to find new movies to watch in your vids, and this time I found plenty!
I'm so glad for your number 2 pick! I feel it often gets overshadowed by Spirited away, but the world and storyline of How'l feel so much more incredible to me!
Have you read the trilogy by Diana Wynne Jones?

Pan’s Labyrinth is my top 1 favorite movie
This and The Fall

Can't wait to watch The Green Knight to hopefully add it to my top ten fantasy movies
So happy you picked Big Fish
the wuxia genre is one of my favourite discoveries when it comes to fantasy. the way it is both fantastical and entirely mundane to the people themselves is incredible to watch
All 3 Indian movies in your list are from our Tollywood(Telugu film) industry. Thank you cinefix for recognizing them.
Yeah, Bollywood kinda sucks! Just knows how to copy movies from south
Except "Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne"
The thing I like about this channel is that it recognizes movies from all over the world, not just Hollywood.
@@Dibyendupal22 Yeah. sorry I missed that.
Thank you for selecting Cocteau’s La Belle et la Bête, one of my all time favorite films ; that first showed me the magic of movies. The atmosphere of this film is so original and captivating, it’s a must see for any cinéphile out there!
Aww man. Just gotta say: I have a "Watch later"-list which I casually add interesting videos to for playing video games on mute with youtube in the background...
I just wanted to say you guys have made me find a new appreciation for film and everything that goes into making them
Great list. For the mythological fantasy I would add Cartoon Saloon’s films “Secret of Kells”, “Song of the Sea”, and “Wolf Walker’s”
The smile on my face when you named Howl's Moving Castle for no. 2. It doesn't get nearly enough recognition as it deserves and I was so happy to see it there!
I'm surprised you didn't have Space Fantasy as a category. Like Star Wars, Flash Gordon, etc
[SPOILERS]They already put Star Wars in the Western top 10.[/SPOILERS]
@@sonicgoo1121 Yea, but they've put films in multiple genres before
Yeah, I was thinking how science fiction films are also in a sense fantasy films.
Omg. You putting Big Fish on the list is way more validating than I ever thought possible.
Thanks!
Wow, 4 references from criminally underrated Tollywood of india. Thank you.
Two different Tollywood, you mean?
There's absolutely no way a movie can get more magical or packed with fantasy than LOTR.
Not gonna lie, I watched this just to make sure that The Lord Of The Rings was #1
I love how every time I leave with 10+ movies to watch and then read the comments and have to add 10+.
Hot Ones and CineFix: the RUclips crossover event of the century
I really appreciate this list. Exploring each category as a tier list was pretty fascinating. Talk about the "9 Realms" haha. And of course Lord of the Rings rolling in at number 1 is for certain the right call. Thanks for the video. I loved seeing so many references
One movie that should have received mention is The City of Lost Children. Definitely one of my favorite fantasy films. But I do love this list - definitely many movies on here for me to track down!
Way to toy with our emotions at the end, y'all.
...but yeah, nothing beats LOTR.
I'm not sure where to place them...but a few fantasy films I think got left off are. The City of the Lost Children (1995), Dark City (1998), Jumanji (1995), Ladyhawke (1985), & Edward Scissorhands (1990)
No Kusturica mention within the magical realism section, now that's radical
Glad that Big Fish made the list. That is a pretty special movie.
Proud to see Big Fish get some love. I've always felt it was one of Tim Burton's less acknowledged films. Thank you
Most of his films bother me...but not Big Fish. It is such a great experience to watch that one, and the end turns me to a weeping, slobbering mess. One of my favorite films ever.
@@papigringo5692 I think it’s one of the few films of his that are noticeably substance over style. Generally he gets a bit carried away with giving everything the Burton Look.
This was way more respectable than most social media "lists". Quite the intellectual and well justified top 10. Well done!
Just a heads up, the title for Time Bandits is misspelled. It says "Tim Bandits".
Excellent video, as always!
That's the spinoff with just Tim and his bandits.
I wouldn't have thought of Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon. Excellent pick and curveball there Cinefix. Gonna have to rewatch it now lol
Thank you for giving attention to Big Fish. That movie is so underrated!
Glad to see Big Fish here! Not one of Burton's most popular films but one of my favorites!
There was no doubt in LOTR being at the top. My favourite movies of all time.
Fantasy is my favorite genre in media, and I didn't expect you to bring us a list for this. It's amazing, I have a lot of new movies to add to my list now
The composition of this list made me very happy, as did seeing some of my favorites earn honorable mentions. The way you presented Fantasy Epic was wonderful and hilarious and I loved it.
I do think Pan's Labyrinth should have taken its category, I don't think I've ever seen a more haunting and beautiful film.
I know this isn't a movie, but if you like Magical Realism you should definitely read the books of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, mainly 100 Years of Solitude
best book ever? maybe
@@burgesssam Altough I haven't read enough books to call it that, it is definitely my favourite :)

I read that in the back of the car while my father took me to discover ice.
YES! Hallelujah! You did it right, CineFix! One question: Where on this list is your nod to Tarkovsky?
So glad you included Celine and Julie on the list! Too many of my friends, even film fans, look at me blankly when I tell them about it. The three-hour length is somewhat daunting, but it flies by even though the film didn’t have the budget or SFX of hits like LoTR.
Pan’s Labyrinth, Spirted Away, and Mirror Mask are my favorite middle fantasy films.
Crouching tiger hidden dragon has been my all time favorite film since I first saw it on VHS in 2000.
Being John Malkovich is such an underrated gem. ❤️
I'm so glad you guys put Big Fish on here! Absolutely Tim Burton's most underrated film, and more people need to see it!
I watched Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives one year ago and was considered to be the best Thai films ever made.
I watched it too; unfortunately, I'd like to have an intellectual discussion as to why it was so good to help me "get it"...
Great list and suggestions!
I will for ever remember the moment everyone kneels before the 4 Hobbits. Gives me chills everytime.
The Green Knight is a all time great fantasy movie , saw it last night, blown away is a understatement
Great to hear it delivers-the preview was so promising!
Any list that mentions Secret of NIMH and the Dark Crystal, along with ranking a Miyazaki movie that isn't Spirited Away is an awesome list, IMO.
19 hours spent well watching the director’s cut of all the LotR films

A very good and comprehensive list! I would have like to see a nod to Ladyhawke.
My friends and I marathoned the LOTR extended cuts at the beginning of the year. We started at like 10:30am and ended right about 1:00am because we had to take a few breaks lol. Best weekend I can remember! Absolute 15/10
Did the same recently for my birthday. Best birthday ever!
Wizard of Oz was my granddaughters favorite movie when she was a child.
KING KONG (1933) with Fay Wray should’ve got some sort of mention on the list. Timeless film. Even the press report for its New York release on March 2nd 1933 summed it up with: “This is film fantasy at its finest.”
So happy to see Howl’s Moving Castle!! ♥️
