I'm in California, and in an area without a coin shop. I find good deals on 1/4th Britannias online, but lately, the Sovereigns are expensive online. I can no longer find them in the low 400's USD range. 1/4 Britannia can be found for under 500 USD. This is while spot was approx. 1800 USD. So I wait until I can find the best possible deal. We also pay tax on bullion purchases under 1500 USD - so the 1 ozt Britannia is one of the best deals out there. You'd have to buy 4 Sovereigns or 3 1/4ths to avoid tax.
That's an interesting consideration yes thanks for the input. At least you can combine multiple coins to hit that threshold. How do quarter oz eagles compare to brits in price generally?
I hold both, i collect alternative design full sovereigns and 1/4oz brits and i stack full sovereign and 1oz britannias, as they are by far the most liquid gold in uk, with lowish premiums . I do feel you need both sizes as you wouldnt want to crack into a full 0z if you only need a few £100, especially in the furture when gold is more expensive . The brits look nicer than the new sovereign no silly red tinge as they are 24k ( well the modern ones are)
I agree the colour of the Brits is much better. A point to consider yes if gold were to surge in price but the cost of your good and services remained fairly flat then it might be a little constricting only having 1 Oz for eg. Any unexpected expenses less than a few thousand £ I wouldn't sell gold for but if I had to stretch a bit for another investment then a chunk of the stack could come in handy
Tough call.. you tell the average Joe you found a box of gold sovereigns compared to finding a box of Britannia's. The sovereign has the instant credibility and history but the Brit is probably a "better" coin technically.
From an investment point of view Full Britannias are up there with Krugerrands as best buy. At around £2100 each today that may be beyond the reach of some. In that case Full Sovereigns are next best. I would avoid anything smaller that a half Sovereign or Half Britannia as the premiums are too high.
Stupid question here, when you see a sovereign dated 1897 for example, is that coin actually from 1897? Or not? Probably a stupid question. Looking to buy my first gold coin, pretty well set on a 1oz Britannia, the price seems mega at the moment so not sure if it’s even a good time to start.
Assuming it is genuine yes usually BUT there are some coins that are 'restrikes' where they are a genuine coin but they were officially made by the relevant mint at a later date. Some examples 1947 Mexican 50 pesos and others I've had more recently were some gold Ducats like here ruclips.net/video/YzQT92u9xnY/видео.html and some other Mexican coins here ruclips.net/video/UJHvTA0wXsA/видео.html
SILVER 🦖!! What's up my guy!? Dude, sweet collection of gold coins. I personally like the 'wave' pattern in the new 2022 Britannias, but that's just me. Thanks for doing the currency conversion because I was like uhhh. 1334 pounds is... Howwww many dollars. 😅 Great video my guy!🧡🇺🇲🤠
There's a few cool videos coming soon, quite a bit of shopping hasn't made it to a video yet. Yes Britannias are a nice coin overall, the security features do beat the sovs
Sovereigns are nice collectable coins; but the Britannia is the better coin as it has higher gold content; if you are investing in bullion. Personally these days I have lost my preference the way gold market has gone up since 2008 I would buy both its all about getting the right deal at that particular time.
Rubbish there both worth there WEIGHT IN GOLD also pure gold or silver ISNT COINAGE STANDARD COINS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE TOUGH NOT SOFT so sterling silver and 22c gold makes more sense as a coin
Sovereigns are King, if they are a key date. Best buy going down the road too buy gold for the grandkids is, 9999 gold grams. What will physical gold be worth in 2050?
It's anyones guess, another 25 years or so a lot can happen. The 25 year low in gold is about £157 and in USD $250 so 8-10x in the time period if you bought there, we'll see if the future reflects a similar trend I guess
Yes there is a reason why the sovereign is cheaper its only 22ct gold, Britannia's are more expensive because it is 24ct investment grade gold for recent issues! Sovereigns cannot be used (normally) to secure an investment in a financial asset as they are not regarded as pure, most exchanges of this type will only accept investment grade. For example buying into a gold back pension.
1/4 gold sovereign is the best to buy today you can buy for £108 thats (£432 agaist today full for £482 tjats £50 saving and rare and eash for many to buy i just boughtt 10 bu paris games limited to 9995 from a mint profit
Sov!!! By a mile! Sovs are real money and historical, Britannia are just generic new bullion. Although I would rather a britannia over a new sov. Mate, you need to bring out the chalkboard, Silver Heist Style! 🤓 If I was British, I would be stacking sovs exclusively!
I only hold Britannias at the moment but I'm planning on getting my first sovereign next month. Its nice to be able to see the size comparison!
Both are easy bought and sold. When I started stacking I wasn't that excited by sovs but finding myself more and more interested
@@SovereignSaurus same but only the victoria or edward VII, much nicer than the modern ones imo
@@spanishjohn420 Nice choices 👌🏽

Check out Santa Clarita really nice coin shop there that pays out over spot
I absolutely love videos like this. Great to know and need to know. Thank you for the inspiration.
Thanks I check prices now and again and you can't argue with the maths.
Nice summary on the premiums. I certainly have way more Sovereigns than I do Britannias.
Yes me too. If I were forced to choose I'd go sovs but when the price is right I'm happy to pick up Brits also

Britannia’s have the security features and are just a better looking coin.
A solid case for the Brits yes especially the 2021 and 2022 coins
Tough call.. you tell the average Joe you found a box of gold sovereigns compared to finding a box of Britannia's. The sovereign has the instant credibility and history but the Brit is probably a "better" coin technically.
Yes pros and cons to both other than price. I agree the security features on the brit was something I had noted but forgot to mention

I like the Britanannias personally but like you mentioned i would pickup a Sov. if I am getting a good deal.
Yeh they're a nice coin, plus the security features on the Brit are clearly ahead of the sov
Gold just looks so beautiful!
I KNOW! It pops!
It really is!

Premiums influence my purchasing so I find Sovereigns favorable here in the States.
Good call. Got to watch those premiums

Britannia's seem like the best value for pure gold content. They also look like Gold, rather then that pink colour the modern Sovereigns have.
Yeah it seems a lot of people prefer them

I buy both the sovereign and quarter Oz brit
Nice 👍🏼
I’m starting to think that stacking sovereign coins are a better option than stacking fractional gold.
Nice, stack em high 👍🏼
Great comparison and stick to sovs always!
You got it 👌🏽
Sovereigns are neat Imperial 1/4oz vs troy
👌🏽
I like Gold Britannia better.
Cool. Still a good option and popular too.
Well for me…I like the coin to be labeled with the gold content so Britannia
I do like that about the Mexican gold and silver I have actually, great point
I think sovereign is king, just for the widespread recognition & trade volume.
Yes good point. I'm sure more people on the street would have heard of a gold sovereign than a gold Britannia
Sovereigns are King, if they are a key date.

I was only buying 1/4 brits but sovs per gram work out cheaper so it's all I buy now
Typically yes, there's the chance that some very keenly priced quarter oz coins come up on sale but otherwise it tends to be the case
@@SovereignSaurus Atkinson's sometimes do a two coin deal on a 1/4 brit and sov. It's mostly when I'll get one

Gold sovereigns are much more negotiable, and more collectable.
Best deal are britanias 1oz coins
They can be yes depending on the dealer, quantities etc.
