I have a feeling that 1oz coins are going to be really hard to sell in the near future. I think fractional is best for now so sovereigns for me personally. Liquidity is key going forward.
For fractional, Older Sovereigns just make perfect sense to me. Cheaper Premiums - Historical Value & potential protection - Easy to handle and store - Well recognised and Extremely liquid. 👍
The sovereigns and Britannia are very nice and have both. The difference in color is because the sovs are 22kt like AGE where as the Britannia are 24kt I will continue to buy both depending on premiums. Great video mate.
Britannias for me. I am all about bullion weight, purity of gold and substance. I am investing long term. Sovs are defo good, but Britannias serve my purpose better. Fractional Britannias are good to have for liquidity and quick sales, but I absolutely love the ouncers. The tax efficiency is ace too. Historical value and collectability is not as important to me as it's all about the gold and the intrinsic value.
I like the Sovereign coins, but wish they were more gold looking. I only haver one and its a half-Sov. I'm embarrassed to say that I know nothing about it. LOL
As an American I love to stack the pre 1933 gold. Eagles and half eagles usually have a lower premium than bouillon. I do also stack lots of Britannia fractional and 1 oz gold coins. I have yet to buy any sovereigns as they are not very available here. Thanks for the video
Hi FI, Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that Obverse (heads) is the front of the coin and the Reverse (tails) is the back. So, Charlie on the Sovereign and Queenie on the Britannia are the front face of the coins (Obverse) and the interesting stuff that we like and buy the coins for is on the back face (Reverse).
Both are a beautiful investment. Sovereign are 22 K' gold, whilst the Britannia are 24 K' gold not stated being the difference. So the Britannia would cost more to purchase.
Hi, I’m looking for some advice, I’m new to collecting stacking, I’m looking at 1/4oz gold Britannia or a half full sovereign also the King Charles coronation half sovereign proof. Which do you think is the better option ? Malcolm
You already know what I'm going to say man!!! 🤭 Sov's all day long. You got a nice sovereign, but it's the WRONG colour. (Hehe) Really good facts F.I, well done.👍🏴
The colour of sovereign's depends on what metal the royal mint decides to mix with the gold to make 22crt it may be silver or it could be copper this metal is added to make the coins stronger and last longer if used as cash that was what they were made for in the first place Britannia's are 24crt and to soft to be used as cash they are usually kept in plastic containers so as not to get them scratched.
hypothetically, if in 20 years no one cared for sovreign or britiannia coins since you can't melt them, is it possible for the price of these coins to go under the price of the metal? might be a stupid question, but i want to long term invest in gold and silver and not sure the best way to go about doing so.
I believe the Sovereigns will be back to yellow gold in a couple of years. I also favour the security of a Britannia. And they always the 1/4oz coins which are only slightly larger then a sovereign if you want a smaller coin.
There is no better option of the 2 examples. Britannias are NOT slightly newer, they are alot newer. My oldest britannia is late 1990s whereas my oldest sovereign is 1843. Sovereigns after 2000 are more coppery because they are 22ct gold with cheaper copper. Earllier sovereigns contained some silver so they are more yellow. To say britannias are more yellow than sovereigns is misleading. Some britannias are 22ct gold, pre 2013 and are slightly bigger due to them containing a full troy ounce of gold. Ive been involved in precious metals for 8 years, and it only in the last few that ive felt knowledgeable enough to give advice. Here goes, buy sovereigns if you've got cash that would otherwise be sitting in a bank, choose best value from a reputable company and avoid high premium numismatics until you've learnt the pitfalls.
Looking to buy a few coins, and calculating the actual price-per-gold I can see a real advantage of sovereigns vs. britanias for the same amount of value (counting exactly the grams of gold and comparing it to the price)... am I missing anything here?
I have both and will continue to have both 1oz Britannia and full sovereign. For uk citizen for logical and financial reasons they should be seen are equal. Sovereigns also come in various sizes from 1/4 sovereign to 5 sovereign. For entirely personal preference reasons you may prefer one over the other , im not personally a fan of the red colour of modern sovereigns but that is purely a matter of the heart and shouldn't cloud your judgement. Btw
@@FutureInvestmentsBullion I also collect alternative design 1/4 Britannia both bullion and proof along with alternative design sovereign.... there is a big difference between collection and stack, logic is less important for the collection. My gold collection also has a couple of bars and some foreign coins like Indian heads and 1/4 libertads
Gold is gold... especially since both have the same tax status. As long as you buy according to gold content it makes no difference in my opinion With exception of some special designs (I always wanted the tudor sovereign design they made in 1989) but these are numistmatics not merely bullion. And no the sovereigns dont normally have a royal crest, the default is St George and the dragon.
Very well said! I always say it’s better to hold some Gold instead of No Gold. Small or Large. Great Info regarding the Sov designs too. Thanks for watching Dave.
Why have a headline stating one is good and the other is bad, when there is no bad of either. One can be more expensive because it has a Ittle more gold.
I just much prefer and love the look/colour of pure 24k than 22k, if there was a 24k sovereign the size of an ounce that would be cool to see i saw an isle of man angel ounce online before but not in person. The Brittania's detail and security features are really impressive. An of all the gold coin sizes, i just love the ounce, half ounces are nice, i got a quarter ounce the other day an its nice but 400 odd for it just feels hefty, even though an ounce is 3 and abit times more but it just feels more satisfactory and complete/worth it. I would love some of the earlier decade prices but cant do much about that 😂
I agree with you there! Very true regarding the prices of the 1/4 ounce but in a decade from now people will wish they were still the prices from today!
You didn't mention that Sovereigns are 91.67% pure while Britannia's are 99.99% pure since 2013. I would rather a coin that is 99.99%, the same as gold bar bullion. Britannia's also come in half, quarter, and tenth of an ounce.
Dude seriously do your research first next time. You mentioned nothing about the fact the sov is 22kt vs the Britania 24kt, hence the different colour and more importantly the sovs can be much bigger. The £2 sov is only a bit smaller than the 1oz Britania but the £5 sov is considerably bigger than the 1oz Britania.
Personally I hate the new sovereign colour. But sovereigns are much better value per OZ compared to quarter Oz or half Oz Brits. So for me it’s 1OZ Brits or older Sovs
It's got to be the Sovereign for me! It's all about the history 👌I do prefer the older yellow sov's though 🔥 Great video as always mate
Yes! We do love the History! Thanks for watching mate!
@@FutureInvestmentsBullion It's no problem at all, great videos as always mate 👍

Very well said Sy. I completely agree with you! 😊
I too, think that 1oz gold is going to be a liquidating issue, I'm considering switching into more sovereigns or even diversifying into platinum,
Really enjoyed this, love how much research goes into all your videos!
Thankyou mate! Yes, most of it does definitely not come off the top of my head! Haha..
Britannia is the better coin for security features, purity, and design. IMO. Another Great video 👍🏻
I agree with you there. Thankyou mate.

Very well described if anyone was looking for reasons to boy Sov's!

Thanks for the info Bruce. That’s once piece of critical information I didn’t know. Thanks for the update.
Royal mint lists both as say 1oz as an example, both 999.9 gold so I don’t understand, please explain? Thanks.
I have a nice 1980 Australian sovereign that's a nice yellow colour.
Oh awesome. It sounds great.
Love both!😁
I can understand that 😃

Very interesting video mate! I plan to get some sovereigns in the future
That's awesome mate. Look forward to seeing them join your stack!
I like the Sovereign coins, but wish they were more gold looking. I only haver one and its a half-Sov.

I knew little aswell intill I researched for this episode mate!
Sovereigns 22 carot Britannia's 24 carot
Being from the united states i must say these brittanias are beautiful. Definitely will own one some day
That’s awesome to hear!

Very true.
Interesting, I always compare Ducats and Philharmonics. 👍
Sorry? What’s a Ducat?
For me its curently i can afford 12 half sofvs and 8 full a year and thats what i stack i also buy 1oz of silver coin each month just incase
Amazing work!

Legend as always!
Premiums on Sovereigns are better. More gold for less money. Weight stackers want more for less.
Cheers 🥃
That’s awesome to know.
Yes sovereigns have 0.4 gm than a 1/4 britannia, but the mark up of a britannia is around £40 while the sovereign is around £20, do the maths
Why have a headline stating one is good and the other is bad, when there is no bad of either.
