for anyone wondering, here is joey's animal list (in chronological order):
    - Wolf (male husky, rescued from craigslist (?) as puppy)
    - Storm (male husky, white, adopted from a rescue as puppy, lives w Daniel)
    - Lark (female husky/german shepherd mix, adopted from a rescue as puppy (?), lives w Daniel)
    - Lark had babies (accident at doggy daycare)! seven of them (Red, Teal, Lavender, Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue)
    - Moon (male husky, kept one of lark's babies-Teal)
    - Shadow (male husky, J&D tried to keep Lark's baby Red, but Moon & Shadow struggled with littermate syndrome so Shadow was rehomed like the others)
    - Sakura (black female pregnant rescue cat) (kept her)
    - Sakura's kittens, the zodiac litter (Gemini, Taurus, Aquarius, Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
    - Azula (female foster cat, was pregnant but lost the litter)
    - Hen (foster mama from junkyard)
    - junkyard pups (Duck, Goose, Shark, Otter, Bear, Moose)
    - foster mama dog Roo
    - Roo's litter (Hare, Tiger, Bison, Panda, Raccoon, Monkey)
    - Daenerys (white foster mama kitty)
    - D's kitties, the Greek Goddess litter (Athena, Persephone, Aphrodite, Nemesis, Rhea)
    - took care (for a couple of days) of a mama duck and her 9 babies that wandered into his backyard and got stuck
    - May (foster mama husky)
    - May's babies, the Months litter (January, February, March, April, June, July, August, September, October, November, December)
    - Coco (husky foster mama pt2, false pregnancy, surrogate to Disney pups)
    - husky babies abandoned in box (Disney litter--Copper, Pluto, Bolt, Scar, Bruno, Darla)
    - Daisy (husky foster mama pt3)
    - Daisy's babies (flower/tree litter; Goldie, Lilly, and Daphne didn't make it; Ash, Cyprus, Oren)
    - Lacey/Onyx (black & white foster kitty mamma)
    - Lacey/Onyx's kittens, gem litter (Opal, Pearl, Peridot, Flint, Mica, Jasper)
    - 4 blind frenchies
*Montana/Monty (female golden retriever) is often in videos; she is Daniel's (Joey's ex) dog, but often comes to Joey doggy daycare
*the babies are usually adopted by other people (other than Moon) and then renamed! some of them have instagrams and have shared their new names/stories, but I'm not including those here
*I first created this list a long time ago and add to it every time Joey takes in a new animal...because I have it saved I just copy/paste it onto every (I try, but it's more like "most") animal-related video he posts, so no, it actually doesn't take a lot of my time or effort. I just like lists. Thank you to everyone who is giving thanks about the amount of effort though haha!

Advice for the poopy pens: (My sister was a dog breeder for many years and I also raised pups.) half of the pen needs to have either puppy pads or newspaper. Half of the pen needs to be bedding. Change the blankets regularly and keep a little bit of poop or pee on the other side of the pen. They don’t want to poop in their beds and the are scent driven. All of my sisters litters were puppy pad trained by 6 weeks with this method.

    • @Startledmayo

I agree - I have had Newfoundland puppies and we did the half-half way with pads and bedding - even with no sight they should be able to distinguish then especially if you leave a bit of poop at the end where you want them to go xx

I raised two blind mini dachshunds. Tapping on the floor for vibrations or an object around you, snapping your fingers and light clapping to help them locate you. They will “map” their surroundings and running into something they haven’t mapped..happens. It’s okay. Let them use their other senses, like smell and sound. Try not to change anything they’ve already mapped. Food, water, shelter, etc. toys are okay they will need to use those senses to find them. They will thrive and live a long healthy beautiful life!

I fostered puppies for a while and a lot of people recommended using a litter pan with wood pellets. For some reason the puppies are attracted to the smell and want to go potty there. I did it once with two German shepherd type puppies and it actually worked! They were using it most of the time after about a week 😊 I don’t know if that would work if they’re blind though 😢

Luckily the vets did not euthanize them, and we were able to rescue them!! today they are each 2.5 years old and their eyes are doing amazing! I used to do a lot of rescue, many batches of puppies. I started with housebreaking as soon as they were big enough to walk by carrying them outside as soon as they would wake up, after any cuddle time, play time, and after each meal. It meant they relieved themselves outside most of the time and learned to do that.

    Tips for less poopy pens:
Have a big cardboard box like the ones they sell flour in at the supermarket (ask an employee for it, should be more than a meter wide) and they only sleep in that one with newspapers (!!) in half of the pen and a felt blanket in the other half for sleeping. And drape a blanket on top of half the cardboard box like over the felt side of the pen, to create a dark space where they sleep, and they quickly learn to pee and poop on the newspaper. When they wake up - quickly put them on the newspaper so they relieve themselves, then change out the newspaper for new clean newspaper - easier clean up. When they are 4 weeks old they then only sleep in the cardboard box, and run around in like the whole kitchen during the day, and outside sometimes if it's summer (I live in Sweden soooo it's usually too cold out other seasons).
If you wake up to a puppy poopsplosion, you put the puppies away for a minute and change the blanket and the newspapers and then put the pupps back. Buuuut... you live alone but in my family one person wakes up at 6AM and manages to catch the pupps right before they step in their own poo and takes them out of the cardboard box before then, and another person like takes the day shift with feeding and picking up their pee and soiled newspaper during the day before they manage to step in it, and another person (me) like takes the night shift with letting them play in the kitchen until they are tired and picking up after them and putting them back in the cardboard box to sleep. BUT you live in LA so you could just scoop them up directly when they wake up and put them outside to poop and pee and do your usual routine with switching the outside pen fence around on the yard and using water to hose the soiled grass which is great! I just wanted to give the tip with the newspaper and trying to catch the poopy newspaper before they step in it, because having to clean the pups takes so much effort, and they have to get dried properly or they might get too cold and shakey. I love how they weren't dramatic when you bathed them! Our pups usually squeals and weeps. But disclaimer, toy poodles usually only get 2 pups per litter, so having as many as you have is difficult, especially without the mother in the picture and withour her milk and her cleaning up after the pups, aaand their blindness. You're doing great Joey!

    @Craftgirly 2 года назад +1

I asked hubby about ideas and he recommends putting down some newspaper and on top place wood shavings, so when they roll around, most of the poop will come off. Just make sure if you use wood shavings they don’t have any metal in it.

I totally agree with making half the pen wee wee pads, the other half bedding. Put them on the wee pads after eating, etc. If possible, make a second pen and get some baby wipes. When they get yucky, pick them up, wipe them off and put them in the clean pen. They will be relatively clean, basically dry, and not get too cold from bathing. They are going to get poopy. After they are in the clean pen, you can toss out the wee pads and throw the dirty bedding in the laundry then prep that pen for the next round. Once they get healthier and trained on the wee pads, your life will be easier. I have a blind puppy right now. She took to the wee pads very quickly and as she got older very rarely steps in mess anymore. Bless you for caring for these angels

Unfortunately this the result of poor breeding by a back yard breeder. The blindness is most likely congenial and a result of the parents having bad genetics. You rarely see this with responsible breeders since they do genetic testing when needed.

This is exactly what happened with two of my cats devastatingly. Our local vet had two clients bring their cat in to be spayed claiming that they didn't notice she was full-term pregnant with 4 kittens and insisted that they just euthanise them. Our vet refused and kept the mother with the kittens for the necessary amount of time before reaching out to us to foster the kittens. We ended up keeping 2 and the other 2 went to a lovely family together💖I will never understand how people can just treat animals as commodities.

Hey Joey! I think what you are doing is absolutely awesome. It's clear based on these puppies backstory and coat color that they came from a backyard breeder or puppy mill situation. I wanted to just say to not worry if the pups (especially the two Merle puppies and the light gray pup) have poorer health overall and stay blind. The merle gene is associated with causing blindness when two merle dogs are bred together. Its very sad because clearly these pups were bred only for their coat color so they could be sold at a "premium price" and were dumped/wanted to be euthanized when they couldn't turn a profit.
I am certain that their malnutrition is contributing to lots of problems, I just don't want you to feel like a failure if it turns out their blindness is genetic as well!

My niece has a blind, deaf, old dog that no one pays attention to since it isn’t young or isn’t the “dream” and seeing you do this makes me so happy knowing there are still nice people in the world. ❤️

This touched my heart. I recently lost my blind pug Bella. She was my soulmate and I miss her terribly. Her sight went as she aged and her adaptability and resilience was incredible. Watch, those puppies will surprise you with how independent they can be. I can’t wait to see them thrive and I know they’re in incredible hands!

I bought a bunch of towels for our puppies and when they poo on them rinse off excess and throw them in the washer. It makes cleanup so much easier. Thank you being such a kind person and animal warrior.📿📿📿God bless you.

I wish I could adopt one, they are so damn cute. They sure won't have a hard time finding those sweet babies homes once it's time. Puppies usually poo about 15 minutes after they eat so if you feed them in the pen then take them out of there about 10 minutes later and leave them out until they poo then put them back there will be less poo in the morning. I also picked up the poo pretty much as soon as they would go while I was awake. Any left around will be walked in especially by a blind puppy. Puppies just don't care. lol You should notice a schedule appearing if you feed them at the same time every day, you should be able to figure out when they poop the most and be ready for it.
Also, idk what the vet said but that is a lot of food for 4 puppies so they will poop a lot. It's just what it is.

I would put them on wood shavings for a bit, start with the whole pen and they are absorbent and they wont track. You can scoop out the poo and pee spots and keep them cleaner that way. As they adjust you can reduce the amount of shavings to half and then just a small litter box area which makes it easier to potty train later. If you haven't look up Puppy culture, I used the methods from it on my foster litters and it made for great well rounded puppies when they were ready for homes. Oh also make sure to use a wood like aspen as it won't hurt their respiratory systems like pine or cedar. some people use a paper base bedding like carefresh, i had issues with my pups trying to eat it. Best of luck to you and these sweet babies.

You are wonderful! That being said I watched a vet teach owners to bath their pups. Make sure their back feet are on the bottom of sink that makes them staple. They will not shake so much. The vet suggested putting pup or kitten in a small bucket so they can stand firmly and put their front paws in the rim at the top of the bucket they will feel so much more secure and easier to bath them on top and underneath. Good luck

I can’t wait to see these babies grow and get better with you!!!! I saw your other video with them and i have learned (having a dog with separation anxiety and an old man who forgets he is not a puppy and have to take lots of medication) if you are giving the puppies pills and they are not swallowing them, blow gently on their nose. Trust me, it works!

Blindness is either from ivermectin (worming medication) overdose or attributed to the Merle which is not a colour in French bulldogs, Merle comes from crossing with another breed to get the designer mutt. Frenchies tails are born short so if it’s long enough to need docking then it’s a throw back to the other breed. Put cat collars on them or bells on the collars so they can hear each other and you can hear them. They will adapt to their other senses very quickly. 🐾

The term for cutting the tail short is docking! Many breeders attempt to do it at home by using that string or rubber band method where it basically stops blood flow from the appendage and it essentially dies off if everything goes right. However when doing it on the tail it has to also go through bone which isn’t as easy or clean sometimes it can cause infection, necrosis of the entire tissue not just what’s beyond the string or rubber band and pain of course :/

  • @michellecaudle9413

Love that you foster all these animals, hopefully they turn into healthy puppies. Also it looks like the breeder tried to do an at home tail docking, so keep an eye out for any neurological damage as they get older.
