- Faith Newman signed Nas to Columbia Records in the fall of 1991, but even she couldn't predict the heights he'd be taken to after the release of Illmatic. Heights that "probably none of us could imagine." Before the timeless album turns the big 2-5 tomororw, catch up with our "The Architects of Illmatic" series with #Hennessy on our RUclips, including extended conversations with Newman, Pete Rock and more. #IllmaticXXV

Her energy is non wasteful , calm and straight forward.
Illmatic one of the best Album in Music history. Period
Should be no brainer
The best album in hip hop history, no album touch illmatic level
Well said. Well said
Faith gives off a calm, beautiful and semi-mysterious vibe. Kinda like Nas, actually.
WORD LIFE GREAT TRUE POST YO !! makes her sexy btw lol
nas was beating her guts up. It's in a book too lol
@@lo8020 stop lying
Thank You Faith Newman for your vision and passion getting this MASTERPIECE out. ♥
The album that brought me back to Hip Hop.. When Kane and Rakim didn't transition to the 90s well.. I left it. Nas brought me back. Salute Nas.
Rakim didn't transition to 90s? Each to their own i suppose.
Big facts! #MusikNoteEnt/J2MG 💯 #hiphophistory
@@rippedtorn2310 Have a seat. He didn't. Neither did Kane. They found their footing towards the back end on the 90s. Rakim with the 18th Letter in late 97. Kane on underground appearances.
@@SDSOverfiend If you completely ignore Juice etc that totally owned all of early to mid 90s ...then shit changed for sure.
SDS Overfiend partially agree with that. Eric and Ra released Don't Sweat The Technique in early 92 and it was a classic. Kane's album's in the 90's were average though.
She has to be the realest A&R ever
Such a great woman and a great ear for music.
Faith Newman is beautiful
She seems much more humble, personable and affable than Sophia Chang lol but I guess both get their work done in different ways. Faith really seems to suit a professional and personal relationship with Nas, so laid back and calculated.
Faith was an integral part of hip hop starting from the early days. Much respect to Faith for helping progress the art thru all the years
Best album in the history of rap music 👌
visionary thank you!
it;s amazing that these backstories add so much insight to making the album. will watch all, "The Architects" series. It's like anyone that remembers when Illmatic dropped, there was multiple pressings of the CD. I had the first day release that was red, but i remember seeing a different colour label years later in a 2nd hand store. It's like adding the symphony creates a regal flair to a legendary collection of music that lets the OG generation reflect, and remember 1994, and how much we have grown up and expanded our musical palette.
Faith really believed in Nas vision
I love this, we need more things like this breaking down old albums and paying homage to artists. Thanks Hennessy
"Biggie's Ready to Die album came out several months after Illmatic, and Biggie was crowned king of New York in the popular culture of Hip Hop heads, Ready to Die unfairly over-shadowed Illmatic, which is truly a classic album. Though they were quite distinct artists, they innovated in analogous ways. Biggie merged language that was high and low, vernacular and vocabulary words, in a way that sounded natural. He did this with a sophisticated understanding of the patterns of black language. When a different or unusual word or phrase could be introduced while still maintaining the aesthetics of black language, he inserted it.
NaS, in contrast, merged concepts that were high and low, vernacular and metaphysical, in a manner that was whole rather than pieced together, thus presenting a complex that is unusual in any music outside of jazz. What Biggie started to do with language in 1994, NaS had already begun to do with ideas on Illmatic. He carries us through the "Righteous steps" of the cosmic, oceanic, and literal dimensions of his person. He transcends." - Imany Perry (Born To Use Mics)
Two goats 🐐
Dope. Had to google her. Saw the pic in the hockey jersey with Extra P, Tip, Preem, Nas...I'm not gonna lie, she was looking like some work 😁
I wonder if it was a fight to be taken seriously in the industry at the time? Obviously dudes were gonna be trying her from all angles...
Sit down kiddies, another Nas Story!
Great contribution for putting this album out Faith !
Man I really like this woman and her place in hip-hop. I think Nas would've been successful one way or the other, just people can cross our paths, that make things the way they are as well.
Nas is the greatest
MC Search got Nas signed to Columbia Records
along wit this lady here .....they both did tbh..but search was the one who put him on the track and then later put him contact wit faith newman.........beautiful origin story if i'm being honest !
Thank you lady for making the right move , now its history
Damn she mustve been a teen too.

That One Love symphony joint sounds like a James Bond theme song.
A piece of my life
So nice
00:23 ....now I understand why I drank a bottle of Henny yesterday
You drank Henny because they paid for product placement in a RUclips video?
She sounds like she is in love with Nas.. I know he hit, I can tell.
where is the interview faith newman did with nas when illmatic xx dropped in 2014? its no longer anywhere online
I wonder what would’ve been the other 2 tracks if it would have came out as 12 tracks
What is the password to the Mass Appeal Shop? I'm trying to buy the Vinyl
Imagine if illmatic never came out
She’s beautiful
no Faith = no Illmatic

No dis but I always wonder whn I see some folks how they know certain thg abt certain genres. How certain folks are in high powers of creative controls etc

Greg C Yea...She made a mistake. They started working on Illmatic in 91, so i guess she had dates mixed up.
@@kayodeodusanya5751 actually I was talking about how long I had been in the music business...
@@faithnewman238 Thank you for having faith, and for keeping the faith... Thank you Faith.
Okay. Thanks for making sure Nas got signed to Columbia.
fuck i feel so stupid, my entry ticket to nas was "it was written" haha i dont get illmatic
Illmatic is the most overrated album of all time !!!
Ready To Die/Doggystyle/The Chronic are far better albums but they don’t get talked about like Illmatic does
You out of your god damn mind.
Yes, great albums, great productions. I remember house parties and clubs and people going crazy. But when I first heard the purity and rawness of Illmmatic, and when I listen to it today, I remember walking the streets of New York in that era.
Rick Harding you’re crazy, all those albums you mentioned do get talked about all the time when the subject of best hip hop album of all time comes up
First off Ready To Die was influenced by illmatic. And those other 2 Albums can easily be put in The Top 10. So they all get talked about Hip-Hop's GREATEST ERA.
Memory Love the cover art of ready to die was even influenced by illmatic as well
Illmatic one of the best Album in Music history. Period
