    • @brianb-p6586
      @brianb-p6586 2 года назад

      The "dyne" is an obsolete unit of force (from the old CGS system), not a measure of density or viscosity or anything else that might be called "thickness" of a fluid. Presumably you meant dynamic viscosity in mPa·s or the CGS equivalent of "centipoise"... and yes, water has a dynamic viscosity about 1 mPa·s (or 1 centipoise) so 0.5 mPa·s would be half of that (or 0.5 centipoise).

      @@jackj5368 carli now offers f450 f550 suspension. Still leaning the liquid spring direction. Carli kind of did something dumb, they made active suspension, but it is not compatible with the f450 f550 rear end. The shittyest part of the vehicle that needs the most help. So things are progressing in the right direction, but nobody seems to be competitive with liquid spring except for kelderman, and I think that falls alittle short, except it is alot more reasonable

      Much of the rear system cost is the conversion from leaf springs to control arms, and that cost would be the same if using coil springs or air springs. But yes, all of the parts (control arms for leaf replacement, struts and valves and secondary volumes for all spring positions, and the control system for the vehicle) are expensive.

    This doesn’t look great for off-road use. You have to have suspension travel both up and down… Articulation is mandatory when off-roading. These don’t seem like they would provide any significant amount of the articulation required to be useful off-road.

    • @brianb-p6586
      @brianb-p6586 2 года назад

      You can see just some of the suspension travel as they demonstrate changing the ride height. There's no reason to expect any less travel than the stock suspension, and travel is likely better than with leaf springs. It might worth asking LiquidSpring for confirmation of suspension travel.

    I wouldn’t call it the suspension of the future. Lexus Land Cruisers have had hydraulic suspension (AHC) since the 100 series.

    • @brianb-p6586
      @brianb-p6586 2 года назад +1

      No, they don't use the hydraulic fluid as the springs.

    • @KesselRunLX
      @KesselRunLX 2 года назад

      @@brianb-p6586 The AHC suspension on the 100 series does in fact perform much of the spring function as well as the shock function. The LX470 has much thinner front torsion bars and rear springs than the conventional suspension Land Cruiser as the fluid system is used to make up the difference. The beauty of that system is it is a DIY job to convert to conventional suspension.

    • @brianb-p6586
      @brianb-p6586 2 года назад +1

      @@KesselRunLX Yes, the Lexus Active Height Control system largely replaces the steel springs, and could replace them entirely if desired. It uses hydraulic fluid to transmit force, but the hydraulic fluid is not the spring - the spring is the gas in the gas chambers (there is at least one gas chamber per shock/strut/cylinder). The amount of fluid between the suspension and the gas is changed to adjust the ride height, but the springing is always done by the gas. The gas chambers are essentially the same as the "spheres" in older European suspension systems; in contrast, the LiquidSpring secondary volumes are like the gas chambers but with no gas, depending on only compressibility of the liquid. Compressing gas as a spring and compressing the hydraulic fluid as a spring is critical difference (and not much of an advantage, if any).
      A full AHC system with roll control is more sophisticated than LiquidSpring's system, which just keeps each wheel's suspension separate and controls only ride height plus switching to stiffer springing for transients.
