atheism was popular in Ancient Greece? Can you give me something to back it up (note, I'm legit curious)? I know that the standard religion was the usual Greek polytheism with some syncretism from time to time, and it was usually for the average person. The wiser people however followed a sort of theistic philosophy like that of Plato or Aristotle. Their philosophical ideas actually remained in Greece even after Christianity took over when it threw out polytheism (although they didn't do so good under Justinian's reign). Byzantine Christianity (later Eastern Orthodox) still had close ties with those philosophies when they were revived in the second medieval period. Sorry, I really don't know why I went on a rant like that. I like the Byzantine era as well, or dare I call it, Eastern Roman Empire's era
Thanks for the info. I would add that people back then seemed to have been growing skeptical not of theism in general but in the kind of fable-like stories of the gods. In one account a man asked one of the philosophers (I think it was Aristotle) if he actually thought that the god of wind took some princess away (sorry can't remember the details) and he responded by adding that it was symbolic and that it meant that the princess was just blown away by the wind (off a cliff I think), meaning that they back then knew how to reject stories of half-naked dudes on a mountain and accept complex philosophical ideas of a supernatural Being(s). Also I don't think Epicures was an atheist per ce, I think he believed in the existence of gods just that he didn't care about them. Also this would be the period that people took the theogony of Hesiod as more representing the creation not of actual gods but that those ''gods'' (or rather titans) were more like aspects in some sense that resulted in the creation of the world (like coming from chaos and Chronos being time itself and not an actual being). It still had a supernatural view in any case. As for the Sadducees, I can't call them atheists but rather just a sect with no view of an after-life. The rest I agree especially the part with Augustus.

The book of Hebrews says that Esau could not get his inheritance back even though he sought it with tears. This is to say that apostates cannot return to the faith. It seems to be a direct allusion to the story of the Prodigal Son, which contradicts it. Your thoughts?
its almost comical just how many gods they are trying to give the same backstory as Jesus. They aren't discrediting him, they are discrediting themselves. Not a single one of these Gods had the same character as Jesus no matter how many parallels you can make between them, none of them could come close to who he was and how he lived a completely selfless life
Yeah, because it's not like they couldn't overlap the basic tenants and create a new version. Literally much of Jesus' message is found in Buddhist texts. And you didn't know Jesus personally, so you have no idea who or how he was. If you claim to have any mystical experience of him, what you know of him is from a thought form created by human ideas of him over time.

Matthew ch19. "...those who become eunics for the kingdom of heaven". This sounds like the cult of Attis and Cybele. There was an early strand of Christianity that incorporated aspects of this cult.
Are you gonna cover Adonis? Adonis is the only one that comes close to having a sufficiently ancient reference to being born near the Winter Solstice. But even that is only from Ovid, pre-Christian but not pre when Jesus was born. Ovid had Adonis conceived on April 15th and so probably born in mid January.
You know what I've noticed in all of these? The vast majority of them assume birthdays on December 25th, when if they did just a TINY bit of research, they would realize that December 25th isn't exactly Jesus's birthday, but an estimated calculation. In other words, the very mention of December 25th as a birthday for these idols is an immediate "yea you're copying Christianity, not the other way around" moment.
Actually, it is Marsyas who is sacrificed and hung from a tree Herodotus among others wrote about it. Christ being compared to Marsyas is saying Jesus essentially was a failure.
Except young Earth Creationism has actual science to it. Atheists just can't do math, and think large numbers are alien and impressive. If the universe and Earth was as old as they say... all the top soil on Earth would've eroded, the moon would've gone out of orbit, the galaxies would've lost their arms, and we'd have a lot less stars.
Another saying which equity applies is this: everyone is entitled to their own opinions but not their own facts. History states Jesus existed. That's a historical fact. A person doesn't have to believe it, but it does not change the historical evidence.
utopiabuster 2017 just because you know what the best thing is, doesn't mean you do it. Perhaps Gods thoughts are instantaneous simply because he lives in the universal instant. I wonder if that clears things up for you
Omniscience and omnipotence are near-nonsensical concepts, based off crude human ideas. God is everywhere, made everything, and so knows everything. But does he know what isn't? In Greek thinking, the past, present, and future all exist simultaneously, in a long thread. In Hebrew thinking... there is no such idea, there is only the present. Einstein proved this, when he showed time is just a variable in energy dynamics. We'll never be able to travel back in time, because the past no longer exists. Nor can we go to the future, except by waiting patiently. So God knows the past and the present since he made those and was there, but what about the future? Obviously, God knows just about everything in the future, His predictive powers are beyond our comprehension. I'd say the Lord knows everything, unless He specifies He doesn't.
Thanks, everyone for your replies. The basis for my request is that atheist make this argument all the time, and, regardless how theist, or we, as Christians understand the concepts it is still very compelling and complicated to argue coherently and effectively. I've been following IP for some time now and find his presentations exceptional and professional. That being the case I'm confident that he can correlate all the information on support of there being no conflict between omniscience and omnipotence in that coherent fashion we've come to depend of from him. Thanks IP for the reply. You're video will go a long way in helping me to argue more effectively. God Bless.
InspiringPhilosophy, By the way IP, I support your ministry 100% and I know it doesn't have to be said but my current financial situation i, unfortunately, have to be frugal with my money. I'm expecting that situation to change presently, and as soon as I'm able I will contribute to your worthwhile cause. You're presentations are very professional and I know require a lot of effort and resources. My wish is to start an outreach program for youth who experience a crisis of faith. Especially those who leave home for the secular world. I strongly believe that apologetics is one way to circumvent them leaving their Faith. As long as we have rational and logical responses to atheist assertions I'm sure endangered youth will choose to remain in Christ. Once again, thank you and God Bless.
Hey IP! How are you? I was wondering if you could answer some questions I have about the Modal Ontological Argument. 1) What defines greatness? Greatness can be seen in a Moral/Aesthetic way. Godel warns against this approach. He says it is closer platonic ideals (but not abstract objects). I can't find a good objective basis to place these ideals. It can't be God because I'm wondering why God has certain ideals. It seems much easier to define good here in a purely moral way. (My approach has been greatest utilitarian good without violating the categorical imperative while also being personal so it can objectively ought to be a certain way-ought implies can, but I admit this last part definitely has problems) 2. Why is there a sort of asymmetry in the argument? I'm referring to why is the greatest possible thing necessary rather than the worst possible thing necessary. They would contradict if they were both necessary. So which one? You may respond using the end of your first video answering objections to the Modal Ontological Argument. Again without first understanding greatness why must the best or worst possible thing be personal? Couldn't it be just as bad if it was not conscious. It would still terrorize just as much. If you solve the first question this question I think becomes easier. If necessity is an ideal then the worst possible thing would not have it. It would be a contingent thing. Thanks man. Your ministry has truly helped me in my faith! God bless! Edit:Sorry but if you don't answer by your next video I'm going to copy and paste it so you hopefully see my comment! I really want to know what you think!
Javid Seyad Ahmed Hey. There is no useful comparison between them. Jesus was a historical figure who claimed to be God himself, who died for all of humanity so we may live and was resurrected. Buddha was a disillusioned prince who was never divine, attempted to cease existing and who himself died. This is a useful start to look into this a bit more : dieverdediger.tumblr.com/post/157775140691/are-christianity-and-buddhism-the-same-g-k
The resurrection is the the man dying under the pine tree ....mans lower nature is cut off under the pine tree or pineal gland similar to jacob at geneisis 32:30.....
As both a former Roman Catholic and an anthropologist I can assure you that the myth of Jesus is just that and is from astrotheology which in the old world with a required basic science connecting astronomy in theology as well as the body. It's not particularly that is taken from this character one would even be more comparable to Horus but too many others including Krishna Buddha Mithra Dionysus just to name a few more it's more based on the setting of the Sun not the s o n the sun as far as the virgin that's really more to do with the constellation of the maiden which is why most of their mother's names tend to start with m as well as the constellation of Virgo however I digress and as much as his name that is a direct take from a Canaanite reference to a son to the god El named Jedud it's just that s and d are letters that were sometimes interchangeable then but it's irrelevant because that reference is centuries before the alleged date.
Thanks very much for doing this research. It's good to be forearmed against lies like this. You showed a picture of Peter Joseph on the Young Turks. Was he pushing the Jesus / Attis parallel?
To answer my own question about Peter Joseph, I watched his Zeitgeist movie just now. I hadn't paid much attention to him before. I thought he was just another technocratic socialist. I still think that's true, but I didn't know about his anti-Christian dimension before. The movie was pretty interesting. It contained a lot of truth. It points out that there are technocratic elites behind the scenes that run the world purely for their own purposes. I think that's true. Peter Joseph's solution to the problem however is to ... institute another technocratic elite that will run the world. But this time I guess these people will be benevolent, and they will use the power of scientism for the greater good. Is Peter Joseph a tragic useful idiot, or is he a cynic? Is he being paid to sing the song of the elite?
Its funny because Jesus wasn't born on December 25th athiests! Jesus didn't look like that that's not Jesus, Jesus was a brown an Israelite not a white Italian man
the 1st depiction(deception).....is Christ Pantokrator, Hagia Sophia...573AD+. but there is numerous statues of Attis,Cybele and Hermaphrodites. (Hermes +Aphrodite). 7 churches of Revelation?..= The Greek Temples of Philadelphia....the GALLI.

@@chippedtooth6296 so you did! But no! As anyone with a basic knowledge of cosmology is aware, the sun formed the same way as other stars. From a disc of collapsing gas bought together by gravity. When enough matter is concentrated and the pressure at its centre become big enough, the star ignites. Not as with combustion, but as nuclear fusion.
Of course we can't truly know anything about the past but we can make inferences from what we can see throughout the milky-way. The pillars of formation for instance are vast dust and gas clouds where we see many stars at different stages of formation. So we have adequate explanation of where stars come from and how they form. You could then argue where does matter come from and we can talk about the evidence for the big bang, all the way back to the singularity. Then we can talk about where the singularity came from at which point we reach the limits of human understanding.
According to Wikipedia Attis was resurrected. I also found this text “In the case of Attis, we possess a significant account of his death and mourning in the writings of the Greek historian of the first century BCE, Diodorus Siculus (3.58.7), including the evidently annual ritual creation of his image by priests, indicative of his resurrection. Hence, these noteworthy aspects of the Attis myth are clearly pre-Christian.”

Sources we have for the existence of Jesus: Suetonius, Tacitus, Celsus, Thallus, Phlegon, Mara bar Serapion, Lucian of Samosata, The Talmud, The James Ossuary, Josephus and Pliny.
If you want to prove the deaths of the apostles, we have Antiquities of the Jews, which records the death of James, the brother of Jesus who we know did not believe until he saw the risen Jesus. We also have the apostles being heavily persecuted, like Stephen, Paul and Peter. Keep in mind the 5,843 manuscripts that make the New Testament our most reliable ancient document
you only need to mention 1 Corinthians as evidence and end it there. If he asks for more or says that it doesn't count, tell him that his claim is false and end it there. You literally don't need anything else
InspiringPhilosophy thank you for you're videos and I love your work. But what exactly do you mean? I thought Adam and Eve had free will, so I thought it was possible. I am just curious since there are quite a few theories on what would of happened if such occurred. I think it is interesting to think about since the general consensus is that one of the descendants would defy God, or how atheists view as seen in parodies. < I know there are more thoughts on this, and it is a touchy and sort of complex topic... but it is very intriguing to say the least. But if you don't see it as relevant or really have much of a strong opinion on it (I don't either), I completely understand.
They had free will, but I do not think it was possible for them to never sin, mainly because they had free will and would not be forced to always do the right thing.

You are absolutely wrong. This Attis was applied to Jesus. Jesus must have not said this is my flesh, and the my blood with bread and vine, this concept was taken from Attis. Because in old testament eating blood is sin. So you are wrong that this was not applied to Jesus.

The question I have is this: Is it more or less HONEST to analyze the footnotes of the argument you are critiquing? Before you answer, please Google the top 10 careers of a Psychopath, #8 is Clergy. Psychopaths see themselves as ABOVE THE LAW, so they would argue they don't need to show the footnotes supporting the Zeitgeist Argument. What fairytales copying other fairytales. Oh wouw never seen that before. You might need to ask Zoroastrians who they feel with Christianity, Judaism and Islam? Oh aust that might be a nasty topic.
What a shame that we didn't have a empire that had Zoroastrianism as its main religion. Well.. we have one. The Achaemenid Empire the empire that build the second tempel for the jews. With there capital Babylon and there 2 main religions Zoroastrianism and Babylonian religion. Those guys who were one of the biggest empires 550 BC - 330 BC. Kind of weird that the jews never know them when they had one of the biggest religious influence and having bin emancipation in Babylon. If they can debate if it had a big influenced on the jews but one thing is for sure it made Christianity and Islam. With there devil, hel and heaven (after death) and more. The that is why I said. "What fairytales copying other fairytales. Oh wouw never seen that before." Kind of weird that that the religion that is much more exiled then the Christians had take all that your stories. When after the Alexander conquest it because much more Greek. So the Zoroastrians influence declined. Then Islam did its killings it is a obscure little religion that can't expand. Because you have to marry with people of the same religion and you can't become a member if you say I am a Zoroastrian now. In that time they didn't really have contact because the Christians where in europa and Zoroastrians in Asia.

I've said this before on someone else's page but I'll say it again here: Jesus mythicism is the atheist equivalent of Young Earth Creationism.
Could you do a video on the conflict, or incompatibility, between omniscience and omnipotence versus free will?
utopiabuster 2017 just because you know what the best thing is, doesn't mean you do it. Perhaps Gods thoughts are instantaneous simply because he lives in the universal instant. I wonder if that clears things up for you
Probably in 2018 that video will be made.
God Bless.
InspiringPhilosophy,
By the way IP, I support your ministry 100% and I know it doesn't have to be said but my current financial situation i, unfortunately, have to be frugal with my money.
Please show me proof where jesus is born on dec. 25
(My approach has been greatest utilitarian good without violating the categorical imperative while also being personal so it can objectively ought to be a certain way-ought implies can, but I admit this last part definitely has problems)

Please make the comparison between Buddha and Jesus (ās),because in Germany (living in Berlin) this is the Atheist Main Argument.

Similar enough. He was slain salvation for mankind

the sun is man made?
@@chippedtooth6296 Hydrogen & helium for the most part....
@@rubberlegs15 i said is the sun man made?

I have a request. Could you do a video on what would've happened if Adam and Eve obeyed God?
Then one of their descendants would inevitably disobey God because of free will.
I don't know if it was possible.
