Governments shouldn't run any business or have any monopoly...
Yeah we should take that revenue funding public services and give it to private corporations instead.
@@kzone272 -- revenue from booze sales wheather sold by the lcbo or the wine rack still goes to govt coffers.
@@kzone272 the revenue will still be there and probably increase if Gov leave other companies participate in the business, pay their share of royalties/tax instead of monopolizing it.
Drunkards and drug addicts being leader politicians and ministers idiots running canada . Ontario premier you should sort out gouging prices of groceries at loblaws zehrs .
You thief in pockets of grocery chain
@@kzone272why is that stupid premier of ontario concerned about booze . He should be targeting lob laws zehrs for gauging groceries food items prices every day .
I'm absolutely SICK and TIRED of paying WAYYYYY too much for beer and alcohol. It's time to BREAK UP this ridiculous MONOPOLY (LCBO/Beer Store) and give Ontarions better pricing. Im NOT against anyone making better wages or having job security or benefits, not at all. I dont feel like I should have to pay $50 for a case of beer, or $63 for a jug of Crown Royal!!!!
You sound like an alcoholic
Most of the cost is government taxes.
You do realize it's going to cost millions to break the contract?
Corporations will take over and everything will be all smiles and sunshine lol🤦
Conservatives have already given wine and beer to the Big Box Corporations and in case you did not know the Beer Store is not owned by Canadians. You should also realize that the taxes (price) you pay on your booze pays for Health Care, roads and brings in billions for the government. If you do not like it stop drinking, there are options you know to whining.
We don't need the LCBO to get alcohol.
LCBO strike is really hilarious. The only thing they will achieve is that it will drive customers to other retailers for buying alcohol drinks, and get used it. They are doing favors of other retailers for more sales.
And put restaurant’s and bars into bankruptcy
@@berniejackson5149 the blood is on the LCBO's hands, and the restaurants can go to breweries, distilleries, wineries etc if they need alcohol.
@@LMGuelphdon't most bar owners use breweries and other main sources more than LCBO already? ( Given I don't know how restaurants operate their stock ).

@@derek8564 - Yeah, but that profit goes to private hands, not roads, hospitals, schools. You remember school?
Overpaid retail workers at lcbo wouldn't stand a chance at any other store
Overpaid? Most of those workers are parttime workers with no benefits.
You should see the warehouse workers.
@@jamesagostino6816 We're not talking about part time workers, we are talking about full time LCBO employees. That's the only job that's close to government cushy jobs with few work, lots of pay and benefits.
I wouldn't say overpaid. Remember the days when someone could work full time at a retail or grocery store and make a living wage? Pay a mortgage, pay bills. It was considered a career. There is no hope of that now.
@@jamesagostino6816 So they make less than Walmart or Loblaws employees make?
We don’t need the lcbo
Indeed, it's a anachronism.
Hope you like paying more taxes then. Lcbo profits go directly back into funding the province including healthcare, roads, police. Hope you love paying taxes.
@@ryanproulx4631 Private retailers pay taxes too. And alcohol sales are taxed everywhere.
@ryanproulx4631 where are the taxes going that you pay outside of the LCBO?? Your municipal taxes pay for this as well. Where do the business taxes go that municipals take? The LCBO doesn't account for municipal taxes, only the provincial ones; which take care of a lot. Misused but they account for a lot
@@ryanproulx4631 you look like a literal soyjack

Why is the government still running liquor and beer stores in Ontario? That does not seem to be an appropriate function for a government.
LCBO makes money. Pays for a lot of other stuff that we benefit from.
@@randolfo1265nope, you're mistaken. The LCBO does not make profit. The Ontario government makes money from the LCBO from all the taxes and licenses. Whether it's sold at the LCBO or anywhere else, the government gets their money.

So... the gov offered raises, increased access to benefits, and agreed to bring on more workers full time, and the union still says no because they want to sell coolers in stores?
If opseu gets everything they want, either prices go up again, they contribute less net taxes, or both. You can't increase the overhead by this much and not end up in one of those situations.
This monopoly is ridiculous !
The unions at lcbo messed up. Ontarians deserve options and best pricing with how expensive things are. To get gouged by lcbo and now employees of lcbo to make things more expensive for final consumer is a joke. Lcbo should enter distribution model like amazon / same day delivery, close stores, and pass the savings (rent, less theft, less wages, utilities) to consumers.
Yup. The whole thing is a farce. Striking to maintain a monopoly!?
LCBO doesn't determine the price of alcoholic-products lol, distributors do
@@dbmuir8683lol wrong
@dbmuir8683 The lcbo makes a profit margin of 34% which goes straight to funding other Ontario spending needs. The LCBO sets selling prices to Ontario consumers. The profit of $2.4B is largely from mark-ups on final selling prices to consumers.
These employees should remember their skills are not valuable, this is an entry level customer service job where you stock shelves with bottles. Like the kids do at food basics or any other entry level job.
@@dbmuir8683 they do
It’s absurd how expensive LCBO has become.
I for one wouldn't mind seeing whiskey and other spirits sold at Walmart, Loblaws, Food Basics or other grocery stores.
Why? How is it not easy enough to buy booze as it is already? And why should private corporations have more profit than they already do?
So you prefer Walmart to profit rather then the Canadian government?
It won't be spirits. It will be pre-mixed drinks and cocktails. They're on strike over coolers.
@@shanedouglas2952 you do realize that I mentioned more than one retailer right, or do you have a comprehension problem or selective reasoning based off your own personal biases?
@@UzumakiNaruto_ booze being readily available is the least of your problems bud, and I personally don't care who sells it, private or public as long as we get selection of all varieties and accessable to any store who is willing to sell it safely.
Shouldn't our leaders be focused on reducing substance use and abuse, instead of promoting it?
With alcohol related healthcare and policing costs in the billions of dollars, and Impaired Driving at its highest levels in a decade, shouldn't government be focused on saving taxpayer dollars, and reducing crime and the toll it takes on families?
This is SHAMEFULL through and through.
I for one will really enjoy running to the corner store by my house to buy a case of beer before a bbq instead of driving into a busy strip mall. This is over due. Don’t make it something it isn’t

The difference between a teacher and the LCBO are that teachers are considered essential and have more leverage. LCBO not so much but I get your point.
I favour expanding into grocery stores but not convenience stores. I just don't think it can be properly supervised there and it's too many locations for inspectors to cover.
