    I'm absolutely SICK and TIRED of paying WAYYYYY too much for beer and alcohol. It's time to BREAK UP this ridiculous MONOPOLY (LCBO/Beer Store) and give Ontarions better pricing. Im NOT against anyone making better wages or having job security or benefits, not at all. I dont feel like I should have to pay $50 for a case of beer, or $63 for a jug of Crown Royal!!!!

      Conservatives have already given wine and beer to the Big Box Corporations and in case you did not know the Beer Store is not owned by Canadians. You should also realize that the taxes (price) you pay on your booze pays for Health Care, roads and brings in billions for the government. If you do not like it stop drinking, there are options you know to whining.

    LCBO strike is really hilarious. The only thing they will achieve is that it will drive customers to other retailers for buying alcohol drinks, and get used it. They are doing favors of other retailers for more sales.

      It’s whoever greases Ford’s hands get priority. Lots of money to be made by private companies from breaking up the lcbo exclusivity. Ford already got his mega cottage, those don’t come cheap.

The LCBO doesn't account for municipal taxes, only the provincial ones; which take care of a lot. Misused but they account for a lot

    I worked at the LCBO and the biggest seller was always the mixed drinks. At least our location.

    So... the gov offered raises, increased access to benefits, and agreed to bring on more workers full time, and the union still says no because they want to sell coolers in stores?
    If opseu gets everything they want, either prices go up again, they contribute less net taxes, or both. You can't increase the overhead by this much and not end up in one of those situations.

    The unions at lcbo messed up. Ontarians deserve options and best pricing with how expensive things are. To get gouged by lcbo and now employees of lcbo to make things more expensive for final consumer is a joke. Lcbo should enter distribution model like amazon / same day delivery, close stores, and pass the savings (rent, less theft, less wages, utilities) to consumers.

      @dbmuir8683 The lcbo makes a profit margin of 34% which goes straight to funding other Ontario spending needs. The LCBO sets selling prices to Ontario consumers. The profit of $2.4B is largely from mark-ups on final selling prices to consumers.
      These employees should remember their skills are not valuable, this is an entry level customer service job where you stock shelves with bottles. Like the kids do at food basics or any other entry level job.

    Shouldn't our leaders be focused on reducing substance use and abuse, instead of promoting it?
    With alcohol related healthcare and policing costs in the billions of dollars, and Impaired Driving at its highest levels in a decade, shouldn't government be focused on saving taxpayer dollars, and reducing crime and the toll it takes on families?
    This is SHAMEFULL through and through.

    I favour expanding into grocery stores but not convenience stores. I just don't think it can be properly supervised there and it's too many locations for inspectors to cover.

      There’s jobs out there , the trades need workers .., but no one wants to work like that anymore
      Groceries … you have to go and look at oil companies and food production corporations for that . They set the marketplace , grocery stores merely sell the product that they have to buy at a high price to begin with , they in turn need profit too , just how it works .
      Grocery stores didn’t decide to shrink portions and increase price . The problem in so much larger than that lol

Things that actually make a difference in peoples quality of life. Wether or not I can buy my liquor at lcbo or a corner store doesn’t effect the quality of my life. But yet here we are.

      @@peterjanjanin9883 -- and yet it's a healthcare model that works tremendously well in switzerland, germany and all scandinavian countries. all of which have better healthcare on all metrics including outcomes and accessibility for the poor with almost no wait times and no long waits for crucial tests. privitization is not an enemy. lifelabs is privatized in ontario.... your doctor is privatized. anything run by govt will not ever be as effective as the private sector.
