    So lucky to have so many choices in reasonable priced humidors these days. Wasn't that long ago that the least expensive 50 cigar beginner's humidor cost over $300.

    I'm a big fan of Oliva V sticks. As the moniker suggests, much more of a pipe guy myself though. A big part of it is because in Vegas it's so dry that keeping a humidor is a real chore. Constantly rehydrating beads/boveda packs. With the pipe blends just don't open the tin or throw it in a mason jar and it's good for decades, no maintenance.

    Another good alternative is travel humidors from Xikar for example.

    How do you feel about using a humidor bag as your main method of storing cigars? This is for someone who isnt for the market for a humidor just yet, but smokes a few times a year.

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  7 лет назад +1

      tiggersrevenge it works just as good if not better. Just make sure you store the bag out of the sunlight and you're good to go. Definitely recommend the boveda bags and packs. One pack will last you about 6 months.

    • @tiggersrevenge
      @tiggersrevenge 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the response. So replace the packs every 6 months, and what about the bag itself? Will that need any sort of replacement?

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  7 лет назад +1

      tiggersrevenge depending on your climate yes. You'll feel the pack when it starts to dry out. As for the bag, as long as you're gentle with it I wouldn't worry too much.

    • @tiggersrevenge

      Thanks for the quick replies. Im gonna invest in a bag, and then get the acrylic humidor after I've upgraded my cigar collection.

    I don't know why I never took water pillow and now Boveda ziploc storage whenever I go see Mom for Christmas. Last time I went the 1st day there to Tinderbox in downtown 🌴 Palm Springs. What I bought went dry the 4 or 5 day's I eas there. They have what I need there too. I'll buy before going there this year. The ziploc takes up less space than a herfador. 💖✌😎

    Might be a stupid question but I'm new to collecting cigars. Are cigars to be stored in the cellophane wrap they come in or should I remove the wrap before storing in my desktop humidor? I've talked to two cigar "experts" at my local stores and one has said to keep it in the cellophane, because the cellophane wrap will still allow adequate moisture in and help prevent molding or drying out if something happens to your humidifier. The other has said to remove the cellophane as soon as you place it into the humidor, but can't really justify why one should do that. Help please.

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  8 лет назад +1

      I've spoken with many cigar company owners and they all say you don't need it but a little extra protection doesn't hurt. So it's really a choice but we leave the cellophane on.

    • @jaimezana3895
      @jaimezana3895 8 лет назад

      +Gent's Lounge thanks!

    • @revjunior
      @revjunior 8 лет назад +1

      Another thing to consider is if you have flavored cigars, you should definitely keep the cellophane on them to help prevent those flavors from being passed on to your non-flavored cigars.

    • @artmccomeskey738
      @artmccomeskey738 7 лет назад +5

      u can get the best of both worlds by snipping the end of the cello off at the foot of the cigar with a pair of scissors ......this allows more humidity to flow into the cigar while also giving ur cigars protection from damage and keeping flavors from intermingling

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  Год назад +1

      I’d still keep them in a Tupperware with a Boveda pack or put the whole box in the humidor if you have room.

  • @silvereagle2061
    @silvereagle2061 6 лет назад

    I would love to use the packets but I'm on a budget. My current issue is that I'm having to "season" my humidor just about every week and I'm using those beads in jars (2) and a distilled water absorber and still having trouble keeping the humidity above 60. I still feel like I'm doing something wrong.

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  6 лет назад

      The seal on your humidor may not be that good. I would try storing the beads in a plastic bag with your cigars and humidity meter and take a reading there to see if it's your humidor or maybe even your meter.

    • @silvereagle2061
      @silvereagle2061 6 лет назад

      I have a very similar humidor you demonstrated in this video brass hinges and all, except my lid has a glass top. I have both an analog and digital meter. I have both a foam humidifier and two jars of beads. I'm thinking I never really did the seasoning and leaving for a few days for the cedar to take in the distilled water. If I went ahead and did that, where can I store all my sticks in the meantime?

    Why not just use a food container like the IKEA 365+? It's a lot sheaper then the acrylic humidor, and protects bether then the bag, and it's air thigt so a boveda pillow can last for a year and longer.

    what do you guys work for boveda or something? Boveda packs are an outstanding product. But you're telling people just getting started in an expensive hobby to go out and spend their money on Ziploc bags

    • @gentslounge

      Bags that are less expensive than a full on humidor.

    • @danb5128
      @danb5128 7 лет назад +1

      Haha you're adorable. The point of this comment is that boveda bags are no different then 10cent Ziploc freezer bags. And telling people to buy them, is telling people to way over pay for plastic bags just because they say boveda on them. what you should do if you fall in that price range is go out and get a whole box of freezer bags and 1 boveda pack, and you got yourself a humidor for a couple dollars. instead of way over paying for a Ziploc bag that says boveda on it. try reading the comment before you go off next time. I'm all about the budget.

    • @AnonymousOtters
      @AnonymousOtters 7 лет назад

      Sorry to burst your bubble D Man B, but the Boveda bags are just as good of value as Ziploc. That is because they INCLUDE a Boveda pack with them. For the price, they are equivalent to buying the parts seperately, they just did the work for you. So, whatever floats your boat, but they aren't really ripping you off. If you plan on making 50 of these at a time or plan to use all the extra ziplocs you had to buy in bulk, then maybe you can justify the DIY, but the point is pretty mute.

    • @danb5128
      @danb5128 7 лет назад

      Ian L, i appreciate your point. but a decent size boveda bag is 14$. where as a gallon ziploc bag is pennies and a boveda pack is 4$. which will keep over 25 cigars at optimal humidity. To each his own. i would rather spend the 10$ on some cigars to get me started as a beginner though. the hobby is already expensive enough. If you only wanted to keep a couple cigars, then yeah you could get a minature boveda bag for like 6-7 bucks before shipping

    Those Boveda (And any) acrylic cases are really not humidors and not meant for long term storage. They are designed to display cigars for the short term.

    • @gentslounge
      @gentslounge  4 года назад +1

      Genuinely curious. Any info to back that up? I was told that traditional humidors were made of cedar to keep bugs out and for their humidity regulating qualities. But with the acrylic humidor and the boveda packs you are able to use much less because they seal air tight.

    • @bigd2829
      @bigd2829 Год назад

      @@gentslounge yep you’re right. Acrylic is a great option for those who live more north where it is much drier. I personally have an acrylic because it holds its humidity very well.
