Just an FYI, James Holmes wasn't inspired by the Joker. He chose to shoot up a showing of a Batman movie, but only because he knew there would be a large audience there. Supposedly a cop noted his dyed hair (orange, not green it should be noted) and speculated if he was inspired by the character but Holmes said he wasn't. That prison is about to make Luis Romero's family ricn. Sticking an inmate who is about to be released with an insane, remorseless butcher who's never had a cellmate is completely incompetent (or corrupt).

Things go on in prison that you cannot imagine. Romero was tortured to death with a "small razor"; are you telling me that he did not scream with pain or yell for help? Think about it... actually, probably better if you don't.
I've been incarcerated in 3 different states through the years. I came up in the streets doin whatever it took to survive, I was active for most of my life, I'm an addict who has several years sober, I'm also a single parent, work, got my own place, have no debt, have a long-term partner, and I am a human being. I am no longer the person I was in many ways and in others I am but better off for it. People change. Most killers only kill once and regret that they ever did. It's tragic that the life lost can't be brought back but throwing another away doesn't change that fact, he didn't deserve that. Nobody does. The Ocuna's of the world are few and far between, most prisoners are just regular people that made a mistake, were just tryna survive, have serious mental health problems that have never been addressed, and/or are addicts who've never received treatment. But the antisocial personalities within the system are the cause of a disproportionate amount of violence, suffering, and turmoil. They cannot be treated for the most part and shouldn't be with the regular population. But nobody cares and billions are made by caging humans for increasingly petty offenses with increasingly ridiculous sentences.
Romero shouldn’t had been placed in the same cell with the very scary Osuna knowing the history and psychiatric diagnosis of the latter which was part of your explanations at the end of your video... You are an excellent narrator with a soft tone of voice soothing to the ears! Good job!

I'm glad you mentioned that people don't see inmates as human. I work in the same building as the local jail and while to a much lesser extent, it's well known that jailers treat the inmates pretty poorly. Like they follow all the rules they're supposed to but can be awfully demeaning and unsympathetic towards them. Of course, this angers the inmates and there's bickering constantly. We have a couple of jailers who treat inmates very well and to the amazement of the other jailers, the inmates respond to them a lot better. You wouldn't think that treating someone with dignity would be a difficult concept to grasp but man, it's like rocket science in the jail.
Thank you for another thorough analysis. Thank you for pointing out how society does not see prisoners as human beings and how this filters into the prison system itself. Those of us who try to work with incarcerated people who are genuinely suffering from an A is1 illness end up being punished as well by extension. People talk about prison reform but they don’t really care about what happens to those of us trying our best inside the system and never knowing if we will come out alive. This case hit me hard because this was my work world for a long time.

What's really scary is that he was alive and didn't fight back when osuna cut his fingers and ribs and liver and then his eye and mouth with that little makeshift razor. The victim was in extreme pain until his head was cut off. It's not something that can happen in 5 minutes. Romero could have lived if a guard had opened the sheat.
I guess ,in some prisons, being a sadist can help to get you that dream job. Not speaking in general but come on some guards are as bad as the criminals in there. 🤨

The arm grabbing hurt a little and I said I wasn’t interested (and my intuition was on high danger alert) and I felt a bit intimidated by just being grabbed so harshly like that, so I sat down with my mates and wouldn’t engage with him. I agree. I don't believe we will ever understand how someone becomes such a person as this. I do know this--he does not have to entertain his sadistic compulsion. God can save even this man. I have no doubt. No one is beyond the power of God. But, it takes the Holy Spirit to penetrate our outer being. Some people, God gives over to themselves. He doesn't make them as they are. He allows them to do as they wish. He simply doesn't intervene.

The media still ran with it because of course they did. This led to the manufactured panic prior to the release of Pheonix's Joker.

Terrible. Nobody deserves that.

Loved that chuckle at the end, Dr.
I am struggling with the gf/wife’s thinking……I was grabbed by the arm for a dance, at 18 (in a disco- U.K. 80’s Scotland) by a very strong and ok looking fella. The arm grabbing hurt a little and I said I wasn’t interested (and my intuition was on high danger alert) and I felt a bit intimidated by just being grabbed so harshly like that, so I sat down with my mates and wouldn’t engage with him. He didn’t bother me after that, but was still about so I made sure I was with my mates when leaving and got a taxi (another story there). Turns out he went on, that same year and the next to abduct and kill (strangle) two women of similar ages to me!
