I'm a 46 year old Black Man this year 2015 but I'll never forget the concert he done in Red Rocks Colorado back in the 1980's when I was just a teen. Even as a kid in the 1970's his music was in heavy rotation on the radio. The man made music that made this world seem like a better place then it actually is...... I hate what's happening to him..... All that he's built over his life is being taken away from him..... So I'm raising my Glass of wine. A Toast to one of the Greatest to ever grace music and made it as sweet as a sunny day in July...... I miss you already my friend..... God Bless You Mr. Campbell. And God Bless America......

Rest in Peace Glen Campbell...... Glen Campbell is one of a handful of mortals who will be remembered kindly, generously by history as having made the world a better place with an incredible voice and a prodigious musical talent, the likes of which are in very, very short supply these days. Thankfully we have his recordings, and we have documentary evidence -- including here on RUclips -- of the positive impact this man made in the world, the happiness that he spread with his effortless music making. I have listened to his songs most of my adult life. I never grow tired of them. I can certainly say the same about the music of JS Bach, WA Mozart, and Burt Bacharach and the performances of Ella Fitzgerald. But not many more. I bow to you Mr. Campbell, in the deepest respect.

My heart goes out to Glen and his family. I hope they find a cure for this horrible disease. I can't listen to "I'm Not Goin' to Miss You" without shedding a tear and having all the hair on my body stand on end!! Such a moving heartfelt song. It was a travesty that he didn't win the Academy Award. I have always liked him and I'm not a big Country music fan - but his songs were always just wonderful. My favorite is "By the Time I Get to Phoenix". Just beautiful. God Bless you Glen and everyone in your family. Love sent your way from me....

My dad, rest his soul, had Alzheimers. I wasn't around for his last years. The last time I saw him, he didn't know who I was and it was probably the hardest thing I've ever experienced. My sympathies go out to the Campbell family. They also go out to Glen himself. A doctor who specializes in Alzheimers once told me that for the sufferer it's something like this: You're in a dark closet, every once in a while, someone opens the door and you can see everyone, and just as you begin to acknowledge who they are, the door slams shut. As the disease progresses, the door opens less and less. It has to be a very scary ride....I pray that there's a cure someday soon....

hirdy6 Thank you....it's an awful disease. I don't wish it on anyone...and the really sad thing is that there are no indications that you will have the disease unless you get tested....see if you have the gene....but who would want to know that? Again, thank you so much...means a lot...

Glen Campbell is one tough cookie. I'm not a country music fan, but have always liked Glen and am so sorry that this disease has taken his sensibilities away. I'm in my 60s and am finding that I have periods of total forgetfulness. I don't know the medical history on my father's side. I worry that I may be getting Alzheimer's. If so, then I hope I can be as strong as Glen. Bless his 'ole country soul!

dear friend: Read, exercise (walks in the woods, sing songs with the cd player or with u-tube) keep you mind engaged. My mom went from dementia to Alzheimers and, GOD, mercifully, took in her less than a year. NEVER, never forget there are millions of us that are sharing your concern - I will pray for you and please do the same for others. Write journals of your life - concerts, bad & good days, good dates, locked for being drunk. I'm 58 and I am doing these things now. Leave these behind for your friends and lovers and family etc. May God Bless you always.

Blade56762 , I worked as a maintenance tech. at a 193 bed nursing facility in Kansas City for several years and I saw the progression of Alzheimer's from the beginning until the person took their last breath. It's truly devastating. I think that people aren't aware as to how heartbreaking the progression of the disease is. I was a lowly maintenance man, but to a lot of the residents on Unit 1 ( the Alzheimer's unit), I was their son, brother, cousin, whoever they needed me to be. It's a part of my life that I will always cherish. God bless. And Godspeed Mr. Glen Campbell.

Glen Cambell best concert ever, by far. He was so kind to the audience, praised his band, we were in awe. He would move away from the mike for pictures, one lady did not know, so he told her, he moved away for a better shot. It was a small intimate concert, he said was his favorite. Most impressive man i have ever seen. So humble, yet knew every player details, songs, everything, massively entertaining. Yes i have been to a lot of concerts, Bee Gees, TRex, lots of Country, rock, his is super far the best ever.

Glen Campbell had a special place in our household. I loved the TV show, his music, & all the great songs! But for some reason my little daughter at age 4 would come into the den when I was doing housework etc., with her finger to her mouth & say "shhhh, Be quiet Glen Campbell is sleeping!" Don't know where she got it - she just did - ever so often! When I would ask her where he was she would point to the middle guest bedroom & again say "shhh" with her finger to her mouth. So needless to say Glen Campbell holds a special place in my heart! Bless you GC!

I was never a country music fan but growing up watching TV I always liked hearing Glen Campbell's songs.
I saw the documentary "I'll Be Me" and appreciated even more what a great artist and person Glen Campbell was. I was amazed what he went through and yet how he kept his spirit!
Thank you for the joy you have brought all of us Glen!!

A great singer/guitarist who made many fabulous recordings in his career. When he covered other singers hits on his albums they were top notch as well. Sad to see how his last years have been afflicted by a cruel disease. Such a shame.

When I'm encountering a stressful day for whatever reason, I listen to Mr. Campbell and everything just goes away. His voice soothes me like no other. He has had an amazing career that spans decades and, as David Hertzberg so eloquently described him, Glen is one of a handful of mortals who will be remembered as a musical genius who left the world a better place. Thanks to CBS for providing him a "farewell." It is incumbent on us now to keep remembering him when he can no longer remember himself.

My father loved the man's music. He is 85 now and i was there at the very moment my old man saw the headline of Glen's passing....i turned around a couple of minutes and the old man had tears streaming down his face...only the second time my old man had cried in front of me...the other was when my mother announced she had breast cancer...
WHAT DOES THAT SAY TO YOU!!!
    Glen Campbell RIP.

My heart goes out to Glen and Ashley and the family. I went through this with my dad, who was also a great guitarist and singer. Its really hard to stand by and watch someone who you love and respect slowly forget everything they knew. He would get his guitar out and try to play it but couldn't remember how and get so frustrated. The frustration finally got to him one day and he slammed the guitar against the front door and the doorknob knocked a hole in it. He died in 92. I brought the guitar home with me and still have it to this day. I call it his signature guitar. It was the last time he tried to play it or any other guitar for that matter.

First, God Bless Glen Campbell and his family. Second, I see a lot of people here stating that they had a family member with "just Dementia, then Alzheimer's." Respectfully, that's not correct. Alzheimer's IS Dementia, but not all Dementia is Alzheimer's. Now there can be mild dementia-like symptoms due to a primary condition like Parkinson's etc. and that is not a specific form of dementia, rather a complication of a primary disease. Pick's, Frontotemporal Dementia for instance are far more progressive forms of Dementia than is Alzheimer's, with a shorter lifespan, quicker demise, and strike people at a much younger age than Alzheimer's. My Dad was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia 5 years ago at age 60. By age 62, he was wearing diapers, being bathed and fed, barely recognized family, could no longer read, write or communicate. There is no such thing as "Just Dementia." If you have Alzheimer's, you have the most common form of it. And I pray for anyone with any form of Dementia. Worst disease imaginable.

My dad didn't have Alzheimer's, he had Parkinson's. But, the effect was the same. The person I knew, we all knew, was slowly taken from us. It is devastating. You deal with a new person everyday as the old one is removed. Campbell had a lifetime of making songs and leaving memories. His kids and fans will keep him alive, but the person we knew will be gone and you're left with the shell. If that sounds harsh, I am sorry. I saw my dad go from an amateur writer, clockmaker, vacation planner, yard enthusiast, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and be turned to mush. I am sorry Campbell's family will see that, but they have the resources to reach out for help. It is not a pleasant road, folks. When my dad passed in 2004, my tears were for relief, dad was out of that misery. Yes, I miss him, and my mom, but everyday I remember them in some way and they are still here.
