I'm a little bit of both if I'm being honest. I guess it really depends on a few things like area getting tattooed. The person who is doing the tattoo matters as well. I've gotten tattooed by my brother and he dug in the skin too deep so it was a bit uncomfortable. I tattooed myself after learning the basics a doing 3 years of tattoos on fake skin and I hardly felt a thing
Not gonna lie I'm a jacked dude but inner bicep and chest humbled me very quickly. Huge respect to anyone who just sits like a rock, the suffering makes these things more beautiful.
In my own small experiences, my knuckle tattoos were a blast (my first ones). I got told by friends that they would be the worst place to start for the pain alone, to be honest it was pretty cruisy. Though I am curious about my throat next
I got my throat (full neck sleeve), knuckles, hand, face, full arm sleeve, and full chest piece and my chest was the most painful piece I’ve gotten, throat wasn’t too bad and knuckles weren’t bad at all. You’ll be fine just remember its a much bigger area than your knuckles and the worst part is the awkward way you have to sit and stretch your neck makes it harder to breathe. The pain is manageable tho, adam’s apple is the worst spot and it wasn’t too bad cuz its a small area. Hope this helps you

Just got my first session done on my japanese sleeve n I hope to god the shading isnt as bad as the outline cause my artist said i did great but literally i was in my head the whole time repeating “there is no pain, there is no pain” just to get through it😂😂 Edit: its my first tat
