  • The German player Alexander Zverev asked for the fan to be removed from the stadium after he was heard singing the song Deutschland Über Alles.
The match was halted after Zverev complained to the umpire that the chanting was "unacceptable" and "unbelievable".
Tournament security staff were called to ask the gentleman to leave and he did so without protesting.

@@sanjushah3061 while the phrase goes back to a poem written in 1841, it was the first verse of the anthem from 1933-1945. It was banned for a while after 1945 and while it’s not forbidden today it’s not the anthem anymore. The point is, it’s not just an innocent phrase because it’s very much connected to the third reich now. Clearly this guy did not show his appreciation for the original poem or the Weimar Republic. My guess is he wanted to provoke.

Also, this was a quarter-final match he had little chance to win. He went in ranked 12th and losing here would translate to a 5th or 6th place finish. He had already greatly exceeded expectations. @@AnAnxiousFroggo It is in the Song which is used as the German Anthem.
And we used the full song up to around 1991, where we then changed it to only the last part of the full song.
So I get why people get confused.
But I still do not see any problem with that and why Zverev reacted that weirdly lol
And why he was so obsessed it beeing a "Hitler Phrase" is also damn weird
