I'm almost 80 and thanks to my parents, esp Mom, I was brought up on MUSIC like this. Truly the best. One really doesn't need words in all our music (but I'm for great lyrics, too).
What are our young people going to have as Love 💕 song’s to dance to? Oh ! I forgot. They don’t dance anymore.😢My husband has been gone for 20yrs.now and all I have to do is close my eye’s to this music and we’re dancing again. Beautiful memories. Beautiful music.♥️🎼🎶♥️🥀🙏🥀🥰
Funny reading the comments. I'm 34 years old and have zero rememberable of any of these old country songs but I will tell you what, this IS and FOREVER will be the best and most soulfull music ever and the pedal steel is the most emotionally expressive instrument alive and it should be cherished. That's coming from someone who merely knows his ears don't lie. And that's why now I'm learning pedal steel.
For those who love this music - we do not care whether you like it or not - your insignificant - we still love this music & appreciate Dave & John sharing it with us.
I'm with ya brother I'm 51 years old I grew up having the privilege of watching and listening to my grand father and my uncle lay music like this on the acoustic guitar and electric they were great I wish you tube was around back then I would have posted them
In my mind the pedal steel guitar is the most beautiful instrument in the world. I always wished I could play one or atleast a steel slider because my dream was to become a country music singer since I was a child but my dreams got robbed
Leon Payne wrote this song in 1949, maby to he wife, they were both blind 😊 a wonderful feeling in this song. It was the first song Elvis recorded for Sam P. The real go for this song was when gentleman Jim Reeves did it, it was like open a gate to heaven.
Like "identical" twins! They were made to play music together. One could watch them all day. Their talents can NOT be learned. It has to be innate from Heaven. Praise Jesus, and may He rest John Stannard's soul.
This is TRUE classic country music sounds. Ya notice that neither David or John dressed up to look like tough and rough cow punchers in shabby hand-me-down clothes, bandannas and tent size hats over dark rim glasses to get noticed, instead their musical instruments stood out above any and all types of clothing attire. Thanks guys for such REAL country music from 1949.
True but to be fair their aren't any "wranglers" in England. That kind of clothing you're referring to is work clothes for guys that wrangle cattle and fix fences!
I once had a manager who'd always tell me, "man you really play that outlaw vibe well!". I never said much in response to that. However one day he came to my camper trailer to take me to a gig and found me facedown on the floor in cut off jorts and boots with Blaze Foley playing out my computer. He got me cleaned up and on the way he said "Jesus Christ I really thought it was a stage act!". Needless to say I never made it big lol
This music is so peaceful and relaxing. I'm in my rocking chair, with eyes closed hearing to the words to the song in my mind, while our cat purrs softly on my lap. An oasis in this world of turmoil.
Sooooo true. Well said. This song, in particular, blesses my heart and soul. I absolutely HAVE TO HEAR IT every 2 or 3 days. The melody is played so perfectly in tune. It would be impossible to improve on how great they are at playing it! Total PERFECTION!!!!!!
If I shut my eyes real tight , I can see my dad steering my mum round the dance floor to this. I lost my dad to cancer 3 years ago. Beautiful beautiful job guys.
I remember my Mom & Dad would steal the Dance Floor away at Weddings 👰 🎩 all the time, lost mom to Alzheimer’s five days after my birthday in June 16,1992 age 67. Lost Dad to Congested Heart Failure January 4,2014 age 91. I’ll be 65 this June 11,2020. Oh well 😔
Both of my parents have passed but as a kid my parents would go to dances at the fire company social hall where they would dance to country music like this. They would also do square dancing as well. I miss those days.
The hairs on my arms just stand up every time I hear these two play together. When I get upset or something goes wrong in mylife just listening to this music makes me feel a lot better. Thank you.
Maureen Potter Hi. What would you dance to it? A foxtrot? I'm tryring to figure out the rhythm - would like to learn with the help of tutorials on RUclips.
Todays stuff ISN'T music. There's no rhyme nor rhythm no tune, either, just BUMP BUMP DE BUMP DA BUMP BUMP RISY RISHIE BUMP with a lot of cussing thrown in. I imagine it makes the devil happy. And ya CAN'T help but notice, it has to be deep bass and loud enough it shakes your dishes in the cabinets when they drive by! I thought there was a sound ordinance in place, but the police don't enforce it
How the hell can you have 360 people giving this a thumbs down. They mustn’t like country music and if so they have no right to vote. Keep up the great music.
Im an old man, married to my wife for 61 years, this song, plus bridge over troubled waters, save the last dance for me. These three plus others were REAL love songs, and beautiful. Wish that current writers could do this kind of work.
I've been to weddings where the couple's first dance is pathetic. No soul in the music. No kind of love and affection. Just rubbing up on each other. I feel sorry for them. What would they have in their old age.
Well Guys let me just say that was one of the best renditions of that song I have ever heard, I sing this song myself in a lot of Karaoke, and boy Would I love to of sang this to Your Music ,, Congrats from the Uk

I remember my Dad (+), he loved this kind of music. Love it too. Thanks for playing. Saved this for my future listening plasure. God bless u two for such talent.
They move through this so smooth and to my untrained ears, I've heard nothing more beautiful! It's a shame that John had to leave so soon! Dave Hartly is one of the best steel players!
As a young Mexican American boy I used to hear this music and be in awe of its clean and pure sound. I loved it then and 40 some years now still love this style music. As a novice base guitarist I love to play this style music.
Something you will never hear on todays “country” radio. That’s because this truly is country music. A pedal steel is a relic from the past totally absent from what currently passes for country music. Thank God for Willie’s Roadhouse on SirriusXM.
My Grandpa just got moved to new life yesterday. He has looked forward to being with the King. He used to listen to your songs all the time. The sounds of steel guitar filling the room are timeless
Outstanding musicianship! Great solid good ole country sound....the way country music should be played today. Thanks David and John for sharing your amazing talents I know my ears appreciate it.
+Lena Ryder He may be referring to the 41 (at the time) who gave this video a thumbs down. If that be the case I agree with him. Being a lover of country and steel guitar these two guys are perfection.
A truly great singer and so very , very popular in both USA and the UK. . Her funeral in England was famously huge and shut down the country, there, I believe .
I have played along with this video a hundred times I bet. I'm not the picker John was but it's a great song to play. I had the pleasure of working with a pedal steel picker for 8 years. This was his favorite song to play & it also became mine. You do such a great job David. Thank you for all your post. I enjoy them all. God Bless.
One of the greatest joys from David's videos (on his later recordings) is the incredible clear hi fidelity sound and video. Poor video and/or audio; destroys most of what these experts can do. And that is sad indeed. Thank you kind Sir David.
Now this is real music, it brings back a lot of Great memories of when I was growing up and hearing my Grandfather play Jim Reeves . It actually brings tears to my eyes to hear it played so beautifully like this , I'm sure my grandfather is in heavy listening to this with me right now and smiling, Jim Reeves was his favorite.
I recall playing real music with folks like you 50 years ago, The music we made back was the real thing and not done with a computer or a synthesizer. Sad to say it but young folks today just don't know what real music is. Thank you for preserving it for them.
I am so sorry to hear this news, he had a special touch on every song I hear him play. I think he must have been to David the same as Don Rich was to Buck Owens.
Two of the best musicians I have ever heard, Dave you are the pedal steel master in my eyes , r i p to John , I’m sure he is still playing up in heaven
yes. what a treasure they recorded their sessions together as much as they did. 2 masters of their craft & too bad John was gone too soon! what talent both of these men have for pure music.

Nashville can keep their "New" Country sound, the rest of us who appreciate real country music, can come here and listen to the way it's supposed to done. Every once in a long while, you can still find a band or two playing this old country style at Tootsies just around the corner from the old Ryman Auditorium.

The blind singer and songwriter Leon Payne wrote this fantastic Song in 1949, according to me, one of the finest songs ever written.
