I find it interesting that Roger Waters chose “Money” as the first cover to be released. It almost makes you think that he has other motives with these covers. 🤔
I love Pink Floyd. They played a huge part in shaping my musical taste as a teenager and David Gilmour is one of my biggest inspirations as far as guitarists. Roger Waters was (emphasis on was) a creative visionary behind some of my favorite albums of all time. It’s a shame he’s such an a**hole who lacks any self awareness whatsoever and has completely lost the plot such that his anti-war and anti-imperialist USA stance has led to him advocating for Ukraine to negotiate with Putin. At least I can separate the art from the artist and still enjoy his previous work while rolling my eyes at the ridiculous old man he’s become.
Agree with you 1000%. Can’t wait to hear him ‘sing’ Great Gig In The Sky 5 octaves lower than Clare Torry. To be honest I’m looking forward to seeing the utter car crash that he has put together. The whole thing is spitefully, petulantly, anti-Gilmour, anti-Floyd, anti-melody/music, anti-guitar and worst of all anti-audience. Waters’ contempt for the demands of the rock audience was always barely concealed beneath the surfac and he seems to have taken it on himself to give us what he thinks we SHOULD want instead of what we actually want, interesting and appealing melodies and harmonies. I hope Alan Parsons wades in at some point.

I do like that he decided to make it darker, which could be in order to explore the inherent darkness that lurks behind that initial lure of money and, like you said, those cellos are awesome. The big problem is that it's 7 minutes long and doesn't do enough to justify that runtime, for me. Plus the removal of guitars and sax in favor of nonsensical poetry.
Roger Waters has always been a bit of an asshole, despite his genius lyrics and album concepts. He was an important part of the band, but not the only part and you can tell because his solo stuff hasn't been nearly as good. Politically I find myself on his side half the time, but also think he gets things wrong a lot, which wouldn't be so bad if he had a little more humility about his position, but he doesn't have much if any humility. It seems like he's always so sure of himself, but he's not always right. I usually side with Gilmour over Waters on most things, but I have to admit, lately, on the political stuff, I've been siding with Waters more often.
LSD caught up with this old fool. No exceptions or excuses for someone his age. Roger was Great with Pink Floyd. I don't think he's done Anything as memorable as Gilmore and Co. He really needs to be slapped. I'll do it.
@@DrakusRecords I think Waters has had some bad moments, has a bit of an ego and is a control freak, has made some unfortunate remarks about his band mates, but how much of an asshole that makes him is hard to really measure without some proper inside information. @@DrakusRecordsdidn’t gilmour’s wife call him a nazi or some such thing on Twitter/X a while ago? i vaguely remember hearing something about that. i do recall people having a problem with the “fascist Pink” costume in his Wall performances too recently, saying it *promoted* fascism. which is kinda just funny… gen Z apparently doesn’t understand metaphors. 😂 …but this? this is crap. Roger might not be a nazi, but he is dick. and his is just him being a dick.
Im a huge Roger fan, supported him for decades. But even i can't excuse this. It's ridiculous. Make a new album, Rog. But please leave the old stuff alone.
The greatest musical achievements of Pink Floyd weren’t the result of Roger or David individually, but rather the combined musical talents of them both. And it's a damn shame that both of their egos and personal vendettas have all but ensured that neither of them will ever realize that.
Agreed with you 100%. I don't understand why people can't just leave these classics alone. Wings of pegasus channel also talks about record companies re-releasing Beatles/Queen classics with "modernisation" techniques. And now you have Freddie Mercury with an auto-tune. Just great!
1973: Plays “Money” for the audience everyone cheers* 2023: Plays “Money” (his newest version) for the audience *everyone boos* I can’t lie I saw him in 2022 during his THIS IS NOT A DRILL he acted like a total psychopath. What a waist of money. I wanted to see actual good stuff. Not “THE LOCKDOWN SESSIONS” SLOWED DOWN VERSION OF “THE BRAVERY OF BEING OUT OF RANGE” or “COMFORTABLY NUMB” WITHOUT A GUITAR SOLO💀🙄 You know Roger Waters is think you should just stop making music at this point and go frick yourself. It’s so sad, one of the best members of pink floyd and look at him now.😢 i wish i got a chance to see him in 1973 live. Anytime before he just straight up abondoned the best part of a pink floyd song. Even his solo stuff like “THE BRAVERY OF BEING OUT OF RANGE” or “THE POWERS THAT BE” in his 2022 TOUR i would have liked to see the original version versus “COMFORTABLY NUMB? WITHOUT A GUITAR SOLO. AT LEAST SOMEONE HAD THE NERVE TO POINT THIS OUT, THANK YOU SO MUCH BECOME THE KNIGHT. YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY.
Two things ERK Roger , the band making bigger money on his Original ' The Pink Floyd ' name . And him making a point 'the principal of it ' which is again about profits $$$ he deserves to get paid , not them . He is not Stalin , he is Jesus wrongly crucified. The Pink Floyd was a unit that ended after The Wall. Roger's been riding that one to smaller veneus while The Floyd continues playing Arena rock. This latest venture is a grown man sulking his thumb . Not thumbing his counterparts. 'Tear down the Wall' !
What bothers me the most is the selfish *Imma re-record the song to f over my former bandmates for revenue.* like dude. Get over yourself. You earned millions off the radioplay of that album and now 40 YEARS after the matter you're gonna do something spiteful and toxic like this. Let it go and move on. If this was just a live performance being like "I've done this song live for years I wanna try something different." Thats fine. This is not.
You need to rebrand your channel to Angry Music Review Nerd! This is my favorite album of all time, my parents used to play it for me so I'd fall asleep. I'm downright offended by this rendition and my dad is rolling over in his grave! 😭
Honestly, even acknowledging the lyrics are good and cleverly written. I hardly think there’s a fan of Dark side of the moon EXCLUSIVELY for the vague rants about money, time, breathing, madness. They were accompanied by some other M word: that thing when a band makes notes come out of intstruments………..MASSAGING A NARCISSISTS EGO no that’s not it. If I were Dave or Nick I wouldn’t even bother responding to this (unless he deletes everyone else’s credits from the album, because there were more than a few things he had absolutely nothing to do with…..like the music for Us and Them
The satirical delivery of the original vocals too is gone. I loved those lyrics when they sounded like someone hyping up being wealthy but showing its BS at the same time. Its just a monologue now... The solos, well its just as crinimal that the sax got ditched too. There needed to be something musical to counter the lyrics in my opinion. Maybe even a back and forth between vocal and a lead instrument I don't know God knows what's going to happen to On The Run, Great Gig and Any Colour...
When we view any form of art we have the liberty of taking from it what we feel like in fact we can’t really help, the artist has no choice but to except her/his view of thier art. It may not be what he wanted them to get out of it and most of the time it’s not, sorry artists 🤷 But the artist chose to put thier art out there it’s to the listener/observer to interpret it. They may not interpret it the way you want it. Yes, it’s YOUR art but it’s THEIR minds/hearts… You can not say “It’s MY art so you’re only allowed to interpret it MY way” (seems to be Roger’s attitude anyway) That’s just not how the world works. if you don’t want people to interpret it the “wrong way” then just don’t release it. Simple!
The fact that Waters thinks DSOTM needs to be re-done tells plenty about his mental status. He’s in misery. 1st, he has to think it’s not as good as it can be. It’s arguably the most popular music album ever recorded. To think it’s not good enough is the pinnacle of pretentiousness / narcissism. 2nd: to re-do it implies he thinks he can improve upon it. He’s as likely to improve on it as there is to be another first moon landing. It’s a done event in history. If he thinks he’s more creative in 2023 that he was in 1973, he needs to put out something new. We don’t need another DSOTM, we already have possibly the best rendition of that style of music if there were a million re-do’s. Of course, he can do as he wishes with the time he has left on earth, but after attempting to listen to the first release, “Money” the predictions of him making a mockery of the classic are on track to my ears….
First off, I respect that Roger is fully owning his cover version of the album, he is making it his own, that is what anybody should do when they do a cover. Do I like his cover of Money; no, I don’t, I find it to be overly slow, ponderous,, and most of all simply boring. Roger has always treated his fans like crap, he seems to believe that they are all significantly more stupid than he is, and couldn’t possibly understand what he was trying to communicate to us; this is truly the mark of someone who significantly overestimates their own value. The messages in Dark Side of the Moon are fairly universal, rather easy to understand, and have resonated with generations of people; that is why it is one of the best selling albums of all time; that is why fans and non-fans of Pink Floyd have loved it for as long as I have been alive. Dark Side is also demonstrably not entirely his creation. Yes, he wrote all the lyrics, but he certainly did not write all of the music/songs, he also did not do all of the arranging of the songs or the sequencing of the album. Without all of the other members you would not have Time, or Any Color; without Rick specifically, there would be no Great Gig, or Us and Them. I don’t take any thing away from Roger, and I respect his ability as a lyricist greatly, but I also find his treatment of the people that enjoy his music, the members of Pink Floyd, and Richard Wright especially to be completely reprehensible, and it has always colored my perception of him as an artist, and as a human being. My advice to Roger would be to go back and read the words he wrote for Echos and try to internalize and live by what he wrote back then.
Yeah, this remake cover is shit, I don't like it at all. You don't touch something that's perfect the way it was. Can't he create new stuff ? I don't find it interesting to remake old albums, mostly when it was already great. He ruins it just because he wants to act like he's the boss... Who cares about that apart of him ? Nobody I think... It's really disappointing.
Speaking of masters, more artists should do exactly this, however. They shouldn't cut out the other creative forces if it is a band/collaborative effort. Bad form on Roger Waters.

Since, apparently, Roger Waters is too self-obsessed to figure this out for himself, If you plan on clearing up any misunderstanding of what you said, don't wait 50 years to do it. That ship sailed a long time ago.
Its what ive always been saying to Roger Waters admirirers. Hes a poet with great vision, but hes not a musician, he doesnt get it. Without the band, hes pretty much shit. People understood what DSOTM was, thats why its one of the best albums of all time, because its relatable, its fun, its musical, its got so much swing in it it forces you to dance.

the dude is 79 ur expecting him to sing any higher? he isnt ruining anything he made it he owns it and its his music its better than a reissue its from a diffrent older perspective i like the jazz in a smoke filled club vibe with his word play its not a replacement of the original that's what u dont understand ur views on lyrics make me sad so you only care about the instruments i care more for words then anything and roger has some of the best lyrics of Pink Floyd David had non maybe a couple good songs after roger its not suppose to be as good as the OG you dont get it
I hate to sound philosophical or whatever, but he said hes doing it because people dont understand what he was trying to say. Roger, whatever you think you were trying to say, its 50 YEARS LATER. You cant just magically recapture that specific period in your life or the same emotions and feelings you had 50 years ago when you made the damn record and wrote all these thoughts and lyrics down.
the only good thing about this redux is the cellos. i have said it since i first listened to it when it came out. but , this track is just boring and dull and quite depressing. i have listened to it at least a dozen times, and i still havent finished it. cant stand his leonard cohen style vocals, cant stand the beatnik poetry, and cant stand the soft jazz. it is just pure rubbish
I heard this on the radio the other day and what stood out to me the most was that the vocals were so hard to hear (apart from obviously everything else you said, which I agree with)
Roger’s music has been going in this direction for decades. The sparse, plodding, dour, bleak soundscapes with more spoken than sung lyrics. You could hear the beginnings all the way back on The Final Cut. Amused to Death. Is This the Life We Really Want, and now this… drek. TFC and AtD were saved by the soaring solos of dynamic guitar players pulling the music from the pit Roger was wallowing in. iTtLWRW seemed to give up on guitars entirely, hell it damn near decided that it didn’t need any melodies at all, and it’s damn near unlistenable to my ear as a result. The remake of Comfortably Numb that he played on his last tour felt almost entirely musique concrète. More just sounds than music. Roger tells the story of how his hatred toward his audience during their ‘77 tour ultimately culminated in him spitting on a fan and fostering the creative impetus for The Wall. I don’t think that hatred of his audience has ever really left Roger.
Does Roger Waters plan on celebrating this re-recording by shitting on Rick Wright's grave as well? No wonder David Gilmour hates this man with such a passion. Holy shit those quotes.
For real what a douchebag, no wonder the wall is a never ending depicted cycle of rockstar egotism. ( I know it’s deeper then that but I see Rogers as the dude that never changes) Guys like this never change unfortunately.
I've had DSOTM in my collection since it's first release and what made it original and great has been removed, now it sounds like it was made by a deeply depressed person on the edge of life....very sad indeed.....and we all knew what the lyrics meant upon the first play
This video kinda reminds me of why I started watching your channel. Too many RUclipsrs try to be positive all the time, never critiquing anything and never saying anything as a result. I still remember watching one of your "worst metallica songs" videos -- hearing you say "ABSOLUTELY FUCKIN NOT!!" made me laugh so hard. Keep calling out the BS :D
Please. Pink Floyd. Was Sid. Gilmour stepped in and saved them. Then roger finally took over and the darkness ended it. I see it as 3 bands With the gilmour solo and waters solo as 2 other bands
This is the 2nd time, first being a remake for a collection album "A Collection Of Great Dance Songs". David Gilmour played all instruments due to issues with the rights to the song and it is faithful to the original. These vocals sound like a bad gangster movie. You nailed the reasons why I rather listen to Yes than Pink Floyd. Yes is more to the audience, open if you like. It is odd how men who should be grown up by now and have a cushion of money to lean on, are still arguing and are not able to leave it be. If you have too many friends, form a band with them. The album would not have existed without the band chemistry regardless what it happened to be. It must be a tough pill to swallow for Waters to realise that and tougher to fight the idea.
saw Yes back in 2001 or ‘02. the sounded just like i was listening to the albums. they even opened with Gates of Delirium. it was pretty sweet. the best part tho? it was in a nice theater with seats, and everyone sat down the whole time until the encore. you could just relax and listen to the music and actually enjoy the show…. instead of being smushed against a 100 other smelly people attempting, and failing, to dance. also, it was nicely air conditioned. the most pleasant concert i’ve ever been to.
I've heard a lot of DSOTM covers and could usually find something to hang with, but that version of Money is a big flaming pile. And Leonard Cohen called from Beyond the Grave and wants his Schtick back.
Roger Waters re-recording DSOTM is about on par of Hollywood remaking the film Friday the 13th, Part II. When I was in college, I actually took a Saturday morning class on the History of Rock & Roll. (Yes, that was an actual class). My professor said that the saddest thing with talent is when all these artists get old and tour, they actually become their own impersonator. This is so true when talking about Roger Waters.

The big problem is that it's 7 minutes long and doesn't do enough to justify that runtime, for me. Plus the removal of guitars and sax in favor of nonsensical poetry.
I'm a huge fan of Roger Waters, I've always defended everything that he has ever done.... This is the first time I can't defend him 🤐
Roger Waters has always been a bit of an asshole, despite his genius lyrics and album concepts.
@@DrakusRecordsWell said!
And being very vocal about your political beliefs is naturally going to make you enemies that are happy to jump at the chance to bad mouth you.
…but this? this is crap. Roger might not be a nazi, but he is dick. and his is just him being a dick.
Rogers ego has left the building, and the planet.
Im a huge Roger fan, supported him for decades.
But even i can't excuse this. It's ridiculous.
Make a new album, Rog. But please leave the old stuff alone.
What A Mess!! Roger Waters totally ruined Pink Floyd's "Money" with this lack luster remake.
Tfw you make a song more pretentious by removing most of the artistry
The greatest musical achievements of Pink Floyd weren’t the result of Roger or David individually, but rather the combined musical talents of them both.
And it's a damn shame that both of their egos and personal vendettas have all but ensured that neither of them will ever realize that.
Perfectly put
I just laughed so fuckin hard at the Jordan Peterson bit. Cringe indeed man.
Roger: "Monayyy"
Mike: *Pause* "We have Cellos!"
XD Why did this crack me up??
His new version is utterly horrific. Just a bitter old man still on an ego trip.
That was the sound of a nightmare. WTF Roger Waters?? I think he lost his last brain cell. Sad...
Literally this morning found this song and was waiting for this video
Love it mike
Agreed with you 100%. I don't understand why people can't just leave these classics alone. Wings of pegasus channel also talks about record companies re-releasing Beatles/Queen classics with "modernisation" techniques. And now you have Freddie Mercury with an auto-tune. Just great!
Not bad per se unless you ruin what was superb
He will end behind his wall and there won't be anybody out there to listen. So bad
Me and my extremely inflated ego are going to improve on a masterpiece. Brahahahaha.

1973: Plays “Money” for the audience everyone cheers*
2023: Plays “Money” (his newest version) for the audience *everyone boos*
I can’t lie I saw him in 2022 during his THIS IS NOT A DRILL he acted like a total psychopath.
Pain
First he removes the guitar solo from Comfortably Numb -> Now he takes the money out of Money
This makes Lulu sound like a masterpiece. 😂
Wow that was horrible 🤣 OG DSOTM will always be the ONLY DSOTM to me 🤷♂️
Honestly, even acknowledging the lyrics are good and cleverly written.
If I were Dave or Nick I wouldn’t even bother responding to this (unless he deletes everyone else’s credits from the album, because there were more than a few things he had absolutely nothing to do with…..like the music for Us and Them
It stinks more than......well it absolutely stinks to high heaven.
I dread to think what the rest of the album will sound like
Scarry
Time was much better, much more worth listening to but not great.
The voice he’s putting on sounds like he’s trying to make Money into a wannabe Disney villain song.
Maybe even a back and forth between vocal and a lead instrument I don't know
God knows what's going to happen to On The Run, Great Gig and Any Colour...
Simple!
A plodding cross between Leonard Cohen,Vincent Price, a dash of Viv Stanshall without the laughs and a lower-sixth form Tom Waits!
Pass!
We don’t need another DSOTM, we already have possibly the best
rendition of that style of music if there were a million re-do’s.
Stripped down versions of albums can be really good. (See: The Beatles - Let It Be-Naked Version). But this ain’t it.
Orginal album vivid and bright, an arrangement of talented musicians... latest effort by Roger... dull, lonely and flat.

Of course, he can do as he wishes with the time he has left on earth, but after attempting to listen to his first release, “Money” he has exposed his life is not going as he wanted. It’s actually quite sad to see someone who could be celebrating an accomplishment beyond the wildest dreams of most, to be attempting to improve it when he has to know in his heart and mind that it’s a fool’s errand.
People understood what DSOTM was, thats why its one of the best albums of all time, because its relatable, its fun, its musical, its got so much swing in it it forces you to dance.
t ome it felt like clint eastwoods character from gran torino sneared the lyrics to this while sitting on his porch, while also getting confused and going on some out there rant midway through. I was not impressed lol
To be fair, he wrote the song so he can do whatever he likes with it. Including ruining it.
Full circle of cringe. That's the exact way to describe this version of "Money".
the dude is 79 ur expecting him to sing any higher? he isnt ruining anything he made it he owns it and its his music its better than a reissue its from a diffrent older perspective i like the jazz in a smoke filled club vibe with his word play its not a replacement of the original that's what u dont understand ur views on lyrics make me sad so you only care about the instruments i care more for words then anything and roger has some of the best lyrics of Pink Floyd David had non maybe a couple good songs after roger its not suppose to be as good as the OG you dont get it
no need to insult Roger Waters. You may not like his new work. Bad behaviour by your side. "shit load" seems to be your favourite term.
You look older than roger!
Why Do Some People Look Older than their Age and Others Look Younger than they Really Are?
Rogers early Floyd was his daddy issues then to his daddy and war issues and now its just ROGER ISSUES.
Roger Waters rewriting "his" music to sound like Great Value Leonard Cohen is one of the worst musical ideas of all time.
the only good thing about this redux is the cellos. i have said it since i first listened to it when it came out. but , this track is just boring and dull and quite depressing. i have listened to it at least a dozen times, and i still havent finished it. cant stand his leonard cohen style vocals, cant stand the beatnik poetry, and cant stand the soft jazz. it is just pure rubbish
He should've just made a new original album. Is This The Life We Really Want, was a really good album
Worst re-recording of a song ever.
I heard this on the radio the other day and what stood out to me the most was that the vocals were so hard to hear (apart from obviously everything else you said, which I agree with)
You can get a preview of the new DSOTM by listening to The Pro's and Con's of hitching. Rogers break up album.🤮
Sorry, but that's not Roger Waters, that's Leonard Cohen!
At least if Cohen sang it, it would be nice :)
waters totally takes himself waaay to seriously and his arrogance comes through in his music the last 20 years.
As a lifelong Pink Floyd fan I have to say this is the worst thing any of the members have ever released.
Love your analyses. Agree totally. THANK YOU.
“Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?”

How it feels to drive on the highway.
This effect requires GPU acceleration keeps popping up.
All it needs now, to make it work, is David, Rick, Nick and Dick.
He needs to rename this The Dark Side Of Quaaludes.
I've had DSOTM in my collection since it's first release and what made it original and great has been removed, now it sounds like it was made by a deeply depressed person on the edge of life....very sad indeed.....and we all knew what the lyrics meant upon the first play
He had deeper and more relevant thoughts about life and death when he was 30, talent and age...
The dull side of the moon is gonna suck, thanks Roger.
It would never occur to Roger that he actually NEEDED the other guys from Pink Floyd.
Only future years will tell which one is the best version.
Please. Pink Floyd. Was Sid. Gilmour stepped in and saved them. Then roger finally took over and the darkness ended it. I see it as 3 bands With the gilmour solo and waters solo as 2 other bands
80s Leonard Cohen was the EXACT first thing that came to mind when i heard that voice 😂.
oh Roger…. tak tsk.😕
Thanks for speaking my mind, buddy!
Man that really sux compared to original wow
All the fun has been sapped out of this reinvention. Hate it.
Yeah this version of Money doesn't work for me.
I've heard a lot of DSOTM covers and could usually find something to hang with, but that version of Money is a big flaming pile. And Leonard Cohen called from Beyond the Grave and wants his Schtick back.
I heard that Leonard has filed a lawsuit against Roger over copyright issues.
Completely agree this is ultra bad
