While Bach surely influenced "Whiter Shade of Pale", it stands as it own work.
This combination was exquisite, and a joy to listen to.
I listened to Bach when I was a 8 years old boy. I got in touch with classical music from this day on.
J.S. Bach came directly from heaven and went back there after his earthly life. What a genius! And the two people here in this recording undertand very well, what he was trying to tell us.

When you would get to 6:41 you would hear the part of "Whiter Shade of Pale" we are familiar with. I love this whole piece; so touching and well performed.

No, I stopped. And skipped to the procol part. And then stopped too. Too much reverb. No Hammond. And you need two melodies : the voice and the Hammond.

If you start at enough 6:41, which is past the half point you will recognize the part that "Whiter Shade of Pale" we are familiar with. If you love great classic music, you will most likely listen to all of it. It is such a lovely and well performed work of art.

So many of the best popular songs have strong "classical" (including Baroque or Romantic) roots.
Look what Jon Lord did, he merged classical music with Progressive roots, that why I love Deep Purple so much.

I truly wonder what planet the people that gave this a thumb down are from. They can't have passion and feelings, they must be alien or mean spirited. Yes, people are certainly allowed their own opinions but for Christ's sake this is truly sent from God himself for the ages to enjoy. I have seen thumbs down for some of the most wonderful videos, for some of the most devine music, for the world's best players. Maybe it tells more about those who push on "thumb down" than about the videos themselves. And we have to face that while many of us fortunately still feel admiration and love, others - poor others - seem to feel frustration, even hate.

Procol harum acknowleged that it was inspired by bach's air
